I really wanted to hate this game. I just can't; it's too much fun. The Bill and Ted comparisons are somewhat accurate, but I think even Wyld Stallyns would find the good doctor a bit too cheesy. Shoulder pads and leopard print for Ted Theodore Logan? I don't think so. Somehow though, Dennis Nordman and Greg Freres make it work. By using classic themes and tropes found in the back of comic book ads (geek to stud), and making it so completely over-the-top 80's cliche in appearance, they've created a table that has an instantly recognizable place in time.

The story is simple: collect the ingredients needed to concoct the perfect formula turning you from zero to hero. Along your way you can test your reflexes, and show the resident gym bully what's what.

This is a great pin for casual players because the goals hit that sweet spot between simple to understand and just out of reach for beginners. The playfield is really busy, which is great for looks, but can make sorting out the rules unnecessarily confusing. The layout is somewhat of a hybrid. It's a fan layout in regards to target/lane placement, but the game is much more stop-and-go than flow. Its a nice mix that helps one improve both aiming skills and ball control simultaneously; it's pretty inspired design to be honest. Flippers need to be nice and strong to consistently hit the steep ramp, and the mixmaster needs to be dialed in to get any real action up there.

Collectors looking for complex, ultra deep rulesets and serious themes will likely become bored/annoyed with this title after a while, but it's perfect for those looking to round out the home arcade with tables that appeal to a wide audience of players and non-players alike. I can also confirm that this game looks a~maz~ing under blacklights.

While I think Elvira and the Party Monsters is a better Norman/Freres package, I keep coming back to the Dr.

In summary: I used to be a 90lb weakling, but Dr. Dude made a player outta me!

More like Dr. Dud or Dr. Derp. What were they thinking when they made this game? The theme is hard to get past to play the game, which actually is fun. This is the only pinball machine ever made that would benefit from the sound malfunctioning on it. The speech and music make it painful to play. Played it twice, will never play it again. I don't like to rate games based off such little experience, but in this case the truth hurts.

Great fun game. Not incredibly challenging, but it should be part of your collection. Love the music, love the artwork. Great game for people who aren't too familiar with pinball. Almost everyone will find something in this pin.

A fun game with awesome artwork and music. I wish it only had a deeper ruleset.
Big shot plastic figure is very hard to find.

Fun game to play. I'm a kid of the 80's and for sure this game must have been inspired by "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989). The voices and callouts are great for a 1990 game, the music is quirky and fun (as all late 80's music), and the designers definitely didn't skimp on the fluorescent colors. There are plenty of toys and gizmos all over the place, and actually the rule set is decent for a game this old. I always find myself laughing at the callouts from the "gift of gab" shot. It's fun to get the "excellent ray" treatment to work your way from a regular dude to party dude to the max coolness level. The overall gameplay is fun but as others here have mentioned, it can get repetitive at times. Overall though, nicely done fun, entertaining, lighthearted game. "Party on, dudes!" PS - this game must look pretty aweseome (and fun to play) in a room with black lights!

Mad I played this because now I want one! One of the best pins I have ever played! So much fun. I like the spinner off the ramp...hitting it multiple times is a challenge and fun. Shots are challenging, yet not impossible. Wouldn't want to play with weak flippers, but when tuned up this is a blast. Nice theming too.

I like this game. It's definitely not my fav (is it anyone's?), but it's a good game. It seems to have all the right pieces to be a fantastic game, but for some reason, it's just a good game. Not bad, not great.

I like the theme and idea behind it. It just isn't nearly as good as some of the other games released around the same time. I wouldn't pay more than $1000 for this one.

I own one and I love it! Its a drain monster but it is way fun dude! A great fairly priced starter pin. I have fully LED'd mine out including the displays. Parts can be a pain to find so make sure it is complete. If you see one play it.

Got Dude for a starter pin. It was shopped and very clean. Enjoy the game. Fun to play. Good game flow for multi-ball. Whole family is enjoying it.

A fun game that oozes 1990s schtick. The cartoony look of the game and the original characters are wonderful if you grew up in the 80s or 90s. Others may find this theme too cheesy for their tastes. The toys and artwork are carried over onto to the playfield. Nothing too complicated, but it is all colorful, bright and fun. Likewise, the rules, while not deep, are easy and enjoyable for almost anyone to pick up and play.

The game plays fairly methodically, with little flow and an emphasis on ball control to make the three main targets (Gift of Gab, Rock and Roll, and Magnetic). With that accomplished, shoot the rap, hit the Excellent Ray, and multiball is triggered. Multiball can be very challenging with fast drains, but the real points are scored during this event by hitting the ramp (Mix-Master spinner). Since scoring in multiball comes from how long your ball knocks around in the Mix-Master high scores can be rather random. One can have a long, well-played game and end up with 5 million points or so, but a couple of lucky bounces in the Mix-Master during the gazillion mode can yield scores of 20+ million in a few seconds.

Each target, once completed, has its own music and the game has some fun (dated) call-outs with "colorful" lanaguage (dweeb, dork, wimp, etc.). Besides the busty nurse on the backbox, this game is perfectly suitable for children or families and can be had a reasonable price.

Very underrated game in my opinion. Came right before the golden age of pinball so it doesn't get much credit. But it's a fun game to just walk up and play for a little while. Not overly complex and flows incredibly well. Only a 2-ball multiball which hurts the gameplay a bit.

Theme wise it's fun and you'll definitely get into it and friends will do. Kind of a throwback to the crazy 80's if you're from that era. I think I like the fact that it's original and unlike anything you've seen. I'm definitely a fan of light-hearted themes that don't take themselves too seriously. Sound and music are solid and it's a fun little game for those who are just looking to blow off some steam.

Dr. Dude is another Nordman/Freres game that has a great pf design and plays quite well. I have found that this table needs attention to the mixmaster, but if done so... plays as it should and happens to be lots of fun.

The Pros:
A light hearted theme with a comic book like format. The theme is not to be taken seriously and that is a huge part of the escapist joy of Pinball. The rules and toys on this game are simple, not always easy, but easily understood and acheivable by most players. The reflex shots are nicely implemented and multiball requires you to time your shots into the mixmaster so that the balls do not bump into each other and go down to the lower pf. The skill shot is cool.

The Cons:
The Mixmaster absolutely MUST be properly maintained and fed fresh rubber bumpers for the game to work with the Jackpot as it should. More Stick-um(?) rubber on the disc would help sling the ball around and make this toy throw the ball around and hit more targets. This toy/ feature alone knocks this game out of serious tourneys. Setting the switches to sneeze sensitivity helps the cause as well. This adds greatly to the "Bounce" of the mechanism and the nudging play of the game. Even then the mixmaster adds quite a bit of random scoring to something that should be rewarded for skillfulness. Think POtC. If the Tortuga spinner is not working as it should... collecting your multiball becomes a matter of chance instead of skill. Random JP scores do not help out the team for a serious competition deck...

The Takeaway:
A good game, better than most give it credit for. Even though I don't think it's tourney worthy, it does one thing better than most other pinball games out there. IT IS FUN! That's the point, right? The theme is what carries this game (as a new IP should) and if you are looking for an good time pinball game, take a close look here. We hear and see the dude in other Nordman games as well, and it's always a pleasure to see him make a guest appearance. This game in many ways, is a vision of things to come from this team...

You're a dork!
You're a dweeb!

Good luck SUPER DUDE!

Weird theme but as a huge 11C fan I had to buy it. Game field filled with gimmicks and toys. Needs a kick back like Radical though. I have played a few where the incline is so steep that hitting the center ramp is impossible and vise versa on machines where it is too flat the game play slows and suffers.

I liked Dr. Dude the few times I've played it, but it's definitely not one that really connected with me and said, you must own this. It's a fun game to play at someone else's place, in my opinion.

This game was very nostalgic to me, used to play it in a bar on Sunday nights with a friend, always enjoyed it. However, when I finally got one for my collection, it didn't live up to my memories of it, it just wasn't as much fun to play if we weren't paying!! Excellent execution of the theme though, and as usual Greg Fereres artwork is awesome!!

This game did not appeal to me ... The artwork and cartoons were fun but the playfield is just boring. The spinning thing is lame. Even for 500 bucks I would likely not take this..

A very fun game to get hooked on. Ball can drain fast , so the game is a little challenging. The art work is great. I have black lights in my game room and the pinball glows. Very few pinball will do that under a black light.

A staple at the local 711 back in the day. Fun back then, pretty basic game these days. Good skill builder. I love the magnet shot. Turn table is a bit useless. Steep ramp keeps it challenging. The reflex combo is fun also. Comic book style dude.

This game is awesome! The concept is so original. The art fits the time in which it comes from. And it's just a great pick up and play game.

The gameplay itself is never overwhelming, but it's challenging enough -- when set on the proper difficulty -- that you should never conquer the machine, in that you'll have four really OK game followed by a pretty worthy score.

As far as flow goes, the rhythm and sequencing of the shots are laid out wonderfully. You'll go all over the board trying to take care of the Excellent Ray and Reflex 1-2-3.

Overall, a classic, overlooked, gem, lost in the modern age of licensed mega-movie games, with their tired, unoriginal themes.

I like this game the theme is pretty cool and the back glass is cool with the holograhics. I think it deserves to be in the top 100. I had to re-rate this game I played it over at my uncles house and found it to be real fun compared to some others I've played that are in the top 100.
