This game plays really nice!

I found Batman TDK an almost great game. The theme, lighting, and especially the crane are amazing. At first glance the playfield looks a bit sparse, that is until you get to see the crane in action. I enjoyed TDK more than most modern Sterns I've tried. The one I played was next to a Spiderman, and to me, Batman was a whole lot more fun. However, those who like lightning fast play, may want to look elsewhere.

I had always sort of overlooked the new STERNs. After playing Shrek I decided to buy one. Batman seemed an obvious choice, one came up so I bought it without ever playing it. How risky can it be, I thought to my self. As luck would have it, not at all. This game is amazing. Fun and gratifying for beginners with a deep rewarding rule set for experts. I am typically a bit of a ramp man. The bigger and better the ramps the happier I am. Batman only has one ramp but somehow it doesn't bother me. The playfield might look a little sparse but trust me it isn't. The crane toy and various multiball modes work beautifully and really benefit from the space. It all just sort of flows and you get a real feel that you are purposefully progressing through the game. I have software version 2.94, I never played the game with the early versions so I can't comment on them. However it appears to have a fully functioning rule set and doesn't feel unfinished. My only downer is that the VUK is a little week.

I like how the crane moves the captive ball like target around. I would like to own this one some day.

Batman was a surprise in that it was just so much fun to play. The crane is excellent. Certainly had me wanting one more go each time. I am not a big fan of the back glass as I prefer having no actors faces adorning the screen. Batman is not a theme that excites me but this is now a machine I may consider for my collection due to the fun factor. I do have a slight worry over the quality of some of the playfield as parts looked a little flimsy. How about a LE version? No actors on the backglass, chrome trimmings, get rid of cheap looking Joker can and replace with a Joker than interacts with the game. Also where you spell BATMAN, make all of these drop targets......much more fun. I am not a Batman fan but would buy a LE Batman if they were to make one. Make the Joker like Balrog in that you can hit it at certain times. Played it more since first review. It does not have me wanting to keep coming back to it. Good for a few games though.

I enjoyed it on location, but it wasn't until I picked one up that I really discovered what it was all about. The code update did wonders for the game. It often gets labeled as a one-trick pony because the crane is really the only interactive toy, which I understand because the Batmobile ramp and Joker can are purely aesthetic, but it really has a lot of strategy going on if you're into that. Honestly, I find it to be LOTR lite...gameplay, rules and layout are similar, plus it has multiple "wizard" modes. If you play one that is setup well, it's an awesome game, IMO.

This game could be perfect if it had the voice calls from the movie and a little more going on with the Joker and Batmobile toys. Final version of the code does wonders for the game, though. If you played it early, play it now with v2.94.

There are some things I like about this game, but overall it's just way too easy. Not one of Stern's better efforts.

Artwork is good but I think they should have left off some actors from the backglass. Do they really have to put every actor in the movie on there? Quotes were ok but the stand in actor's voices sucked. The crane toy is awesome but the tilting crane/bridge is useless as well as the Joker can. Gameplay is very fun though and fast. The lightshow is real good too. What I didn't like; Balls rolling back down the ramp will drain SDTM. The Scarecrow VUK has a jamming problem if more than one ball goes in the hole, which is easy to do but seems to be fixed in the newer code. Game is much better with the new code. On my wish list.

Wow, What a fun looking game but not as awesome as 2007 Spiderman!

I played this game at Six Flags St. Louis at the end of the joker ride. I walked up and it had a credit already on it so like anyone that loves pinball I had to play it. I played the first game for at least 10 minutes and took the high score and won another free game needless to say I beat the high score 3 more times "as I started to learn more about what I was supposed to be doing" winning a free game each time and the 1 time I didn't beat the high score and win a free game I got a match I was there for at least an hour playing before my wife made me leave in the middle of a game and I left a free credit on it. I really like the lay out of the game and having to hit the crane was cool but it just seemed way to easy. Maybe the angle of the cabinet wasn't set right or didn't have the updated software who knows. All in all it was a fun game and I would buy one for the right price. Update: I found one for the right price NIB updated the code and WOW its my favorite I will never sell it.

this is a fun game to play. the crane is a blast to shoot at. I added the shaker motor which definitely was worth the money. I am happy to have this machine next to my Monster Bash and AFM. I am a lucky man.

After some hiccups with early software revisions, the newly updated BDK (ver 2.94) can now be inducted into the elite league of Stern greats (LOTR, TSPP, FG, SM). Another of Gomez's best designs, this machine fires on all cylinders. Great soundtrack & sfx. Illustrated translite is incredible and is up there with Stern's LOTR. Some well done voice samples by the actors and most voice-alikes (Lucius Fox sounds terrible). Lots of very long shots that travel the playfield and multiple skill shots (3+1 hidden), make this one cool to watch as a spectator. An overall fun playing machine for novices & new code makes this game very deep for pros. "Where does he get those wonderful toys?" Scarecrow crane, batmobile teeter-totter, & Joker reveal mechanism (similar to Gomez's Playboy) are all very cool. The crane is the standout feature here, as it makes pre-designated stops requiring sniper precision with the flipper bat (unlike the randomly moving crane in Junkyard). The new code add tons of great custom dot matrix animation (to offset the sometimes blurry digitized videos from the Dark Knight movie) as well as shaker support. The updated code has also vastly changed the way to play BDK. Players can build up incredible jackpot pools via multipliers, but can easily lose them if not cashed in by making certain timed shots (amplifying the use of time extensions via difficult Alfred target, who also serves as add-a-ball). In addition to this, modes can be heavily stacked, making for lots of strategy (similar to SM or BSD). As for modes, Batman must hit certain targets to do various things like collecting parts for his costume (ala Path of the Dead soul collecting in LOTR) or searching for the Joker around the playfield (ala finding the Creature during multiball in CFTBL). Completing them all advances to the Bat Signal mini-wizard mode, where only the bright white flashers light the game (strobe on hit). Mind-blowing stuff! This all leads up to Gotham City wizard mode, which will really test advanced players. Batman has a solid track record in video games, but is often overlooked in pinball (DE Batman & Sega Batman Forever). DO NOT overlook the Stern pinball game, especially with the new software. It is a must own for fans of the Dark Knight, or just fans of the silver ball! ""

I may sound a little biased, but I am a big Batman fan. When I saw the game at a local Tilt, I had to play it. I was not disappointed at all. Stern definitely made a good game.

The more I play this game the more I love it. Very Fun! If they finish the code on this game, this game will be the talk of 2010. Update: 2.9 released and now this game is my favorite alltime game! Get them while you can this game will supplant or be considered equal to MM.

My first impressions are pretty good, a very nice flow and generally just a lot of fun to play. Clearly the coolest feature must be the crane. It's a big assembly with a ball hanging down from a spring-like mechanism. The whole crane moves left and right. Shooting at a moving target is really a lot of fun and real challenging in later stages of the game where the target just keeps moving frantically. All the shot are all well laid out and pretty varied.

The artwork for the game is top notch, in the same league as Spider-Man. I absolute love the cabinet artwork - very well done.

The sound bytes are pretty cool as well, especially the voice of the Scarecrow. But also the various taunts by the Joker are ripped from the movie very nicely! I enjoyed the music altough it seemed a but repetitive to me. But then again, I haven't played long enough to know for sure.

All in all, my first impression is very good.

Downsides? Well the most obvious one I can think of is the giant assembly where the Joker doll lives in. In my opinion, this is a big waste of resources (budget money) and playfield space and does next to nothing. I would rather have seen some cool mechanism that the ball interacts with. Like Frankenstein in Monster Bash or something of that sorts.

It is a fun pin to play with an interesting layout good call outs. Looks cool has some fun toys and yes ball times do last long but that is not always a bad thing. I is a fun well themed pin.

Very good pin! I really like shooting the crane!

This was a fun game, but make sure you're wearing comfy shoes because ball times are very, very, long. I liked the toys on the machine and some of the way things move is impressive.

A little too gimicky for me. I was really expecting something great, but was somewhat dissappointed. It could have been better.

My brother played this one so I might have a different opinion than him.

What a piece of crap. I love TDK movie but this machine is a total waste of time. Stern you could have at least used the real actors voices in the game.... You buy the license for the game and you come out with this.....
