Awesome game, absolute blast to play. Went in expecting to like ACDC better, but Metallica wins out for me...So much fun to play. Very satisfying ramp shots, great flow, lots to shoot at and great music to match the action.

Exceeded my expectations and a pin that is now on my list to buy.

The rules (Lyman) have turned this into a great game. I think the general playfield design is good but has some well documented, annoying aspects like the huge/vision blocking hammer, PITA snake rejects, and equally PITA captive ball failing to register. You can overlook these flaws though due to the outstanding art package, sparky, extremely satisfying metal ramps and creative rules. Sparky brings a ton of humor to the game but also makes the game pretty random. Unlike some other bash toys he's dangerous and unavoidable. Borg did the same thing with the TWD prison and Monger which subtracts some points in my opinion. I'll enjoy it for a year or two but it won't be a keeper. Mainly because it centers too much on Sparky Multiball as a way of getting to coffin Multiball and CIU modes where the real fun starts. I'm also not a real Metallica fan so it has no emotional appeal to me.

I see a lot of comments from others stating there is too much "bashing" on this machine. I see this as shooting targets. This seems to me as showing some skill that you can hit points on the machine when needed. The artwork on this game is unusual and killer - I like the fact that they didn't just throw the band all over the machine. Game plays well and flows well. I love the toys including frying Sparky. Im not a complete fan of the band but do like some of their older material and that is what they mainly put on the machine. The only downside I see is the music doesn't coincide with the play. I own the game and will keep for quite a while. Fun to play

I updated my rating b/c I rated the Pro version instead of the Premium. My bad...
"Good action, good music, good back glass, good game flow and a fair amount of toys make this a very enjoyable pinball to play. It's not the best in any particular category but it is well above average in all categories. I still like the ACDC a bit better but Metallic is an awesome machine by any measure."
In addition to the Pro the Premium has more toys, better lighting and is just more fun to play versus the already incredibly awesome Pro version.

The artwork is great on this machine. Some of the best IMO. I love the music but I cannot stand a lot of the callouts. Gemeplay reminds me a lot like Spiderman. While I really like SM, I don't want two of them. If you love the play of SM you will probably love this game. I just wouldn't own both but I prefer variety in my small lineup.

I ABSOLUTELY love this pin!! I've had a lot of good stern pinballs in my collection over the years (TSPP, LOTR, SM, IM, ACDC Prem, FGY, RBION, etc.) and although its still in the honeymoon phase this so far is my favorite! Its crazy fast like IM for example, but so much more to do than IM. There are a lot of very satisfying shots, especially the 2 metal ramps. It just feels VERY well built, compared to a cheap POS like the Avengers for example. The music is good, but I will definitely be changing the songs out using pinball browser. The ONLY potential negative IF you have young children, is that even when you have the adult setting turned off, there is a lot of inappropriate call outs for little ones. No big deal for the teens and adults, but with a 5 & 7 year old, not ideal right now. But this too can be fixed with the browser program. I have only played the Prem but can't imagine being as content with a pro and not having all the toys. For the record, back in the 80s and early 90s I was a HUGE Metallica fan, but really don't listen to them much now. Whether you like or hate their music, the pin is still absolutely worth playing/owning.

Great game, but sadly the hammer on the premium/le has had a lot of common issues upon NIB openings. Fixable, but a nuisance that should be made aware to any potential buyers.

Still awesome!

Wow terrible pinball !!! the best to date. truly exceptional. my favorite. to try with a big sound changed and this is the slap. many shoot, varied and full of fashion challenge, fuel, seek and destroy, blackened, and justice for all and the 4 specials mode Crank it up. more general illumination on premium LE is a die for.

Thank you John Borg and Lyman Sheet, you've create the perfect pinball !!!

I absolutely love this game. I played the pro a bunch and was going to go nib and at the last minute ponied up for a Huo premium monsters. I couldn't be happier. The game is fast and fun with some great shots and can be very unforgiving if your not careful. I think the playfield layout is fantastic with all the different levels of shots. I've seen some people say they don't like the hammer but it really is not bad at all and how could you not love a hammer smashing balls through the playfield. I'm still learning all the rules but man this one is a winner in my book. I think this will go down in history as a top ten pin.

I've waited to rate this game until I have had it for over one year. Well, the honeymoon phase is over and this game still is awesome. I shots feel great, strategy is diverse, sounds and dots are very good. The playfield artwork is what every newer pin should shoot for. The artwork on MET should be the standard for pinball artwork.

Only dings I give this game are for the coffin lock and lack of kick butt speakers and sub, which should be standard on a music pin, IMO.

I didn't get into this one until game 2. After that I started to hit the right shots and man this was a great game. The lighting is fantastic and so it the sound.

Edit:
I have to add that my choice would be pro. The extras on the prem/le aren't worth the extra cost IMO.

Where do I begin. I initially had one on order when it came out but I put it on hold as initial code was a bit dodgy. Fast forward a year or so and I had a chance to play a premium with the new 1.63 code. I was hooked played a bunch of games and decided to pull the trigger on a premium. This pinball does not disappoint, It plays fast and is a dump truck of fun. Grave yard multi ball is a blast to get I love stand ups and three in a row is genius. I love the coffin mechanical locks and subway to the scoop. Sparky it a great toy perfectly located. Lyman as usual hits the rules out of the park. The Monsters Art package is fantastic. I may be committing blasphemy here but I think I enjoy Metallica more then AC/DC.

The hammer in the center of the playfield really ruins this one for me, it's just too large and awkward and blocks visibility in the one area you absolutely need to see to prevent SDTM drains. It's a shame because I really, really enjoy the pro.

“METLE is a solid overall package. It’s a good combination of old school and modern design.

Originality: good originality

Art/Lights/Theme: Very good. Stern was very savvy to hire an artist to create this entire package. I love the blue/purple against the yellow. Very trippy looking.
1. They didn’t plaster an ugly band theme on the playfield. It is actually real art.
2. The inserts are big and there are fewer than in previous Stern designs
3. There are not band member mug shots plastered all over this thing.

(My only complaint with the art work is the characters — they look like Simpsons, and those characters have always bugged me, because they look “dumb”)

Sound/Callouts: Very cool to get the musicians to voice the callouts
Flow: very good. There are no real "dead ball" spots on this game. There’s a little bit of stop n go with the pops, that serve very little purpose in the game.

Toys: Spark is there, but doesn’t really get in the way. Hitting the ball lock, is fine, and the snake works really well. It works better than it looks like it would work.

Ball Control/Hazards: good. I could that the stand-up targets, when hit can send the ball right back down the middle.

Balanced Scoring: (unknown) I haven't played enough games to know how the scoring works

Fun/Lastability: Pretty good. I wasn’t compelled to play and “Beat” the machine, so I can’t rate the game too high, but it’s a good overall game.

Symmetry: good. I’m rather sure its an asymmetrical design.

Use of pops: fair. They only have scoring opportunities. They cannot hurt the player. I still have no idea why manufacturers continue to hide pops in the upper corner of the playfield in a spot where the cannot harm the player.

The shots: (11) shots, and each one is satisfying. 11 is a massive number for a narrow body.

This is one of the few modern games that makes the top of my list.

The modes are plentiful and deep. The artwork is good, as are the light shows, sounds, music, and shots.

There are a lot of mechanisms that interact with the ball, which all do different things--sparky, the drop targets, the tombstone, the hammer, and the snake.

This is my new Grail < Was Sttng . and then SM but now METPrem.SM/STTNG . The game has so much/ Modes/multiballs / lots to hit and aim for.. if this game was in Stereo OMG how awesome would it be ..this is a keeper for EVER . With Pinbrowser available I gave it an excellent rating now / The Snake Jaw drop target is a favorite . Modes galore. Crank it up mode is like having 4 different Scared stiff o meters to accomplish . AWE SOME
