Old school shooter. The artwork is brilliant but it's not a machine I would keep coming back to.

Well...figure this--I really didn't like big brother (sister?) Whoa Nellie, but I found this one fun to play. Guess it must be the theme, as this is a really nice looking pin and played well. I'm not a huge Primus fan, but if you are I'd pick this up in a minute. The more you play it the more it makes sense. Might even try WN again if I ever see another one...

I appreciate it for what it is, but... it isn't much. The price is for exclusivity, as the gameplay makes it a retro stinker.

Played this machine in depth today at Pinball Madness (will upload video on Youtube). At first play I was a bit dissappointed with the overall machine since its a modern Stern machine yet uses a vintage layout and small flippers, is low scoring and doesn't have modern lcd screens and animations. But I gave it a 2nd chance and the designers brilliance hit me! This game is a work of genius. And it is a game of true skill. Not bells and whistles or flashy presentations but pure skill. There were over a thousand machines all around me today but this one got the most amount of attention from me. I probably played for a good hour. I have never experienced a machine that made me do a complete 180 on what I thought of it so quickly.

Primus is a re-packaging of the Whoa Nellie design by Nordman/Freres that was originally based on the Gottlieb Continental Cafe game.

The Pros:
This game looks absolutely fabulous. This is a frivolous and fun pinball endeavor that will make players re-think about what older designs are really about. inside pinball jokes (and some blatant ones as well) are all over this table. This has to be the best cabinet design I have ever seen!

The Cons:
The gameplay novelty wears off quickly. I understand what collectors are looking for in a game like this and I'm glad I had the chance to play a game or three, but I would not want to spend the $$$ that this game demands for the amount of game I get out of it.

The Takeaway:
Find one if you can and play it. Understand that this design is a throwback and not a faster dmd/lcd game design. A great game for diehard Primus fan.

Rating will be high because of theme, art and music not the gameplay.

This game was pretty boring for me. Im not sure what the thrill is with making 60s style pins with today's hardware is (TNA and beatles too), but it needs to stop. The music and sounds were the best parts of it, but the gameplay wasn't interesting or much fun. For the price of these things, I would steer clear unless you really love primus, love older style pins, and enjoy overpaying for machines.
