An extremely fun layout that is just waiting to seduce players who only have played games with ramps before. I love the play in this game, the ball locks, and the scoring.
The programming drags it down: sound cues get stacked, and sometimes you hear a sound from an event happening 6 second ago.
The artwork and animation, to put it politely, is totally douchey. It benefits from its liberal use of moose.

Best pool based pinball game I have played.

No ramps, but it has multiball. The central breakshot toy is very well done and fits the theme perfectly. The innuendo in the callouts and animations makes this one work better in an adult environment. I understand Capcom was going for a retro feel in a modern package, and I think they nailed it.

At first I thought this pin was boring but then I discovered that it's actually challenging and simple.
The owner has all the difficulties maxed, no tilting and the lanes opened all the way up with the plunger turned off. Let me tell you this is a very hard pin with these unforgiving settings. It is a drain whore that will force you to slow down and make accurate shots.
I keep begging for a little tilt forgiveness or at least the plunger on and lane tightened, but I think the owner likes watching the machine eat my money. I was able to put the high score of 7 million on which was barely beaten by the pinball wizard around here. I am still very proud of my score all things considered.

An inexpensive pin with a updated "classic" layout (no ramps, etc). Probably good in a larger collection, but maybe not long term as your only game. I like that it plays differently from other modern (DMD) games. A nice change of pace and good value for the money.

My first pin and I must say that it is a good starter.
I traded my street bike for this so that I could get into the pin hobby. It helps you become a better pinball player and makes you line up shots and think about moves. The layout gets a little old with no ramps or anything, but the middle toy is one of the best I've played. Having friends over, it provided an entire night of entertainment, no one wanted to stop playing.

I am ready for my next pin, maybe a DM or something to compliment the breakshot.

Excellent Capcom game made as a throwback to the EM era. The center ball lock is an outstanding feature that is a blast to play with. Overall layout shows an attention to detail with lots of shots using all the flippers. Artwork is good, but it has a definite 1990's feel to it that may not age as well as some others.

Dot matrix that plays like an EM.

This is a very simple but very fun pin to play. The breakshot is very satisfying as you trap balls behind the post and shoot them in the center pockets. Also the bank shot achievable with the upper right flipper is extremely satisfying if you can get it going a few times in a row. I owned this pin for a week. If it was in better condition I would still have it today.

I grew up playing my dads 90's Bally/Williams games. So when it came time for me to buy my first machine i knew I couldnt get away with just anything. I has a short list of games that would hold my interest and this was at the top. Not only is this game usually overlooked but is pretty inexpensive. It plays really great, Fast loops fun center toy and a simple multiball. Which is great for beginners, and tends to keep their interest. But for a regular player like myself. I needed a game that was challenging and had depth. This game has both. The rules set is amazing and really makes this game shine. If you haven't played one here is why this game without any ramps or tunnels has withstood the test of time.

1. Game has three"modes" or games as they call it 8 ball, 9 ball, rotation. once you complete those three games which in itself takes practice to do. You get to Cutthroat Countdown (wizard mode) where you have to hit 1-9 in order, with a timer and they move around the board. This is also where the big points are.

2. The toy in the middle controls the multiball. Its pretty basic, put three balls in after a slew of hits and good shots, you get a three ball multiball. The trick is that this multiball is a multiplier for the ENTIRE GAME! So no matter what mode or game your in, If you have 3 balls all scores are 3X, 2 balls 2x. Naturally your multiball skills will be tested on this game.

so stack a multiball on top of a wizard mode and trying to make shots takes some real skill.

Art work is simple but has that Vargas kind of touch to it. At first it took some getting used to. Now I love it. Simple and clean.

The sounds are good but my only complaint with the game would be some of the call outs the girl makes can get annoying. Ive seen others complain about the vintage chimes sound effect that it makes to tally score. It doesnt bother me. But if you really hate it, it can be switched off in the menu.

Music is good, it changes with the modes so kinda ramps up tempo as you go further.

I have owed this game now for a few months and i still play nearly every day. This game appeals to both those new to pinball and skilled players. This game will stay in my collection for many years to come. In fact I don't see myself ever selling it.

Amazing game.

Now that I have had this game in my collection for a little while I can say it really is a fun and well thought out game. It may have a sparse single level playfield, but the rules and layout make up for lack of ramps and other toys. The Wizard mode is tense and lucrative so it is worth going for. The playfield artwork and lighting are perfect and well done. The cabinet is pretty plain and if there was only one thing I would 'fix' on this game it would be the cab artwork.

The only gripe I really have from a gameplay standpoint is that the glare from the translite on the shallow pitch playfield glass is horrid. Luckily in a home environment I can just turn off the backbox bulb, but on location it can be annoying.

With white rubbers this game is really fast and bouncy, which control freaks will hate, but some good nudging skills make up for it. The build quality is outstanding. These games are a joy to work on.

Breakshot is a dmn fine game from Kmiec and team. This was considered a "Back to Basics" or "The axe is falling, soon" design. Why does poor Greg get stuck in these situations?

The Pros:
Once again, evidence that a well thought out ruleset and scoring will make a simple layout shine is blindingly apparent here. There is only one toy and it's one of the best ones I've ever seen. The modified up post working with the multiball lock is abolutely brilliant. The artwork is bright but not distracting, and the guy in the BG is holding a... Beer! Going through all the billiard games to the wizard mode will make you a happy pinhead. Wax this baby up and she screams. It's hard to believe that there is this much play on a game with no ramps or tunnels. Much credit to the design team for this table, it's great!

The Cons:
Like all Capcoms, they didn't make too many of these.

The Takeaway:
I gave the audio a 6 because the game says "Go for the moneyshot!" With Pinball Magic, the best Capcom ever did with pins. I'd go as far as to say I like it better than PM. An absolutely incredible single level game with no ramps. Proof positive that Greg Kmeic still had it in him. He must have channeled the ghost of the Zale on the creation of this righteous game.

I like mooses.

Update:
This is another game that has to be set up properly to sing. The last few copies I got my hands on were "easy" players and I ran the table with the quickness. I like this game a lot, but it must be tuned, fast and have a pretty tight tilt to not get into the bore-zone.

When I first walked up to this game I thought why would someone design/update an EM game to SS nowadays? well to my suprise it plays very great for such a simple style game... looks old school and simple game rules.... I wouldn't mind owning one myself for a good price.

Pretty fun game for being ramp free. Bunch of shots of different types. I really hate Capcom's flipper buttons.

not a big fan of this one. I think capcon was trying to get retro before retro was good. Is a good pool theme and would go good in you man cave with your pool table but I would much rather Sharkey's shoot out.

Another weak modern pin that plays like a wood rail.
Update: Came back for another run at this pin and enjoyed it much more.

Breakshot and I came in contact with each other at the wrong time.

Own(ed): Yes

Times Played: 50

Positives:
Nice PF layout. It was a good idea to give a modern spin to an older design. Decent rules.

Negatives:
Center captive ball shot is tricky to get working correctly. Risque art and animations. Plays slower than it should

Recomendation:
Not a bad game, I purchased it early in my pinball hobby years and it was at a time I wanted DMDs, so the old school gameplay was lost on me. It might be a bit expensive compared to older games that have the same type of gameplay.

Sound is a weak point on this one, the quality isn't brilliant and the music is a bit bland. The fake chime would have been much better with a proper backbox chime instead, but these were built to a budget. Trick shot with plunger is awesome, you can score a trick shot from the kickback on a well maintained machine. Real shooters game, flailing randomly just isn't going to score the points. Switch it over to white rubber for a better game, and drop the flipper power in the menus a couple of notches to suit unless you like infinite airballs.

It is a shame that Capcom gave up on pinball games, they probably had the highest quality products on the market. Breakshot was one of Capcom's classic designs that gave you the feel of playing an older EM game with all the benefits of solid state technology.

Breakshot is a great game to add to your collection since it offers good basic pinball machine without any complicated rules that your novice players can enjoy. It is a fun and very entertaining game to play.
