Quoted from RWH:

Doesn't bother me at all, grew up calling each other hicks, hillbilly, redneck etc. and yes we are all of that. The only thing contrary would be to call us ignorant or uneducated, that might get you some flak lol

I was born and largely raised in TX to parents who were both born in AR, so I also grew out of the hillbilly/redneck family tree (just a slightly different branch than you Appalachian guys).

Overt insults might certainly trigger some flak, but most of the people I know would be more likely to simply politely smile and nod (maybe even with a "bless your heart" thrown in somewhere, context permitting), all the while resting securely in the knowledge that the "opposition" has grossly underestimated their intelligence and thereby conferred a significant tactical advantage! (Of course, if you notice the error of your ways and can tone down the smug provincialism and be nice, then all will be forgiven and you will still be welcomed at the BBQ.)

Blake Shelton said it best, "did you ever get down with a redneck" strap in for the ride baby.

If you are from Texas then you know what I mean when I say, "we don't crawdad", we take it head on full bore!

Quoted from o-din:

I think it went over a lot of people's heads who I was really poking fun at.

If it was me, I am just flattered you consider me a well-educated/nerd type!

My grand dad had a moonshine still in the north GA mountains back in the day. They never had indoor plumbing until I was a teen. They did not have a out house either.

They had a well that you had to use a bucket and rope to bring up water for drinking and taking a bath.

I never had any moonshine, but he made a awesome muscadine wine.

They were farmers, 80 acres with cows, pigs, chickens, any kind of fruit and nut tree, and 14 acres of vegetable gardens.

Mom graduated school with Ernie Elliot, Bill was younger.

My grand mom and Bill Elliot's mom were best friends, talked on the party line or whatever it was called all the time.

I have never once thought of any of them as rednecks, they were just farmers living in the country.

The first time I ever heard the word redneck was in that old country song: rednecks, white socks and blue ribbon beer.

When I was young, I was considered a redneck, because I chewed red man, and wore flannel shirts, and operated tractors, and it never bothered me.

Foxworthy made a ton of money with all this, and cool he grew up not far from me.

(and yes, I do love some of the photos, rednecks can do some funny stuff).

One of my best friends lives in Buffalo, NY, and he is far more redneck than I am, he is extremely fun to be around.

And even though I wear Hawaiian shirts all the time now, my neck stays red from all the outside work I do.

I guess I am part redneck, and proud of it.

Ha I’ll take your word for it. Don’t think it’s an experiment I have the balls to conduct.

You have no balls. Period.

Quoted from o-din:

I guess someday those nerds may experience their own cancelation.

So if it was directed at me, what was this part meaning. I just didn’t get it.

#161 3 years ago
Quoted from RWH:

Blake Shelton said it best, "did you ever get down with a redneck" strap in for the ride baby.

And Lynyrd Skynyrd says...
“My hair's turning white,
My neck's always been red,
My collar's still blue“

#162 3 years ago
Quoted from skink91:

Cancellation culture. It wasn't directed at anybody specifically.

Just that nobody is crying out foul when somebody uses a derogatory or offensive term like nerd to describe a group of people. Or perhaps like redneck, some of they themselves take it as a compliment.

Aha. I guess it just never struck me as personally offensive when another guy says it... more funny. That said, I have learned that disappointment generally follows when hearing it from a member of the fairer sex.

Same could be said for a lot of things that offend people now.

Usually it is not the people in the so called group that take offense, but others that are just constantly looking for the next thing they could make a big deal about so they can feel like they are in control of other's actions by forcing a change.

It’s really brave of you to raise these hot button cultural issues nobody else seems to be talking about.

Thanks man! This biting, satire post had given me a lot to think about tonight. I’ll get back to you after I’ve ruminated on this a while.

That's a great patronizing response, it's not spoken of or popular right now because all the "awoke and superior intellectuals" just can't see they are doing exactly to other people what they said has been done to them and therefore deny it or just dismiss it as you just did.

OD, c'mon man. You gotta try harder than this to hurt my feelings. I wasn't talking about poor white folks from Appalachia. Just cause that's everyone else's definition doesn't mean that was the context I was using it in.
Trump supporters=dumb fuckin rednecks.

As always, tough but fair.

Perfect example someone says something and instantly you lash out with silly shit, just what I was saying...ever the victim never the source.

#171 3 years ago

I heard they are going to change the name of the candy bar "payday" because it implies you have to work to buy one.

You know Gryszz I don't know you nor you me but let me just say I have nothing against you but don't make a mistake and approach me in that manner, you'll get what you came for that's a promise. There's absolutely no reason to be a complete ass, if you do not agree by all means lets debate but leave the threats out of it.

They already neutered it when they stopped labeling it a "Salted Nut Roll".

Hey now, that is a different candy bar sir. The Pearson Salted Nut Roll is still very much alive. Just had one last week.

You might be a redneck if you argue over salted nut rolls.

Love those damn paydays but I've never heard of the other. Paydays and Butterfingers were my go to as a kid.

#182 3 years ago

I stand corrected. May I suggest then, the superior salted nut roll.

I don’t know I guess... they’re everywhere around here. I always grab one at the gas station.

No threats here. I'll fight ya just for fun. You're the one making "promises". Don't condescend to me and expect me to lie down and take it.

They sell them around me, I believe there’s a peanut butter option, that’d probably get you a couple more grams of protein over the vanilla nougat.

Edit: I looked it up and Pearson’s is out of St Paul so it maybe an upper Midwest thing

There is... I don’t think they taste as good though. I always thought they tasted sorta like candy corn, peanuts, and caramel.

It looks like if nothing else, you can get them on Amazon.

The Pearson's Candy factory is about a mile from the airport in St Paul, that's why it's so prevalent around here.

They must not be in Ohio I guess, it just looked good and I'm a sucker for the peanut rolls, the saltier the better.

I have never had a beef with you or anyone else on pinside and I will apologize if I came at you in that manner as its not who I am. I may not always agree with others but I will always respect them, it's the measure of a man.

I hope you do come to Pincinnati and we can meet, I think you'll see we are not so different except I'll be the good looking one of the two, just kidding. I fear Pincinnati is not going to happen this year and it sucks we just got started.
