This is the actually the worst pin I’ve ever owned, bar none.

First of all, the theme is laughable at best. Were they stoned when they came up with the idea to make a pinball machine about playing a pinball machine. Really!? That was the best theme idea they could muster? The artwork on the back glass is boring, ugly even. Clever how they put the persons head over the back glass on the back glass so that they didn’t have to draw another back glass on the back glass of the back glass.

In terms of playfield layout, it’s just a simple, boring, bleh game. The captive balls are cool, I like captive balls… at least I thought I did. Everything about this game screams mediocrity.

Glad I picked one up for so cheap so that I could have an example of what not to buy in the future. Sold it for seven hundred bucks profit and bought a wedge head instead.

Champ is a solid effort from Bally. I find the layout similar to Flicker and Boomerang, but not as easy to hit the captive ball shots, and lacking the circular orbits.

This is a great starter pin and one that is fun for some friendly competition. It can be a drain monster out those outlanes and it's easy to have a great game and then an epic failure.

I love the picture in picture backglass similar to Gottlieb's Super Score. Pinball machines about pinball are cool. The integration of the over the top 100,000 light in the base of the trophy is a great touch.

Champ is a game that is very straightforward. I'd go as far as to say it's too simple to be engaging.

The Pros:
Captive balls and a spinner are great shots to go for. See if you can sink the saucer through the spinner.

The Cons:
Jim Patla's worst design in my opinion. Understand that I am a huge Patla fan (I own a centaur ii and a Time Zone), but this game is a bore to play. Christian Marche dropped the ball with this deck. Pointy People would have been soooooo much better than this semi-realistic mess.

The Takeaway:
Open the outlanes, freshen the rubbers, sensitize the slings and steepen it up. You might be able to get something to play out of this design... maybe... probably not... ever.
