Good playing vintage Stern. I do like the fantasy art theme, looks good next to Seawitch - same artist. East to work on, and easy to keep running reliably. I am sure converting the feature and insert lighting to LEDs would make it stand out a lot better. Sound is old school, but standard for 1979.

Magic is a great example of Stern 1979. I enjoy the play----for a while. Drop targets next to pop bumpers add to fast action. Its fun to shot the left and right orbits. Art is "Conan like" Colors are bright. If i see Magic in a arcade or collection. i will always play a few games. I bought and sold this game. I just stumbled on another Magic. I will move it along after a few months.

I have 2 pins currently , as I grow my collection. Magic was my first pinball machine, and Whirlwind is my second. I have to say that I love playing Magic, especially considering it’s from 1979. The sound is meh, but to me, the robotic sounds really make this an interesting game, and certainly memorable. Gameplay is fantastic in my opinion; its fast, fun, and engaging if setup correctly. It’s a fairly easy game, but it can humble even the best players at times. I have flipped the score on it, so i wished it had another digit. But im over it. The side art is kinda weak o, snd doesn’t seem to fit the playfield and back glass vibe. It makes it look ‘old’. But no worries , as you’re not staring at the sideart when playing lol. Spelling M A G I C can be challenging at times, but honestly it’s a mix of luck and skill, which I appreciate. Whirlwind is obviously a more fun game, but in a completely different league...However!..i find both of these pins to be somewhat similar in speed and satisfaction. Ymmv..UPDATE 5-21-21 sold the machine and bought a Revenge From Mars..it got ‘old’, as my 90ies collection increased.

I really like this game, very underated. It has a bit of everything including drop targets, spinner, plunger. Very nice rule set, fun to play, great pin for tournaments. Hard to spell m*a*g*I*c to grab more bonus points but the makes it fun and a challenge. The backglass are is so/so and the audio is mediocre but the game play is alot of fun, challenging and fast

This was my first pin. I like the theme and it is tougher to get a large score but could be based on the fact that you need some luck to spell out magic. Overall basic but fun.

Magic is a simple player from Stern.

The Pros:
An open PF that plays much faster than one would initially believe very much like Kiss in this sense. Great orbit shots and a single strategically placed bank of drops keep things moving. Good action from the pops and spinners you can rip on make this straightforward design play like a dream. The canyon like space between the flippers and the nasty outlanes keep you on your toes. The skully "Dracula" pop bumper caps are rad.

The Cons:
The artwork is muddy and while it fits the theme, I'm not thrilled with the draftsmanship or the mix of colors. Who was the artist? I don't know and I don't really care. Sounds are standard Stern. The collect bonus saucer at the top of the pf is more luck than skill.

The Takeaway:
A good game that makes you work your bonus and keep the ball moving. A solid game from Mike Kubin, possibly the most unknown quality pinball designer of them all.
