Looks and sounds great (love the heart beat and the speech), but there's just something missing from it. Compare to Xenon or even Black Knight and Firepower from the following year and you can see that its simplicity hurts it. If it weren't for the theme and the speech, Gorgar wouldn't really be memorable.

Gorgar is a classic that I will one day own. It was the first to have in-game speech and an electromagnet that affected the ball in play. Truly revolutionary for its time! The speech is limited to just a handful of words and the sound effects get repetitive; however, the heartbeat that gets faster the longer the ball is in play is a nice touch.

For as simplistic as the layout feels and its age, there is a good amount of depth to the rules and challenge in getting high scores. It is one that keeps me coming back whenever I feel like playing something a little slower pace.

Gorgar got me!

I love Gorgar. I love the terrible art (seriously; did they hire just anyone to do art from the 70's through the mid 80's?). I love the speech: "Me got you." And it's a satisfying play. Stripped down to the bare essentially of a pin and does what it does well.

When all my friends started playing arcade games in junior high school, I was captivated by this pinball machine (ok, I played video games too, but spent a big chunk of my "arcade time" after school or whatever playing Gorgar). The back-glass, the voice capabilities, the playfield lighting, and the playability of this game kept me coming back for more.

Even though I'm an EM guy, this is one of my very top early SS games. I would probably not own it in my personal collection, but if you want a fun, classic playable SS from the very beginning of "talking" pinball machines, this is the game for you!

No wonder so many of these were made...

* very balanced game
* 8 shots for 2 flippers
* BOTH flippers can backhand critical shots (snake pit, and spinner)
* no lane change is great (real skill shot)
* fun timed arrow that pulses from standup to standup to earn a special
* fun timed "cave shot - special" that expires in 10 seconds
* neat rules on the spinner, only lit "half" of the time based on your bonus level
* voice sounds great (first ever with 7 words)
* heartbeat sounds great -- install speaker upgrades if possible
* strong pop pen, left pop is mean!!! (can score for you as well, a perfect pop)
* Eugene Jarvis sound effects are great
* incredibly satisfying drop target banks. Both are sweepable. (GOR) is easier.

Highly Recommended!

Visually interesting game at the time. Lots of toys on the PF. The layout was somewhat lacking. The upper left drop targets are pretty much only accessible via the bumpers.
I remember play time being relatively short as the ball likes to drain at the sides.
Overall pretty fun game with no particular strength or weakness.

Played it. I can see why people like it. Just isn't for me. Not one I would go back to or personally would want to own.

The speech is the games big hook! Still fun after all these years! The artwork is not lame, sound is good for the era. Lot of bang for the buck. Very fast for an older game, but not as fun as others from the time.

GORGAR SPEAKS!! Always fun. And you can hear your heart beating in time with Gorgar. Which is a bonus. I can never say no to to machine with a magnet and the red theme overall is great. Fun game to play....YOU HURT GORGAR!!!

One must remember this came from the year 1979. This game is great. Every pinball enthusiast should have a early solid state in their collection and gorgar would be a great start. I've owned a few for a total of close to 20 years combined and I still go to it. Gorgar speaks!

Slower than the newbies but still fun to interact with Gorgar's limited speech and heartbeat. Nostalgic. I'm an eighties child. LEDd the machine and put in LED displays (green). Family and guests still belly up to Gorgar!

To hell with gorgar!! Yup, that's where I'll go with this machine and back before I sell it. The art package is awesome. The colors on the playfield are amazing. The red and yellow really pop. You won't find that on another machine. This game is pure rock and roll with the bloody lady on the alter with gorgar watching in the background. Blood, skulls, bones, chicks, and a snake pit that holds the ball win win win! People say its a drain monster.... Well yes it is... You have to learn your shots. Sorry folks it's not like your modern games where you hit the ball and all this crap happens and then it falls in an out lane and then gets popped back into the playfield. What I like is I can have a game that drains right away or i can roll it over the next. To me that's what makes a game last and makes you come back for more. You have to be on your toes to play it. As for the sound???????" Well.... It rocks! The heart beat in the background beating faster and faster and the simple phrases really tie the game in. I wouldn't change anything about it. It's a dark dingey game. It's everything you would want and expect.

Odd theme but has a great playfield layout. Very fun. Shots are challenging across the board. Also love the sound. The beating heart raises the intensity of the game for sure!

A pinball classic that ages well. Very good artwork, dark theme, interesting music… sound is great. Well the demon does not speak much, but that's already a big plus.

The snake pit is a cool shot ! The magnet is nice for a 1979 pin. Overall PF design has everything I enjoy, including 2 banks of drop targets, spinner… Outlanes are greedy though.

For a game that is over 30 years old this sucker is amazing. Best looking backglass I have ever seen by a wide margin; it is a piece of art. The playfield is also amazing and if anyone doesn't like the sounds of this game . . . well then . . . they never heard it.

I'd like a collectors quality version in my collection for sure; not easy to find one in good condition.

This machine is HEAVY METAL! beating 500,000 is quite a challenge....You know the best thing about Gorgar? I keep getting older and He just stays the same age!

Gorgar's artwork is amazing. This machine looks even better in the dark. The play is slow at times and it drains easy, but I always keep coming back for more. The difficulty of the play is hard, but when you get a high score you really feel like a pinball champion. When you get a low score, which is often, you just want to keep playing. The speech is awesome (for 1979), props for being the first talking machine.

Gorgar has it's plce in pinbll history for being the first speking pinball table, that's about it.

The Pros:
It's a williams from the late 70's. The saucer shot on the left is not an easy one to make and the spinner on the right is satisfying when ripped properly. Trademark Oursler tm outlanes require attention and skill to be avoided.

The Cons:
Strange shots and rules make this an interesting play, for a little while. Funky Sword and sorcery art keeps me from wearing undies made out of animal pelts. While the speech is minimal and rather silly, this game is not a player in the way the rules of the game are built.

The Takeaway: This game has a place on memory lane, but that's about it for me.
