Noteworthy features

  • A mechanical Skull rises above the play field and loads pinballs into its eyes for Skull Multi-ball.
  • A Microscope mechanism that captures the pinball on a magnet for "examination" and then releases it and kicks a 2nd into play for Microscope Multi-ball.
  • Bullet scoop shot that catches the ball and propels it back into game.
  • The centrifuge spinning disc captures the ball and and spins it around to count down for Centrifuge Multi-ball using Opto light sensors. Centrifuge spinner also acts as a shaker motor in it's own right(because of this fact adding a dedicated shaker motor(supported) is only used minimally via current programming).
  • Spins can be controlled by the flipper buttons in multi-ball play for Super Spins.
  • Deep multi-balls that are hard to complete with an add-a-ball feature at the saucer.
  • Two timed frenzies that are earned from the spinner shots.
  • The game uses 4 pinballs total

Trivia

  • Anthony E. Zuiker, a huge pinball enthusiast and creator of CSI, also assisted in the design of the pinball machine. “Gary Stern is the Godfather of pinball. CSI is the Godfather of crime. ‘Mystery’-based pinball is going to be the story telling mechanism of the future. Stern and CSI are breaking new ground,” Zuiker said.
  • The CSI pinball machine features original speech from Robert David Hall, who plays Dr. Al Robbins, the coroner on the Las Vegas television show. There is also speech from the major characters, including William Petersen, who played Gil Grissom and Catherine Willows. CSI pinball features music from the television show, as well as David Thiel.

Backbox ornament(s)

There are at least two distinct backbox translites on the market other than the original that shipped(character heads). CSI shipped with a tournament backbox header however several aftermarket variations are available online.
