I enjoy this game, but it's beginners and intermediates that seem to love this game. It has lots of gimmicks and toys and the Navi ball is fun too. The multiballs can really get frantic but that's half the fun! I'm not wild about the graphics on the color dmd, too dark. I'll probably swap it to a different machine. Not sure why this machine isn't rated higher, there are many people that come over to my house and won't play anything else!

Avatar is a decent game.

The layout is about average and reminds me of Indiana Jones (2008). But I think this layout has a bit more to offer. Especially the Link shot is very satisfying to make.

The rules are alright but nothing special. At least the Amp Suit Multiball is fun to play.

As on most of this era's games the animations aren't very good as Stern mostly incorporated movie scenes. The cabinet and playfield look alright considering the time when this game came out.

All in all this probably one of the best machines for a cinema as the theme will attract many people. But I think this game will come as a relative disappointment to most of the casual and advanced players.

Just picked this LE up. Was planning on picking up a different game that my wife liked such as Bond 007 or a Munsters LE. However once she turned this game on and saw the lights, navi ball, magnet action, she was hooked. Is it a deep game, not really, but it is just fun, like Taxi or other late 80's pins. Theme is spot on, cabinet art and backglass are gorgeous. Playfield is nice for the time, but not amazing. As other have said, with upgraded speakers, it sounds amazing. It's amazing how much stuff you can pick up a nice speaker system. Add a few colored LEDs, possibly an extra toy, you can almost recreate your own Avatar world under glass. Very happy to have this semi exclusive pin since only 250 LE's were made. Will it last in the collection for years? That is for my wife to decide. But for now, it is not leaving any time soon, just too much fun. Plus, love the voice actors and the heckling they do.

A go to game to play. Simple rules and good flow. Pops up top are a great way to get the game going. Had an Avatar Pro and the LE add the white powerball and some extra figures. Overall the LE and pro are identical but the chrome trim is a nice touch.

Not my favorite game on location. Shots seem clunky and seems like a slow game...will continue to try it and revise rating as needed

Played this a couple of times at a service call. I really liked the theme and back glass. Seems to be one of sterns better games from that time.

I think Avatar is a fun and challenging game. It can be a bear to keep that ball in play to complete certain objectives but pinball is supposed to be a challenge. I really like the music, and the 3D translite. I like the animated AMP Suit...I wish Stern had not taken shortcut with the AMP suit by removing the top of the suit to get it to fit under the playfield glass...you can clearly see where the guns were cut off of a stock off-the -shelf toy. Regardless, Avatar remains in my collection and I continue to have fun playing it.

the theme is there, the film can be heard while you play ... the playing field is a bit "thin" but there is everything to have fun, the magnet and robot has a nice effect that is the main attraction, I would have put some something more in the game plan but among my pinball machines I always want to turn it on ...... there are no interactive games with the dmd and this I'm sorry, however it's really worth having it

I feel conflicted with this game. It is fun and I would certainly put quarters in it out in the wild, but it really doesn't stand out in any way for me. I want to like it more because I enjoy the movie, but the cracker jack toy quality, simplicity of the design, and lack of innovation keep me away.
These are very rare, and the price has stayed low. These are "telling" signs for me.

Hard to find a theme/game the wife likes? Well turns out she loves this one. Sound is amazing when upgraded with speakers and Sub! Fast and furious with many SDTM which keeps me coming back. LE looks beautiful with chrome.
Truly happy I bought this one. In a good size collection it's a keeper and with very few made it's staying.

One of Sterns most underrated games, the link lock is one of my favourite shots on a modern Stern, the AMP suit is another great shot/feature similar in pay off to the Monger on Ironman. On my 2nd NIB LE & this one wont be going anywhere.

Underrated game. Punishing. Keeps you coming back for more. Game play is much like Iron Man. I would not have both in the same collection. I love both movies, I love both games, I love the technical aspect of what Iron Man means as a theme (I am an engineer), at the end of the day I think Avatar is a better game. If you are an Iron Man fan, try playing Avatar and see if you connect.

The sound on this machine is unreal compared to most other machines I've had the chance to play. The fact that they didn't just sample available voice tracks from the movie, but recorded such an assortment just for the game is a real treat. I didn't think I could love a game as much as my beloved Addams Family, but this table is a heck of a close second. It's the perfect blend of excellent game and intense challenge. It frustrates me to no end how challenging it can be, and yet I keep wanting to play again and again.

This game is so much better than it's reputation. Sounds and call outs are superb and nice selection of shots.

Similar rule set to IM in that need to light the 6 inserts in 1 ball. Hard to do. For big scores Link multi ball is the way to go although managed to get 60 million on Bomber mode.

Is it better than IM? Well, some aspects are but the intensity takes more time to build. Enjoyed this game way more than many many other Stern's.

Blah! I bought an Le NIB based on the movie which both my wife & I loved. Big mistake. Quickest game I resold. I hated the layout, single ramp and cheap toys. The game itself(backglass & cabinet) is gorgeous. Lost money but lesson learned. Play before you buy.

Great theme and art package for Stern. Added figures on the playfield look great. The addition of the Navi Ball is fun, but not implemented into the rules as well as TZ years before it. The captive ball lock is a neat idea, and works well. This game has one of the worse rule packages I have seen. After every ball you loose your progress towards the wizard mode. This makes Avatar really a one ball game. I enjoy challenging games, but this unfairly makes Avatar difficult in a frustrating way. The fact that this is unchangeable in the options too is unacceptable. The playfield design is not all that great either. Add all these things up and you have a below average machine based on a great movie.

Ok, just picked up an Avatar LE and this review is based on 50 or so plays. First, this is by far, definitely , the most under rated game i have ever played. Yes there is only one ramp. Not sure I would even comment, but , that seems to be a big deal. Not for me!! I have played the pro in the wild, but, the LE is the better game . Well worth the extra cash.
Over all game review so far: Fast play. Very good flow. The Navi ball motors around the play field and the ramp. The game is beautiful. The chrome trim makes the cabinet pop. The cabinet art work is very good and the 3d back glass is my favorite of all the games that I own(ed). I am not an Avatar junkie, so my review on the cabinet is strictly based on my overall observations .
The rules do not seem to be overly deep. So far , my strategy has been to stack multi balls and rack up the points. I have not yet reviewed the on line rules so there may be more to do. You do not need TSPP deep rules to have fun with a game. The wizard mode is attainable for the moderate player.
My game has the full package of coin taker options and they enhance the light show. The light show is also very colorful and is its' best in multi ball.
The DMD show is from actual movie clips for those that like clips versus animations. Very cool.
Now the best part. The sound!! My game still has the stock speakers ( soon to be remedied). The sound clips are both from the movie and custom made for the game. Every time I play , I hear some thing new. Now since the clips are aimed at "Sully", I admit I may be a little influenced , but there are a lot of call outs and they are really integrated well. Lots of call outs are one of the reasons I like Tron as well.
So if you are not easily influenced by what others say about a game, and you like the new Sterns, including the unpopular ones such as TFLE and TAVELE, this game may be for you. There are not a lot of LE's (250) out there and they can be found in the low 4K range. Go for it. " You got no balls , Sully".

I can't figure out how this game is not in the top 100. Not the best of the new machines out now-a-days, but a fun game with great lighting and sound.

I also thought it had good flow and would be a nice edition to a medium sized collection.

Odd layout, not much fun. Themed well, but I was bored after 2 balls. Not worth the price tag.

I enjoyed the movie but the pin did absolutely nothing for me. In my opinion the playfield layout is poor and game play kind of cheesy. Will never go back.
