Some very cool features like the cannon, however gameplay is too heavily weighted towards the cannon shot and with too many videomodes. Flow not as good as it seems like it should be with the obvious third flipper for a rather unsatisfying combo shot. All in all, a modestly fun decent overall game. POTC is better. If you're into pirate themes.

i've owned this game for a few months now...very fun game. love the theme and it's family friendly.
the playfield layout is pretty cool and there are some decent shots, but it seems like the scoring is HEAVILY weighted on the center cannon shot. tons of points up there (especially double broadside). still, it's fun.
i love the cannon under the playfield...way cool. once you get the hang of aiming it, it's not that hard.
i also love the video modes: walk the plank, the knife throw, and swing from the riggings. none of them are very long and don't take away a ton from the flow of the gamplay. plus, there are often good rewards.
the sound is pretty cool, but can get a bit repetitive.
i plan on keeping this one for a while.

I have just recently purchased this game after researching all top 300 games; and watching their youtube videos. The game I have needed some work originally, like a new plastic top piece for my cannon, but the playfield was in excellent shape . Black Rose is allot of fun and it was not expensive! Because we live in Tampa the pirate theme is huge with the kids as all the sports teams and Gasprillia events are pirate themed here. We replaced the plastic on the cannon, leveled it to the play field and the game is a blast! Many of the kids are already familiar with it because it is included on a video game called the pinball hall of fame. Video games don't compare to shooting the real Black Rose cannon though!

I played this game after 6 hours at a pinball party. I was all pinned out but hadn't played a BR yet so figured I would as my last game before heading home. Having spent my time playing MM, TZ, TOAN, TOM and SS it was at an unfair disadvantage. However after one game I was hooked. My girlfriend had a game and she was also hooked. We left the party with BR as one of the highlights of the day. So much so I bought one a week later. I had room for one more pin in my collection and money was no object. I was going to get a top notch game and was prepared to wait to get the right one. I opted for BR. Pinball is so subjective that it is hard to say what makes a good game or even what makes this such a good game. Me and my girlfriend often love pins the other one hates. It is always interesting to hear our differing reviews. BR was just one we both fell in love with. In my collection now and not likely to go anywhere anytime soon. I like the cannon, the lights, the video modes, everything.

After years of searching, I finally found a working unit while looking for a new machine to buy. The cannon was a pretty cool feature, but it quickly becomes apparent that the entire game was built around it. Nice graphics, and fun to play, it's a good machine, but not overly challenging.

My machine is currently working 100% and is a great, fun game. Early looking dots, tho, on most video modes, but they are actually very fun (3 different modes/games using DMD and "fire" button on lock-down bar). BEST USE OF COWS. MOOOOOOO, MEEEUUUUUUU, MOOOOOO...... Cows also sword fighting. You can kill polly the parrot if you tap the flippers fast when he's on screen (would that be 4 modes, then?) Black Rose loves to sink ships, she says "Beautiful!" Some old salty voice says "AARRGGH" when ball drains. I think the music composed for it was brilliant, sadly, the quality doesn't match up soundwise to the cleverness. If you find one with a good cannon, you'll see why it's a pleasure to play! Very pirate-y, but completely family friendly. Makes me want me rum ration!

The cannon is a great feature and sinking ships is great fun with great graphics

Great pirate theme. Cannon fire toy unique and cannon fire back into play a real kick. Music and pirate voices are fun and not annoying, even after lengthy play. Artwork some of the best in pinball.
Many fun ramps. 2 Multiball is often & 3 multiball a challenge.
Super play for beginners but keeps pros interested trying to sink more ships. Video mode has worthwhile themes and prizes.
Cool cabinet. I like this better than the newer Pirates of the Car..

This is a great machine...not complex, but always fun. Sinking ships is always a challenge. My favorite feature is the whirlpool ramp...it is a challenging way to get an extra ball. The multiball is difficult, you get two...lock them both and you get three. Hidden treasure during multiball is fun. I love the music after you sink a ship! This is a must play pin!

A good game - great theme. Very good for beginners or visitors as very easy to explain rules. Dot matrix display is too basic. Rules not deep enough. Art work on the playfield is exceptional. Cannon is fantastic. Very good game but they could have done so more with the rules. This is a game that someone should write a new rule set / re-do the dots for using one of them-thar flash new P-ROC do-hickeys!

The ball launching canon in this machine is really cool! The canon pops up from the rotating disc under the playfield. Hit the red button on the lockdown bar at the right moment and "BANG!" the ball will be shot up with great speed. This toy alone makes this an amazing machine (not to mention the teriffic playfield layout).
