Let's say I have a 90's DMD in excellent condition+ available to trade for another DMD. I'm wondering what my best options are...

I'd like to ask:

What your favorite 90's pins in the "$2500" group (+/- $300 based on condition)
Assume Excellent Player's Condition all around.

1. First, I want to know what pins you'd include in this group (pick your top 9).
2. I'd like you to rank them from best to worst so I can clearly see your top-2.

This question is still open, and I'm learning much from the generous posts.

Meanwhile, we have a fun contest running with an interesting format. Creme at the top is scraped (and put into the finalist's round) and the pins at the bottom of the curve are removed. We'll be re-voting for the middle-range until only 9 pins remain. When the sifting rounds are complete, we'll have a strong final round of 9. Updates are in post #2 below.

thanks...

My top-9 90's DMD in the ~$2500 range in "rough" order are:

FT
HS2
DM
JD
T2
WCS
BSD
JP
DW

A few that did NOT make my top-9:

TFTC
BR
LW3
BW
LAH
NF
SG (never played it)

PS: Did all drop targets vanish from pinball in 1991? Sheesh!
-mof

#4 8 years ago

A few I think are priced out of this range: (closer to $3500)

The Shadow
Road Show
Fun House (not a DMD but just saying)
Junkyard
Congo

#5 8 years ago

In no particular order (sorry can't do it)

DW
T2
HS2
NASCAR
DM
JD
Baywatch
LAH
SG

Most of those float around the $2500 mark +/-

I left off
FT
BSD
RBION
Due to trending price increases

*I reserve the right to update this list as suggestions are made, but this is a good jumping off point

I'd like to see your list with FT and BSD in there for sure... I put them in the $2200-2800 range for sure.

#7 8 years ago

JD
T3
BW
SST
NGG possible to find for 2800, I suppose.

I've sold all of these, but had fun with them for a little while
JM
DM
PM
WCS94

#8 8 years ago

FT is a great first choice, if you don't have that already, put it at the very top of the list.

Others that I enjoyed are..
JM
BR
SG
JD
BSD
T2
monopoly (I know)
BW

Not in that order.

#9 8 years ago

There are many that would be great if it wasn't for the theme and music......

Shadow
Getaway
BSD
Johnny Menomic
Dr Who
Demotion Man
T3
Black Rose
Monopoly

#10 8 years ago

No Fear - the ultimate under-rated adrenaline machine. If you like SR's big name games, you will probably like this one. Pure flow and speed.

Judge Dredd - so much packed into this one. Great speed, flow, art, humor, rules and shot variety. Flipper and ramps everywhere and they all work perfectly together.

Demo Man - if you like nice flowy ramps, this one is for you. Good humor too.

Doctor Who - very fun multiball and one of the coolest combo shots ever. Unique strategy with the Doctor selection. Probably need to be a fan of the theme to really appreciate this one though.

The rest are in no particular order..
BS Dracula - so mean but in a good way. Great stacking.

Jurassic Park - who doesn't love a ball eating dinosaur? Lots of unique modes.

Johnny M - fast and fun with a unique layout. Squint and pretend it's The Matrix.

Tales From the Crypt - if you like the theme, this one is great. Cool ramps and the Cryptkeeper...gotta love it.

High Roller Casino - this one took me by surprise. Unique layout and rules. Not much for flow or speed, but more fun than it should be.

#11 8 years ago

I'd add No Fear to my list as well. That's a great game when dialed in.

#12 8 years ago

Road show 3500, no way, it's hard to get 2500 for it. Great game, should be higher, just isn't.

Quoted from hawksfan:

I've passed on a couple under 3k over the past year or so.

#14 8 years ago

1-Demo Man- better than most games 3.5k
2- Frankenstein
3- No Fear
4- Black Rose
5-Batman Forever
6-Fish Tales
7-Jurassic Park

BSD and Shadow would be at the top of the list but nice ones are more like 3k

#15 8 years ago

No love for Indy 500? I'll throw it in there

#16 8 years ago
Quoted from tamoore:

I've passed on a couple under 3k over the past year or so.

There is one for sale on pinside right now at $2400. I would buy it today if it were within 100 miles of me.

I also would buy BSD for 2500 as well as shadow or RBION. Every time I have cash nothing is for sale close. If anyone is looking to sell contact me. Probably have all all the cash spent by the weekend

#17 8 years ago

You're list is pretty spot on , so I'll just add Jackbot

#18 8 years ago

Anyone without Baywatch on their list is missing out!!!!
Also Stargate!!!!

Aside from those, legitimate easy/med difficulty to find under 2500 I would add
JM
DM
JD
Teed Off
SST
Dr Who
HS2

#19 8 years ago

Hahaha. It'd be hard to find a good dmd for $2500 here. Even games like teed off and street fighter are that price.

#20 8 years ago

I'm really into lah right now. It is a pretty solid game for the money. Hs2 is my favorite though out of this list

#21 8 years ago

I appreciate the feedback so far, again the goal is to put together a nice 9-way poll and get a sense of the overall top-3 from Pinside in the $2500 range. I've picked up a few bits of info so far, but I'm having a little trouble discerning what the top-2 are from each of you. Perhaps that's a tough question to ask, when these titles are quite evenly matched.

Moved the list to post #2.

#22 8 years ago

Looking forward to more feedback...

#23 8 years ago

Stargate, you think is good, but after a couple of months, you know it isn't. It's a solid pass. WCS is better

#24 8 years ago

i'd take Stargate over most of those on the list. One of the few I miss.

I have a pretty nice WCS94, but we have to talk to Willie first

Maybe the worst DMD ever made.

#28 8 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

It's better than the other Gottliebs made at the time.

It's better than Shaq Attack
It's better than SFII
It's better than.... Well.. that might be it....

#29 8 years ago

Top 2:
SG
FT

Next 7:
JP
WCS
JM
JD
HS2
BSD
BR

#30 8 years ago

Didn't realize Barb Wire was so awesome that it deserved two spots in the top 9...

#31 8 years ago

You have BW in there twice and I think JP has to be in the mix of top 9...

Hurts but I gotta put Shaq above it. SFII & Barb Wire are probably worse though, but you at least assume Barb is going to be horrific...SFII has a decent them at least; sad.

I think Water World is the best Gottlieb DMD pin ever made. Who is going to deny that?

#34 8 years ago
Quoted from tamoore:

I gotta go Cue Ball Wizard. That one has really grown on me. It's like I'm playing a 90s Gottlieb and having fun...it's the weirdest feeling!

LOLZ!!!

I traded my first and had to have another. I bought stargate twice.

I traded TAF off and it may be the only pin that I don't miss. I would not buy it twice.

#38 8 years ago

By far my favorite game in that price range is Johnny Mnemonic. Game play is fast and fun.

#39 8 years ago

Is T2 top-9 in this group? I'm surprised nobody is mentioning this one either way.

#40 8 years ago
Quoted from pinballholder:

What do you take out of the proposed top-9 to put JP in?
-mof

#41 8 years ago

Revenge From Mars (Not DMD, but right time frame)
The Getaway
No Fear
Terminator 2
Fish Tales
Judge Dredd
Johnny Mnemonic
Apollo 13
Demolition Man

#42 8 years ago

9 of the 30 or so anyway:

World Poker Tour
T3
Who Dunnit
Getaway
TFTC
JunkYard
Roadshow - although these seem to have risen in value
Demo Man
DE Star Trek 25th

#43 8 years ago
Quoted from mof:

Take out BW from both spots and slip in JP and JM. Of course that me not being fair to BW as I have never played one.

#44 8 years ago
Quoted from mof:

T2 would be more like 2K or under...at least out here.

Just too many of them-

#45 8 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

Maybe the worst DMD ever made.

Wtf? Are you serious? Does SF2, Popeye or Waterworld ring a bell? If anything it's one of the best Gottliebs.

As far as the best for 2500 IMO are JM, JD, HS2 and NF. All used to be 1500 but are now over 2K-2.5K.

#46 8 years ago

Fish Tales
Tommy
Dr Who
World Cup Soccer
Flintstones
Judge Dredd
Stargate
Bram Stokers Dracula
Johnny Mnemonic

#47 8 years ago

Tommy! -- forgot about that one -- can it be had for 2500 in excellent, or does it creep up into 3k?
-mof

#48 8 years ago
Quoted from mof:

Not sure, I guess it depends on your definition of "excellent players condition".

#49 8 years ago
Quoted from kvan99:

I said a coupe posts after that that SF2 is probably worse. Water world is horrible, yet better than SG.

#50 8 years ago

Well if the range of conditions before CQ and near-CQ are:

(fair, good, very good, excellent) for a range of $2200-$2800 on these "$2500" pins...

I'm putting excellent as one grade below near-CQ and CQ.

I'd say: (at a high level)

1. no visible wear as a player
2. minor visible wear found upon close inspection

so I guess I meant to ask, "Can Tommy be had for $2800 in excellent condition?"
