Quoted from Nihonmasa:

Hi Gianfri,
I will try but the manual specifically says 4 balls, and with only 3 balls the switch won't be down

Solved.
Was purely mechanical...
The rod in this popper get screwed into the plastic assy.
Mine had became substantially loose, making it sit lower than expected (for the rod part) => coil was not able to pop it up.
Screwed it back all the way up => works like a charm

In case someone has the same issue in the future, to avoid spending hours looking elsewhere

Well I just recently joined the club as I just picked up a Farfalla for free! Called the number in the Craigslist ad and discussed the machine and it's condition. No price in the ad and asked what he wanted. He stated that the ad was posted by a friend for him and said " just come and get it as I want it out of my garage before I take it to the dump!" Shocked I said I'll be there tomorrow and pick it up. It was already late in the day.
In all the years I have been collecting pinball machines I have never been offered a "Free" come and get it machine. It appears to be in overall great condition except that the back glass was cracked/broken by the movers he stated. Excited to get this one up and working!

That is pretty incredible, great job. Farfalla is a lot of fun.

#1955 3 years ago

Very nice! Always jealous of the awesome free pins that people snag sometimes, glad it went to somebody who will enjoy it.

Quoted from ViperJelly:

Are you going to do the 8 digit displays in blue? I think my Magic Castle needs them

Hello ViperJelly , guess what?

I have just received the white and blue digits for the 8 digits displays

#1957 3 years ago

oh sure. NOW you have white LED displays. After I made 60 of these displays

Sigh ... where's the undo-button ?

Some days you wish you knew when to stop before it goes wrong ...

I know bgresto is an option, but since funds are low at the moment - does anyone have a high res scan of the PC82 backglass they would be willing to share ?

Bummer. I had great success gluing 2 less damaged Zaccaria backglasses together with E6000. They are still holding strong after 3 years. https://www.homedepot.com/p/E6000-2-fl-oz-Clear-Adhesive-237032/203279322

#1964 3 years ago

I did the same. Just glue it and enjoy your game. I used a thin acrylic backing because mine was in 4 pieces. You might get lucky just gluing it.

PinballManiac40 , luvthatapex2 :

Ok, thanks, I'll try glueing and mabye an acrylic backing first - thank you for your suggestions !

#1966 3 years ago

glue does work good. Will work good enough till you stumble upon another glass.

#1967 3 years ago

My insert lights dim and then come back on strong, happens periodically. Also happens when pops start blinking. Power supply issue I suppose?

#1968 3 years ago
Quoted from gianfri:

There is a product called "contact" which cleans the contacts of the potentiometers.
That's an option
Otherwise I would verify that the Molex which connects to the sound board is not too loose and is not the source of the problem.

Thank you, I’ll dig in to that

I have a pinball champ 82 and was changing the rubbers on it. I noticed that my spinner isnt wired up to anything. Is the spinner meant to be wired up to a microswitch or is it purely cosmetic?
Thanks
Peter

#1970 3 years ago

Spinner should be hooked to a switch. It scores and has sounds associated. It has rules in gameplay.

Thanks for responding. I have nothing but the spinner and its supports. Where to begin?

Watch under the playfield, there must be a hole, and a stick connected to a switch just under the spinner area.
Find the switch and you'll find the metal stick which is supposed to pass through the hole in the playfield.

This stick is fixed to the spinner on one end through a plastic cylinder.
This plastic cylinder is inside one of the plastic spinner holders and moves together with the spinner in order to activate the stick which activates the switch on the bottom of the playfield.

the spinner has a plastic cam on it. Which a wire comes up inside the red tower, and the loop sits on the nub of the cam. the wire is connected to a leaf switch under the playfield.

I cast and reproduce that part, but you have to carefully drill out the hole where the spinner slides into.

#1975 3 years ago

Looks like my 5V periodically drops to 2.5V and then jumps back. Any thoughts as to the cause?

Thanks everyone for the help, i found the plastic part and also the rod that attaches to it.

All back together.

The glorious rebuild of Queen's Castle is finally underway.

What are y'all using for flipper links? A-5076 only seems to exist in Italian part catalogs.

none of the other EM games match up? there has to be something that matches. Most zac stuff comes close to something else. Did one of the fiber boards break?

#1981 3 years ago

The Bally 1975 “Air Aces to Wizard” links are about 1/4” longer. Nothing else is a dead-on fit.

I think I’ll take a Gottlieb link and cut it down/drill it to fit. The Bally links can’t be adjusted... hole is too close to drill another.

#1982 3 years ago

1/4" longer from hole to hole? because the fiber board isn't an issue, just the hole to hole measurement.

Hole to hole unfortunately. I’ll verify tonight.

Im thinking of cutting some new flipper links for my farfalla.

What is the hard plastic they are made out of?

Essentially similar matetial as williams plastic links?

Can's say for sure but the plastic used might be "Polyoxymethylene" aka POM.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyoxymethylene
Homepin used it for their flipper links.

#1987 3 years ago

i guess if you measure the link with the plunger, from hole to tip. Yes...hole to tip. If you find another that matches that measurement you can just go with the link and plunger as a whole.

#1988 3 years ago

Easiest solution is to measure and cut/drill a standard Gottlieb A5857 or A12047 linkage to match.

#1989 3 years ago

you were able to get the hole locations the same?

#1990 3 years ago

Yep. Easy peasy.

Dremel cut, drill hole, done.

#1991 3 years ago

sweet. you should post a how to for other zac EM owners.

#1993 3 years ago

Oooh shiny .... PC82 clearcoated and ready to go !

Now here's a new one, at least for me. Farfalla booted, but displays faded and playfield froze after 7 seconds. It still ran though, I could do the sound test. This led me to suspect IC34. Since the backside of the PCB was kinda dirty I decided to clean it first and thought what the heck, let's try it once more before desoldering. And now it worked .....

hows that lower right connection on the PS board? That always needs to be redone on nearly every zac. Repin the header and the plug. Will give you nice steady voltages then into the ps board.

And replace the fuse clips as well.

My Farfalla is speaking Italian right now with the Italian sound roms LOL.

Its just so weird and fun!

#1998 3 years ago

PSU is rebuilt, new caps, new connectors, new fuse clips. MPU is now exchanged for one from pinballsolutions.eu - great service and great product. Did I mention the fastest shipping ever ?

Displays are nice and bright except for lower right one which had a Bally 6 digit one as a placeholder. Will get a 7 digit Zaccaria one next week.

Voices are English but pitched a bit low. Will probably see if I can pitch them higher.

PF will be cleaned and clearcoated.

LED or old school bulbs - what do you think ?

#1999 3 years ago

Everyone has their own opinion on lights but I think Farfalla looks great in LEDs.

Did you do GI, backbox and inserts in LED, or just some ?
