This pin nailed the theme. If you enjoyed the show you will enjoy this pin.

I have had this pin for about 5 months now, have played it a ton; so feel that I am ready for a thorough review.

Very fast game, lots of flow; out of all the DE's that I've played, I feel the flow is the best on this; if you crank up the back legs, this game is very speedy...Flippers need to be strong to be able to backhand both ramps; but love the fact that you can hit every shot on the playfield from either flipper.

Has great appeal for kids, with the beautiful backglass and rabbit out of the hat trick.

Scoring is heavy on the left and right ramp and on multiball, it's basic scoring, but super fun; challenging pin, as a ball that doesn't go all the way up the left ramp is usually a STDM drain, unless you nudge the machine hard; you get used to it...Gameplay can get tense at times.

Sound is good, have pinball pro speakers and sub in it, so it literally shakes; very good variety in DMD animations and sound.

Major knock on it is visibility in a darker room, it is hard to see the entire playfield at night; might be that I have some Blue LED's installed, but there just isn't a ton of lighting on the playfield.

Other than that, a very fun pin, with broad appeal...the kids love it and wifey and her friends like it too...Good theme for a family game room.

I liked it so much that I bought one!

One of the most colorful and attractive pins ever made. From a players perspective, it's one of the best, if not the best, that Data East made.

Another nostalgia piece from 20 years ago for me; this one was at the local grocery store "arcade room" for several months.

The flow elements and rules are OK, and the gameplay progress is fairly linear (though you can progress towards WABAC and a "puzzle scene" separately).

I found that multiball (or "Tri-Ball" as it's called) is much too easy to achieve, making it less exciting... although hitting more than one jackpot or getting a double jackpot is a challenge.

The animated backglass is unique and cool with Bullwinkle pulling different things out of his hat.

However, where this pin really shines is in the audio... superb callouts (despite "Wrong hat!") and magnificent music--especially the post Tri-Ball jackpot music. It's fantastic--some of the best music in pinball, even though it's just a groovy version of the "Rocky & Bullwinkle Show" theme.

The game can be a little frustrating at times because the rules are so linear and simple, and an untimely drain can really raise the hairs on the back of your neck. However, if you do pull off a "death-save" (which is fairly easy on the machine) the machine recognizes you for it and Mr. Peabody says "Good boy!"

Scoring is a bit inflated; it's a good pin for beginners... I don't imagine it's a great pin for tournament players.

Rocky & Bullwinkle is a lot more challenging and complex than it first appears. This game is all about unlocking features, building rewards and collecting jackpots. You could have a great time flipping around, but it gets more fun as you figure out the stacking and how to play the Tri-Ball mode. Mr. Peabody, Dudley Do-Right, Aesop & Son, Boris & Natasha, the Moon Men, and the titular moose and squirrel all have their own features, making the game as manic and fun as the cartoon show.

Another awesome 1993 effort from Data East, and one of their funnest games. The play field has some nice flow going on with the WABAC ramp, and the modes started from it are as good as a degree from Wossamotta U. Tri-Ball is one of the best multiballs in a DE game yet; the Super Jackpot is extremely hard to reach (complete the Pie during the mode) and the intro is frikin' awesome! It's also well integrated with the cartoon series, unlike several prior DE games.

There are several cons, too. The bumpers are often dead, and the lite Jackpot + 2x Jackpot shots never seem to stick. The Save Nell saw never seems to work on location games. There's also a software bug during Tri-Ball, where if you shoot the Jackpot shot during the intro, it doesn't award you the Jackpot. Finally, "Hey, Rocky, watch me pull a busted plastic out of my hat!" That trick, obviously, never works. Play one if you find one, but this is better off played in a shopped or restored state.

Everything about this game is superb, except for the need for outlane rubbers, and a massive overhaul in the programming.
If someone tweaked the code this game could be so much more fun. The mode timers need to be longer, too many modes are too basic, the WABAC wizard mode shouldn't be awarded via the puzzle, ball saver needs to be longer than 3 seconds, "double score" award should be disabled in tournament mode, etc.

Looks great, nice theme, artwork is top notch and playfield is full of colour. Too many balls lost straight down the middle, for a table based on a kids show, it's too hard for its own good.

Always loved this game, bright colors, nice lighting, themed perfectly. Some cool game modes go along to make the game pretty playable. Artwork alone is worth it.

A great looking game with a variety of modes and features and a fantastic real back glass with a unique mechanical animation. Although there aren't a huge variety of shots and none of them are super difficult individually, there are enough to keep the game varied. Although at first glance, there only appear to be 8 WABAC modes (two of which just award points or a random feature or points) there are also 4 more started by completing the "puzzles", and two hurry-ups from the Hat Trick (Lion and Rhino). You also have Save Nell started by completing the drop targets (or via other modes). By my count, that gives us a respectable 13 different modes that require at least one shot after starting or lighting the mode. Also, many of these modes can be stacked with each other or with multiball.

MULTI-BALL
Only one multi-ball mode (Tri-Ball), but you have several different strategies you can use for points: Standard Jackpot (Hat Trick shot to enable, right ramp to collect 20M, rinse & repeat with the jackpt going up 5M for each collected jackpot), Double Jackpot (Hat Trick to enable jackpot, Hat Trick to double jackpot, right ramp (within 7 seconds) to collect 2x jackpot), or go for Bullwinkles Treasure (complete the 12 "pie" lamps via the BOMB targets, right ramp within 15 seconds to collect 100M). Being able to add your third ball back into play is also a great feature (hit the three Hat targets).

Annoyances
A lot of people have mentioned the "Wr-r-r-r-ong hat" problem with repeatedly hitting the hat targets that have already been lit. I think part of the problem is switch bounce (check out how many times these targets fire in test mode from a single hit) and can probably be reduced with some foam behind the targets or by adjusting the leaf switch gaps. Of course, it will still say "Wrong Hat", but I don't think it shouldn't stutter anymore (I'll update after I test it out). I've gotten used to it after many hours of play, but it annoyed me for a long time.

Some of the timers seem a little short. Back In Time basically leaves no time for a missed shot once you get it going and the left ramp on the fly from the left flipper is often too risky. The Rhino orbits mode also doesn't allow any margin between shots (and even reduces your timer after your first successful shot).

Base end of ball bonus is capped at 2M before the multiplier. It's not hard to get to a 2M base on a decent ball so it's disappointing to see frequent 2M point bonuses.

There are some very difficult shots: I've only gotten the combo shot once (right orbit, left orbit, and then left scoop without hitting anything else). Also, there is a secret "Fast Save Nell" that is nearly impossible.

This is my second pin (another DE to go with my LAH) and my example is well-used (rough playfield, broken plastics, surface rust on parts, wrong stand-up targets, etc.) but still plays very well.

This is a fun pin! It has its flaws (wro-wro-wrong hat), but the quality of the theme and animation make up for any repetitive audio.
The back-glass animation is cool, the artwork and colors are bright, the shots are tight, and the mode objectives are really clear.
I played it for the first time for an hour with a friend in a bar, and knew I had to own one.

Rocky and Bullwinkle is a perfect theme for pinball. The execution of the theme and artwork is incredibly well done. I have to give credit where it is due to K.O'C on this table.

The Pros:
The art package is right on. I had no idea that this was a Kevin O'Connor package until I read the ipdb credits. Can this man do no wrong? Pulling the animals out of the hat is always entertaining. Great flow to the ramps and the Wabac is incredibly true to the original TV show. This game awards you for bang backs and death saves... Nice! The multiball start really gets your heart racing. I absolutely love the pulling the animal out of the hat animation on the BG.

The Cons:
Wrong hat... make this audio cue happen every 3rd-4th shot... please... Multiball is the 3rd ball gimme. Some of the rules are not so well thought out. Random Double your score award takes this game out of any major tourney. This lack of thought with the rules, scoring and play is another reason DE is not taken seriously.

The Takeaway:
I like playing this game. I love the way this game works with Jay Ward and Co and respects the IP of R&B. I love so much about this game, but Tim Sickel had SO MUCH GOOD MATERIAL to work with and he did not finish the job with the gameplay /rules on this deck. In my eyes, for DE... this game should be a fantastic one and instead... it's just a novelty to play. After saying this about R&B this score may seem high, but I love the theme and package and can't give these categories anything other than the highest rating I can.

Excellent example of how good DE pins can be. Masterful use of the DMD animations, and well thought out gameplay.

If you're not a fan of the R&B cartoon, pass on buying one. It does rely heavily on the theme to make up the "total package". If you happen to be a fan, buy it. It will make you smile each game.

If you love the theme you will like the game better, but for the rest the game is lacking in things to do. Looks great in a home for the kids, but adults will quickly tire. The theme inflates the price.

Fun machine, this was my second pinball that I bought and it looks really nice. I wasn't a huge fan of Rocky and Bullwinkle so this wasn't a keeper for me. Back glass is very cool with the magic hat trick. Playfield is very colorful, not a lot of toys but the one spinning saw and girl tied to a log was nice and the gameplay was smooth. Cabinet detail was nice. Overall this is a nice pinball machine if especially if you are a fan of the show!!

Got this machine in a trade for my double fish tales. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, nice rules and really good flow make up for an exciting game. Artwork is very colorfull and the animations are some of the nicest i have seen.

I bought this game for my kids and they definitely enjoyed it. However, Rocky's voice gets repetitive along with the gameplay. Not a bad game for kids.

As a casual fan of the show, this machine was a fun one to play. It was around my house for a year b4 it hit the bricks, and it was simply because it did not have long-lasting challenges. I own a Family Guy and love the seemingly unreachable wizard modes, they give me something to dream about. This machine had Bullwinkle's Treasure, which was difficult but not nearly on the caliber of a wizard mode. The art and color of this machine are striking and lovely, will look great everywhere, especially with the mirrored backglass. I recommend everyone plays it, but cannot see it as a very long term keeper unless you are a big fan of the theme.
