Played at Pinball Republic a couple of times.

A simple, but satisfying-to-shoot EM with two lovely banks of drop targets and a relatively straightforward layout. Unfortunately, the one in PBR felt slightly easy as I managed to knock down all the drops and then was desperately looking for a way to bring them back up (apparently there isn't one).

Scoring after you've knocked down the drops is apparently by looping the orbits and the pop bumpers, which is a bit sad as the drops are definitely the best bit.

Great artwork, fun and simple game play. Flippers are kind of small and the ball easily shoots trough the middle.

Nice drop target,…..a shooters dream.

love the bright back glass classic graphics

This is my only EM machine in my collection. Why have an EM? Because we all should - LOL! I picked this up at the same time as Solar Fire as a pair. It's a good game for the era it was made for: Arcades. It was meant to be just fun enough, while taking your money! It has a flamboyant theme, in that it is from that 1970's "groovy" time. I got a super deal when I bought this and will probably stay in my collection. The only reason I would look for another EM, is if I find one that really impresses me more (which I haven't yet and it's been 4 years!). A personal choice I know, but this is a classic "bells and whistles" game from the mid 1970's and everyone who has played it always has a smile!

Good layout of classic elements with a focus on drop targets. It's challenging the way Gottlieb lites individual drops, my only gripe is how they don't reset after a row is cleared, only at start of next ball. Groovy artwork and great action.

I hate to pile on, but it is what it is. When this game first came out, it was my favorite. But, of course, I was pumping quarters into it at that time. So about 7 years ago, I had the opportunity to play it in the wild, for the first time since 1977. I was thrilled to get a chance to play 'my favorite' game again. What a disappointment.

At that time, I was spending a lot of time at the Silverball in Asbury Park, but they were closed due to hurricane Sandy's impact. But I had been playing 2 or 3 days a week, for 8-12 hours per day, so my game was at it's sharpest. I won't go into great detail as to why it's just too ferakin' easy, because others have stated it well. I'll just leave it at this. I played it for about 2 hours, and put a total of 2 quarters into it. By my 3rd game, I had turned the reels over, and had racked up at least 6 games on the counter. I love that 'pop' sound, but sometimes, even that, can just become a snoozefest. I was happy that I walked away from it, allowing some kid to have the chance to come by and get to play at least 10 freebies.

The ultimate stop-and-go game, in my opinion. Looks like a boring 'hit the drops' layout like Jungle Queen or Spirit of 76 till you understand the rules, then you realize it's the exact opposite. Lots of cradling, passing, and aiming to try to pick off the right targets, then sending it into the pops to move the light around. Love having the outlane saves, but wish it was more possible to fall into them from the pops.

Like most gottlieb drop target EMs, suffers from not having the targets reset, made worse by the lack(!) of an extra ball. Once you complete them you're just stuck trying to shatz inlanes for bonus until you max it out, and then there's nothing to do but drain. It'd be great if there was some 'collect bonus and reset targets' hole but there's no room for that anyway. Need to try to mod mine to give another ball on Specials

Far Out is the pin I played "the most" in the mid 70ies. I am glad I could by me one. I like Drop-Down-Targets, Gate (right) AND "Kickback left". Getting all the DDT's down: the pin gets fast. When you are skilled: You shoot for all DDT's (DOUBLE Bonus) - BUT You try to shoot "Double-lit DDT": TWO Bonus AND 5000 Points. My Number One.

Looks like the poor man's version of Fast Draw and that's what it is. Very colorful playfield which isn't pretty or useful for my taste. I always prefer to see my ball first. Drops don't reset.

This machine is more pretty than fun. The backglass is the most impressive visual part of the machine. The game play is ok, it has two gates that open to keep the the outlanes from draining, one with a kickback, and the other returning the ball to the shooter lane. The playfield is kind of generic, as are the plastics. The 10 drop targets make up the majority of the game. Gordon Morison artwork is what makes this machine shine.

Far Out is a game that is looks fantastic and plays very simply.

The Pros:
Gordon Morrison knocked it out of the park on this package. The BG in particular is brilliant. The layout is simple and the rules are straightforward. Everything just screams "Classic Gottleib". Krynski can be seen in all the shots and angles. The 5k drop target requires solid sniping skills and good reaction times as the ball screams back down the PF.

The Cons:
This game is too simple. Just knock down all the drops (WHICH DON'T RESET! AAAAAGH!) to light your double bonus. Do this at least 3 times during your game and you're gonna roll it. Should have been a single player game. Even with steep angles, fresh rubbers, a minty waxed PF and open outlanes... it's too easy to crush this game.

The Takeaway:
This is a good game with the understanding that if you want a game for the kids or a trip down memory lane, here's your deck. If you are a serious player searching for a long term challenge, look elsewhere.
