Hidden gem of a game!

Written by matt_adams, published December 3rd, 2012. 4 comment(s).

I have had quite a few machines over the years and I am not often surprised by a machine but this is the best game I have had for some time. I am not normally a fan of Data East, I like Jurassic Park, Star Wars and LW3 (LW3 in small dose's) and I had never seen a LAH in the flesh but given the appalling film it was not on my radar as a game to buy but fate stepped in! I was collecting a game for a friend and the guy had this sitting there, he had owned it for 15 years and was thinking of selling, if I haven't had a game before I will normally get it just to have a good go and then sell it on so I asked him what he wanted for it and we agreed a price. If you ignore the 2 annoying things about this game, the translate (an alternative one is in the post!)and the repeated speech calls "come back later" and "here's another explosion for your movie kid" it is a cracking game with everything on it, a cool gun shooter, shaker motor, 2 captive balls, 3 magnets under the playfield (like TAF), ramps, diverters, a vuk, drop targets, add-a-ball multiballs and lots of modes, it really is cool, I think it will be staying for a while!

I'll get to play one for the first time next weekend. Looking forward to it after reading your story. Thanks!

i owned that game. it's not very deep. it's easy to master if you play strategically and have discipline. once you trap the ball on the flippers shooting the scoops are a piece of cake. some modes are a little harder than others. easy to get to world premiere. i think i got to the wp 3 times in a game. it's ok for a cheap price. i actually liked the movie. it was a typical arnold summer teen, young adult movie. if it's your only pin as in my case it gets old fast. has cool features with the crane, shaker motor, ramps, and kickback-very strong to left flipper. lower tier pin. if you judge a pin by the scores you get and long game times it's good. but if you are looking for challenge with difficult shots, deep rule set, challenge to get to final mode it's not good. it's a good arcade game with tons of multiballs but poor home use pin.

I own LAH as well, love it, great game. Either my settings are more difficult than some people, or I truly suck at pinball, but I can't get to the World Premiere very often, certainly not more than once in a game. Anyhow, love it, very cool, lotsa fun.
