Classic is the word that gets used over and over when talking about this game and it fits. Unforgiving and fast with various unprintable adjectives attached also comes to the fore of most discussions. If set up right - strong flippers, clean playfiled, no cracks in the ramp - it is a game that will reward a patient, skilled player but eat a ball banger alive. What more do you want.

Classic 80's concept pin. Everybody was wanting to speed back then. Remember radar detectors???? Fun game.

High Speed is my first pinball purchase and also the one that really made a pin addict out of me. I know,a lot of things doesn't compare to later games but given the platform and the era, it had a lot of new features. It will stay in my collection forever.

A simple concept but repeatedly fun game. The back story and significance of the speed shown by the car on the backglass (a Steve Ritchie speeding incident) is a great detail for those who know it.

The art is so-so, the theming is great - but the music IMO is a bit annoying. Still a classic pin of the times, it will get the play.

Not my favorite pin. I find it a bit boring and too open. I was never quite good at it either, just seemed to play too fast without any sizzle.

A classic. This is the first game that takes Williams to the next level. A real good theme that's simple to understand. Run the red and escape the police chase. This is the first game to use a police lights on top of the machine which just adds to the visually stunning appearance. Again using Williams strong card, an interactive topper, gets the game noticed from across the room. The soundtrack as well as the cops talking just puts this game in an elite category not only visually but audibly as well. The traffic light, a simple toy, is very effective. A top table for it's time period.

The increasing speeds and shifting of gears is fun and deep. I especially like how it builds and builds... that is until you drain a ball :)

This is probably the one pinball game that gets better each time I play it. It truly is a favorite of mine. It may not be as deep as something like Twilight Zone or Judge Dredd, but this might actually be the machine that I play the most. Very satisfying to get that jackpot and it's satisfying in general to hit the ramp on the side flipper. I haven't played all of Steve Ritchie's machines including The Getaway, but this one is so far my favorite of his machines. Not too difficult, but challenging enough to want more.

High Speed was a landmark game for it's time. It's still a great game to play and introduced the "story" to the theme of the game. Nicely done Mr. Ritchie.

The Pros:
The game lives up to it's name. It's fast. Being chased by zombie cops is a frightening prospect. Audio cues and the flashing red light add a real sense of tension to hitting the ramp and starting multiball. Lights, audio and voice calls all come together in this package. The music works brilliantly even as the entertainment ends and the game over song fades away. Play is fast and furious decades before those silly movies came out. First seen in Flash, the upper flipper shot is also seen in games like: HSII, Rollergames, ST:TNG, Elvis, Spidey... it works great and is in many ways signature to his flow Missed shots are punished with outlane drains in the blink of an eye. Getting away to start multiball is righteous!

The Cons:
Once you get the swing of things shooting the orbits, the rest of the game becomes much less important. If the left outlane is unlit, the game is reduced to a "light the kickback" strategy. Balls dribbling SDTM from the pops always makes me happy.

The Takeaway:
When this game came out, it changed the way pinball was perceived and the expectations of story and theater within a pinball deck. Pat Lawlor spoke quite about this and his admiration of Steve Ritchie with this brilliant package and design. A game-changer, so to speak. After all this time it holds up very well. A great game for the ages and a very good game to play.

It's a classic
well designed playfield and artwork, very fast game, however, I didn't have a somewhat 'magic' moment while playing...
good game anyways!

I know this is a beloved game by collectors but I just cant give it a stellar rating. My opinion it's average at best. I enjoy the simplistic game play but it got old quickly.

High Speed is a classic that is a "must-play" for all pinball enthusiasts. I don't enjoy it as much as "The Getaway" but I still feel this game has a lot to offer, and is one of the best of it's time.

Took me awhile to get my HS playable, but once it was, DAMN this is a great game. Such flow with shots!
The ruleset is deep considering it's time. There are a couple different modes you can get to as the game progresses. This game surely builds addrenalin.

I love that you're rewarded with good game play when you "run the red light" and getaway! The start of multiball is kick a$$ to say the least.

Truly a masterpiece.

now PULL OVER!

This is my one and only pin that I own (at the time of writing this). It's what got me into the hobby. I love this game! Always leaves me wondering what would have happened if I just made that shot! Keeps me coming back for more! My friends come over and want to play this machine all night long. Nothing like hanging out with a bunch of the guys and playing a game everyone can easily pick up and have fun playing.

Perfect example of a game that doesn't have to have action figures glued to it, magnets, a DMD, or really any depth to it to be fun.
Somewhat basic by today's standards, it really doesn't matter as such a simple rule set and great shots make this game addictive and fun over and over. Also it's a great game for all different levels of players, if you like to entertain at your house.

I don't think this game amassed ANY quarters aside from its initial release during its time at our bowling alley. I played it once and was turned off immediately.

Flipper sympa.
Mais pas grand chose a faire.
Un classique.
Mais le temps a fait son effet...le son et la caisse on pris "un coup de vieux".

Great theme, pretty fast action, good game play. Lighting excellent. Artwork is fine w/ me for this theme. Represents the 80's quite well in my opinion.

High Speed is the great grand daddy of Getaway. It's doesn't have the same bells and whistles of its faster sequel, but it still plays pretty damn fast. It's fun and plays quickly.

had the game, had to make some choices for space (out of 10 pins) for an other pin, no hesitation... bye.
i really don't understand why people go crazy over this pin, not much to do, shoot for the ramp, shoot for the ramps, shoot for the ramp... this is got to be the worst background drumbeat ever on any machine, the game is so easy, first time you play the machine you knew right away what to do, turn the light red and yes... shoot the ramp.
i've tryed every set up hard very hard, replay almost (99%) everytime, no challenge for me, i like hard game, something special, this game was not for me!

Classic Ritchie. Well done theme. I really love revving the engine before launching the ball...nice touch there. The dome light on top of the backbox adds a ton of atmosphere in a dark room. The adrenaline sure gets pumping when you run the red light and even more when you get away. Hard game...almost impossible to keep multiball going for any length of time, at least for me!

Another fast paced, and fun Steve Ritchie game. The first of the Williams System 11's and it was groundbreaking in its time. I love the theme, another non licensed, original one. A hard but fun ramp shot, a frantic multiball, and some great audio! The police light and siren are a great attention getter. A game I want to keep playing "1 more time" This is another top notch, bargain pick with great features. What I love about Williams system 11 games is new technology with some great old school gameplay mixed in.
