hard to tell in pics, didja copper the ball? just re-flashed mine about a week ago.
1/2 cup vinegar, teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon sugar.. microwave 45-60 seconds.
add a dozen really tarnished dull pennies to the soup for 3-4 minutes, then remove (use plastic for everything!)
then drop the (clean no oils or fingerprints) ball in and slowly roll it around about 4-5 minutes..
    viola! it's been copper flash-plated..

very thin shorter exposure looking more gold, or repeat a couple times to take it to deeper copper, either way wax it afterwards will be slipperier and slower to tarnish, or if you hate it just rub it away in a few minutes with some automotive rubbing compound.

you can also put it over a gas stove burner a while using tongs can get some wild irridescents, or cook it hard and take it to black like a cannonball, just depends how long you roast it.

serious.. give that super simple recipe a whirl, it took at least 100 games before last re-plate, still looked ok (more tarnishy than worn really) just lots better after another flash bath. near everything in a ziz being plastic it takes quite a while to start wearing away. last week wiped it clean with a little windex and old t shirt before bath #2 refresh.

when I was playing with heating it up there was irridescent blues and greens, at one point a really neat red before it started going deep purple some places.. then I thought heck with it and cooked it to being a black cannonball spare.
no guarantees but I think all the wild colors were moreso for the copper plating reacting into-with the chrome.

another pinsider zippy had some fun with the copper-flash plating by masking patterns on balls with crayons or wax.
easy to imagine a chrome ball with a gold-copper band flashed onto it for a LotR, other possibilities too.
