What's not to like about Heavy Metal and this game. I remember playing this when I was 10 years old. Lets just say it had a lasting impression on my life.

I got this game and cleaned it up. It came out pretty well.
I didn't expect to much from this game but it got me hooked on it.
There are quite a few shots to make and its a lot of fun.
The sound and music is not that annoying as i thought it was.

Found one of these at a local store here in Charlotte. Simple rule set and easy play. Found myself wanting more. I'm a huge fan of heavy metal but the theme and music did very little for me ( I did like the guitar when hitting the ramp). Little cheesy for my taste but fun for a game or two.

Found 2 of these machines at the Arcade expo in Banning CA last month and it was one of my favorite machines of the day. Fairly simple layout and rules, but very enjoyable. The heavy metal rocker theme is so cheese-tastic and the guitar sound effects whenever you hit ramps and orbits feel fantastic.

If you like advanced or expert machines, this probably isn't for you. But as a meat and potatoes casual pinball table, this machine is fantastic. It's on my top 10 machines to own. Hope I find one I can afford someday.

Heavy Metal Meltdown is a relatively uncommon game that has simple, yet great mulitball gameplay to it.

The Pros:
Multiball is awesome! This game features a multiball lock/stack that is only seen in one other game (also designed by Dan Langois) with the "particle separator" from Strange Science. The building and execution of multiball is AWESOME. Scoring 10x on the PF with all balls on the table is a real challenge as this deck does not want to keep all those balls on the PF at once. Stealing locked balls from other players is always satisfying and a great way to look at your opponent and say "Gotcha!". Newtoning the ball into the top of the lock ramp into the pops may not yield much for points, but it sure does feel good. The different guitar licks for the different shots around the table keep the audio interesting and firmly seated in the mid- 80's. BEST TOPPER EVER!!!

The Cons:
Multiball (left ramp) is pretty much all this game has going for it as far as play is concerned.Yeah you can boost your bonus and max out your multiplier at the top lanes. The smaller orbits on the left and right are more luck than skilled shots. The Schatz targets on the inlanes should be worth more than 25k. How about extra ball when lit, and the slings alternate the lit target? There are actually more shots on this PF than one would think. Mystery programmer, WHERE ARE YOU! Imagine getting into multiball and then locking 1,2,3,4 balls into the AMP ramp and THEN... newtoning a ball out of the top of the stack for a jackput multiplied by the PF multiplier!

The Takeaway:
While people may say this is a one shot game, I disagree. You do have to shoot the level 2-5 targets to activate your locks. Multiball leads to awesome pinball rock n' roll action! A deck with siimple yet solid play on it is always fun and while this game may not be the best for a single deck collection, it's not boring as others might suggest. So, if you love big haired 80's heavy metal... this is as good as pinball gets! For the non-metalhead, this is a good game with a simple multiball ruleset. Find one with the Stacked to the ceiling, Boom-Box topper if you can. Rock on Wayne...! Rock on Garth...! Enjoy!

I feel obligated to write a complete review since there isn't much info about the game here....

Layout: one ramp, kinda two if you count the right half of the guitar as a separate shot. Two orbits, and a few targets spread out. Gotta have this one steep and leveled for good fast gameplay. You need to lock five balls for multiball (the meltdown one), and this lends to a great multiplayer game since you can steal them. Three pop bumpers are pretty tame, no bad knockouts from them.

Gameplay: meltdown multiball is chaotic. 5 balls on the playfield, nowhere to hide them and it is 10x scoring when all five are out there. It goes down to five, four, three, and two times each time you lose a ball. Keeping as many alive as long as you can is a task. If extra balls are on it's worth while to shoot the "heavy" and "metal" targets to get it lit. Don't ignore the bonus multiplier up top, worth your while. Game also has two extra buttons to switch the lanes to spell JAM at the top of the playfield.

Art: fantastic side art, maybe the best ever considering the time. Totally awesome. Love the playfield, it oozes late 80s hair bands. Almost impossible to find either in nice condition though so good luck.

Sounds and Music: there are haters out there but what do they want for sounds? It's all guitar and drums....that's perfect in my eyes. There are some slower beats, but otherwise a loop. The callout "Heavy, Metal, MELTDOWN" is about as epic as it gets.

Lighting: pretty cool light show for the multiball, gets you amped up. I would totally reccomend LEDs in this one, I did and am very happy about it.

Fun and lastability: I really enjoy it, doesn't get old for me, but I also love hardbody, I have a soft spot for 6803 games, simple, challenging, not deep, just fun,

Takeaway: if you want it you will have to overpay. These rarely come up and almost never come up in good condition. Considering the era I'd say there is maybe 800 still out there as most have been parted out or sittinin a barn rotting away. For under $800 you are getting a deal in my opinion. Great game to enter the hobby with, not expensive, and easy to take apart, clean and repair. You'll see some haters out here but this is one of the best games you can score for under $700 in the market.

Music is...how to say it politely... beyond bad ? So bad you can actually enjoy it ?
Game is OK. Nothing really special, but not a bad pin.
