Played the Williams original and own this one now. I'm not going to compare the differences between the two, simply base my rating on this remake. The shots are very fun, fast paced, and the toys are great. Out of all the pinball machines I've played and owned, this will most likely always be in my top 5 favorite. The humor, the simple learning the rules, and general fun is what tangle me up in this game. I've always been a huge fan of machines with shaker motors, so that adds a bit of icing on the cake. Could the lighting be better? Sure, but I have pin stadium in it, so that solves that issue.

Really can't go wrong with MMR.

This is a very fun game. Love the pop up trolls. The shots to make the castle explode are great. The ramps are fun. The rule set is easy to understand. My girlfriend plays pinball and this is one of her 2 favorite games.

I enjoy this game a lot and can understand why it's rated at the top of the top 100 (not that the top 100 on the list is the best way of determining what is good versus what isn't). I have gotten a chance to play this more since my initial review, and I had more fun than I thought I would and therefore I'm updating my review to a better score. The game really grows on you and the castle is a great toy. The shots flow well and the game plays at a nice speed - something that less experienced pinballers could handle, but good enough that people that like a challenge (such as myself) still are easily amused. I can see this game finding its way into my gameroom someday.

Got to play the pro remake several times and the color lcd is a great addition. Definitely on my wish list with lasting playability for the entire family.

What all games should strive to be. Great toys, layout, code, and theme.

This is my most favorite game out of any machine I have ever played. I will be extremely hard pressed to ever sell it.
The game play is easy enough to make anyone feel like they are doing well while to rules make this sooo difficult to beat.
The quantity of time and attempts at this game probably surpass all other played games combined.

Same as the original for the most part. It "seems" better though somehow. The lighting seems better and maybe the colors or sharper graphics??? A fun pin that's a little corny. I would play it on location every time. If I had tons of money, I would probably buy this one ... but don't think it is the best pin out there.

The shots on this game are so tight and those damn trolls lose your ball the majority of the time. The slingshots are too strong and often send the ball to the gutter. I was a little disappointed.

Classic game.

Remake doesn't play as nice as the original though. Flipper lag and doesn't feel as solid.

This is the game that got me in to pinball. I played it for hours throughout college and bought the remake when I had enough scratch. It's always fun, there's a simple to understand ruleset, it can be enjoyed by experts and novices, it's just a great game.

I have owned this pin for awhile and have played hundreds of games. I love it. I also own AFMr, and while they share some similarities (fan layout, destruction of a key item with a shaker, etc.), they feel so different and I can play them back to back forever.

It is one of the funniest games out there. I like the strategy of stacking multiball eligibility so that more super jackpots are lit. The castle blowing up is one of the best things in any pinball.

My only beef is that it is a really dark game. I solved that with Pinstadium lights.

Deserves to be one of the classics of pinball.

Dan Forden at his best for music, excellent rules, very efficient layout and a great toy. CGC has respected this masterpiece.

New rating after owning one for a month: It rocks. Playing a MMr that is fully working is a great experience. The castle toy and trolls are awesome and add some truely interesting risk reward to the game. There are so many strategies for scoring on this game that no single method is dominant. It is an easy game for noobs to pick up, and great for experts as well. When I have family/non-pinball people over, this is the one they want to play.

Original Rating from years ago:
It's a fun game that I get tired of after only a few plays. I understand it is the all time number 1 on this site but I just can't get into it. I really wish the music was better. The falling down castle has got to be the greatest toy of all time, but I really want something better than the default merlin on the machine. Additionally, I have yet to see a medieval madness in the wild where the castle fully works. The trolls are cool. All in all a cool machine but not my all time number 1.

it took a while for me to like this game, but once i learned the rules, it became as perfect as its rating has been foretold

Rules are the weakness of this game. The game needs more diverse strategies to attack it. Only lasted six months in our collection.

This rated as the top machine of all time for a reason. I didn’t play this growing up so there is no nostalgia factor in my rating. This is just a great designed, classic game with great toys (castle, trolls, etc) and theme.

A color DMD on the remake is a must. It just adds a ton to the game. The call outs and humor in the game are great as well. Some of the valley girl damsel stuff is very 90’s and dated but still fun nonetheless.

I have heard some say the remake doesn’t play as well as the original but I’ve played the original a few different places and there isn’t much difference. The remake has newer parts and is probably more reliable, though. Where I think Chicago Gaming could have (and should have) done a better job is on the speakers. The voices at times are a bit muffled and higher quality speakers would have been nice, particularly at this price point.

I just bought this game and I can see why it stays in the top 2 for such a long time. The game makes you want more and more the longer you play it.
