not as bad as people say it is... a good entry pinball... I kinda dig the artwork... would have been better with slings... I don't like the kickers... you can't catch the ball on the flippers to line up the captive ball shot... just an OK game... I'll keep it for a while and play it...

I initially liked this game. My main issue is that there is main thing happening on the playfield is getting the captive balls in the center on the same side. If you are playing against another player, or if you are interested in free games, then this may be rewarding. But for one player, there just doesn't seem to be a point. There's not much else going on.

At first I didn't like this one at all, but it has grown on me.
Not a huge fan of the Looping balls or the fact you cant "Hold" the ball on the flipper.
I do like the way it alternates the special light based on how many balls are on one side, when the ball drains it senses which side has more balls (by switches ingeniously places under ball path) and makes you work harder to get the free ball on the next turn. I like the wide open playfield, sometimes its fun just to nail it and watch it fly to the top with no obstacles. On the other hand, besides the looping balls and bonus advance, not much else going on and I get bored quickly.
LOVE the art work/theme.
Gorgeous machine.

Not as bad as I remembered, can be pretty fast at times.
Getting the balls to one side is not as easy as it looks.
Sometimes you have to decide to get the ball to the top instead of trying to hit the balls in the loop.
High scoring bonus that even doubles on the last ball...
Haven't played it for over 30 years and recently bought one and adjusted it right, that's why I have to reconcider my rating on IPDB!
Much more fun then expected.

Probably the worst pinball machine ever. Had one as a kid, simple everything and a bore fest.

One of the worst machines I ever played on. Keep on shooting at the captured balls in the middle, that's as good as it gets. This is one of those "what were they thinking" when they designed this game. To top it off, even the artwork stinks.
Pinball hell.

Fun, challenging, and rewarding center feature (a captive ball/newton's cradle/horseshoe...THING). When all five balls are moved to one side of the center feature, an extra ball is rewarded. Particularly fun to play with two players because as you move more balls to one side or the other, you are essentially hindering the other player. Another interesting feature are the two kick-outs at the base of the flippers. Each of them propel the ball toward the opposite side of the newton's cradle, but their location also means that the player is unable to hold the ball, which keeps the game moving and requires quick thinking to master. Inventive and interactive captive ball unit in conjunction with the flipper base kick-out holes more than make up for an otherwise sparse playfield.

Backglass is in the upper echelon of Christian Marche's body of work, despite having playfield and cabinet art that feel a little phoned-in.

Although it has a pretty sparse playfield overall, the center feature with the captive balls is really cool, and not like anything else in pinball. I wouldn't want it as the only EM in a collection, but in a collection with a few other EMs (like the one I played), it stands out in a way. The backglass' bright colors are a nice draw to the game, too.

The first pin I remember playing. There must have been others before, but I remember vividly the Looping Captured Ball feature. What I did not remember was that besides it, the PF was nearly empty... very little to do !
