This game is Steve Ritchie's masterpiece. All his designs have flow but this pin has game changing rules. This pin will bring a smile to your lips.

This is a very popular game in my collection. Collectors and non-collectors flock to this machine, where they use to go to CV, AFM or MM. I can't wait for the color changing insert code. Prior to AC/DC release, ST:TNG was my favorite Ritchie design. I think this is better.

This is my second review of this game, and I must admit that it took a while for this game to sink in for me. The first several times I had the opportunity to play it, I just didn't feel like the code and gameplay were straight forward enough, and I was getting bad drains from the bell and TNT bank shots.

Forward to today: A friend of mine purchased the Premium edition a few weeks ago, and I got to put about 100 plays on it last weekend. Totally changed my opinion of the game! First off, he knows how to set up a pin.. it was set a little steeper than what you would set it up from the factory (bubble in dead center to just above dead center), black flipper rubbers for more grip, and a nicely waxed playfield.

After about 10 more games and the time it took me to get used to this game, I was hooked. AC/DC is not a traditional pin with a traditional theme, so once you accept that and focus on it being a pure pinball machine with a music theme, it just clicks. The modes are well thought out, and I liked being able to pick a song and focus on an area to shoot at. The game keeps you on edge and requires super-focus to keep the ball in play, no time to sit back while its going into a mode. Even when the cannon loads, you need to pay attention to the jackpot values to know whether it's worth the risk to shoot the target bank!

I left my friends house wanting an AC/DC LE or Premium, but we have an agreement.. I'll keep my X-men LE, he keeps his AC/DC premium so we can play each others machine and not duplicate titles. Seems like a win/win.

And to justify my rating, here's a little more breakdown-

Artwork- Some of the best in pinball. Flames, LED's, and tasteful AC/DC representations make this awesome. If I had the premium, I would prefer the LTBR glass. But certainly not worthy of bringing the artwork package rating down.

Sounds and music- Again, amazing integration of AC/DC related sounds (bell, "FIGHT!", guitar riffs, etc.) while the 12" subwoofer delivers some kick ass sound. The modes all have killer mode specific sounds, such as the train, bell, car, spinner, etc, all very well integrated and thought out.

Other aspects-

Game Lighting- one of the prettiest in pinball, the color changing LED's for the modes and red/hell theme is very pleasing to the eye, so much that it makes older games seem OLD.

Lastability- Tough game with enough to keep you coming back.. and the occasional breakout game shows me that this would be a long term keeper if I got one. I'm planning on snagging my friends game when he wants to get rid of it :)

Theming- AC/DC is the perfect fit for this game. Almost hard to explain, but it just works! Deep enough music catalog of great songs that get your adrenaline pumping.

Fun- Loads of fun. Even non-pinball people couldn't stay away from this one.

After a while this game tries your patience, it's a great layout and tons of action but brutally hard for me personally. I don't like the lower PF and the cheaper feel of the Stern game, seems like they cheaped out on some of the toys and features. Still all in all an 8.5/10

This is a good pin, if your a AC/DC fan then it would be a great pin for your collection. However it has no place in the top ten and even the top 30 for that matter......LATER

This game has it all and was my first NIB purchase! I first saw the Premium/LE at the Texas Pinball Festival and was impressed with the light show, even with the early code. The sound was amazing! After playing it, the deal was sealed and it was ordered. It has since only gotten better with the code updates.

Don't let the B/W snobs fool you...this is one slick machine from Stern and, if not their best, it's certainly in their top 3!

Not near my favorite Ritchie title, and near the bottom of his resume'. It's a great looking game, but the play is luckluster. Under Playfield is a good idea and looks cool, but pretty basic and boring.
I haven't been a fan of any of the Stern Music titles and this is no exception.
Canon isn't the best looking thing, and don't like the way it obscures the lane.
I gave it a lot of plays hoping it would grow on me, but no dice. I only play it now when made to .
Not a bad game, but not a great one either.

AC/DC: Man, this game just does nothing for me. I think the lower playfield is wasted (Hit the lit shots...then they re-light and you hit them again. Then you hit them again. Then you hit them again). I would have liked to see it "build" toward something...like a cool multiball (as in Family Guy's Stewie Playfield), or some other nifty feature that would make the completion of the lower PF useful. I do like the bell toy, and the shots feel nice and solid. The LEDs are a nice touch. The animated band in the top right is a bit cheesy...

I'm not a big fan of the sound package, either. Sure, you get lots of AC/DC music...but the same effect could be had if you took a boom box with an AC/DC tape in it, cranked it up, and put it on top of T2. It just plays songs with very little other audio cues. You get a bell here, or a train whistle there. Mostly, though...it is just a song playing uninterrupted.

For a big-time AC/DC fan, I'd recommend the game highly. More than anything, I understand how theme can make us blind to a games deficiencies (as evidenced by how much I like Stern's Indiana Jones, and why my wife loves CSI). If you are luke-warm on a theme, then it magnifies the issues, and makes you hate a game more than you should.

I don't hate AC/DC, but I'm not a massive fan....so the theme just kind of falls flat for me. Honestly, if it was some super-hero dork theme, I'd probably own it and like it a lot. (I'd still be disappointed in the lower playfield, though).

The ultimate in risk/reward from Stern, thanks to genius programmer Lyman Sheats. From its looks, the game may appear underwhelming at first (especially the playfield artwork). However, once you actually play this game, you'll be coming back for more. As a child of classic-rock parents, I grew up listening to AC/DC, so having some of their greatest hits pumping through my veins as I ramp-out towards "Jam Multiball" definitely helps. Giving each of the 12 songs their own mode makes for a unique & deep ruleset. Having 3 different multiballs within grasp is much appreciated, especially when you're bricking shots but still keeping the ball in play (yay, "Album Multiball" =). Hitting the bell is a risky yet satisfying shot & a must for getting those playfield multipliers up. Building up your song jackpot is addictive. But when do you cash it in? Decisions, decisions. Steve Ritchie & Lyman Sheats created a modern day classic. There's a reason it's Stern's highest-selling game to date.

This rating is for the Premium version which I have played on location and have bought as my first NIB game. This is a great pin to play in a bar, especially if the sound is turned up loud!
The brighter LEDs make the playfield really stand out compared with the Pro Version. It's great how they change colour depending on what mode or multiball you are playing. The drop targets work better when firing off the Cannon, resulting in less unfair drains, although there seemed to be a few more drains down the left outlane from the TNT ones. The Bell seems to work better too, and the clapper sometimes ends up sending the ball Hellishly fast back towards the flippers at times. I do like the additional lower "Hell" playfield instead of Angus' ugly mug, when I'm playing it, it reminds me a little bit of playing Stewie/Donkey pinball.
Bad points include that tacky mechanism of the group that rocks to and fro during multiballs. There are still a few unfair drains, and that cannon assembly still looks cheap and still blocks the view of the right outlane.
It's certainly worth the extra outlay over the Pro version, plus the Premium feels that it's a lot better game to play overall than the cut-down Pro.
Well I put my money down on one of these for my first NIB game, as I knew that was going to be updated with even better software, and now it's arrived I'm well chuffed with it!

Look. This game is fantastic maybe not #1 fantastic or maybe it is. You people rating this below a 7 really need to get it in check. This pin is fast and fun and rightfully deserves a top 10. It is simply amazing all around. I rated 10.0 as I do not think I could ask for anything else in a game. I have AFM, TZ, Tron. I plan on re rating in about 3 months when games typically become a bit stale and after WOZ.

For anyone rating this below a 7 please tell me which games are that much better than this.

Mini-playfield and the added toys are a must on this game for sure over the pro model! But even the pro is an excellent game just the premium is the way it was meant to be. My first NIB game and I don't regret it for a second. Going to be in my collection for a LONG time.

**Updated** Still one my top 5 Sterns ever

I just bought the premium game and all I have to say is WOW! This game has it all, I find it hard to just play a couple games. The sound system is the best I have ever heard on apinball machine. The led lighting and flash sequences are great, along with the animations. Lots of toys to play with, great multiball sequences go well with the music. The game is fast, flows well, and is hard to master at first. Hell is lots of fun and many playfield targets to shoot with the cannon. If you love rock and roll this game will keep you excited the whole time. I crank the sound and have a great experience that few other games give. This machine may be at the top of my list of all time great games! Good job STERN! Im just overwhelmed at how great this game turned out. I have a Tron L.E. and this excites me more! Pick up a premium or L.E. before there gone! you wont be dissapointed, its a keeper
