I worked in Market Research at Stern/URL. This is the only pinball we ever had on test that we were asked to take back.

There are several gimmicks:
• The big one: a giant magnet in the center that's on all the time until the ball rolls over a switch in the middle, momentarily de-energizing the coil. This makes the ball do odd things as it's drawn in, changes direction, and gets released.

• The weird one: the flippers are were the outlanes would be, and when the ball goes there, it will sit on the end of the flipper indefinitely until you hit the button. Great if you're in the middle of a slice of pizza and can't get to the button right away.

• The frustrating one: the center is protected only by the sole pop-bumper on the game, so your only shot to save yourself from the outhole is to bump the machine.

• The boring one: as I mentioned, the only pop feature on the whole game is a sole pop bumper at the bottom. 15 non-popping bumpers. Zero edge pop. I heard a rumor that Harry Williams wanted something that played more like the old pre-flipper bingo games. I think he might have nailed it.

It's cool that it's rare. It's okay to play, but I would never buy this game for the gameplay alone.

What an odd duck.

Imagine Hi-Score Pool that plays like a bagatelle. Stern dead bumpers represent the different balls in a rack, with one active bumper in the center (similiar to Spanish Eyes), and an ultra active magnet (the best feature) in the middle of the playfield. Flippers are reversed to send the ball back to the shooter lane, or back to the top of the playfield.

Seemed like an experiment to produce the cheapest game possible (there's maybe 5 coils in it), one single digital display, etc.

Not all that exciting as a single player game, but pretty fun as a multiplayer game, just like most of the other pseudo pinball gimmick machines.

Able to play this extremely rare bird by the kind and gracious placement by the generous folks at The Sanctum in CT.
