And to think, when I first arrived at Pinside, I feared being the only old fart leaning on the virtual Pinside pinball machine.

Nice to know I’m in good gray hair company

This may not really have to do with getting old, maybe it does, I dunno.

I ordered a Godzilla that will hopefully be available in March, about 225 miles from home.

I was going to pick it up myself and save $200, plus not risk Fedex dropping the thing on it's head. But doing the math, after a full tank of gas in my Dodge Ram ($75), is it really worth 8 hours to save $125?

    #4024 2 years ago

Yes it is. Racing fork lifts not friendly. Gmap an Arby's and good to go. Make a nice trip out of it. If you want guarantee what you expect .

    #4025 2 years ago
    Quoted from pinzrfun:

is it really worth 8 hours to save $125?

As I get older, one of the things I find most valuable is my time. I can make more money, find another pinball machine, etc. -- but I cannot add more hours to the day!

    Back story on the tractor.

    Yes, it's a model L.

It belonged to Doug, my next door neighbor of thirty years. It was left to him by his father.
He had it for many years and had every intention of restoring it.
Over the years, I was after him to work on it and get it running, but it never happened.
In the last few years, his failing health kept him from maintaining his yard, and it was obvious that he and his wife needed to move to a smaller property.
The last few months saw them selling off most of their stuff, preparing for the move.
The tractor went for sale, and he had a few offers on it, but they were refused. Last week he called me over, and said "this tractor means a lot to me, and I know how much you wanted to get it going. I want you to have it".

I have always wanted a tractor, but never expected this.

He is moving not very far away, and I expect we will visit him from time to time. I am hoping he will visit too, and drive the tractor around!
He is a kind and generous man, and I will miss him greatly.

    E

BTW, I do have it running, and it drives very nicely! just needs a bit of TLC!

    Quoted from electricsquirrel:

It likely meant more to him that the tractor would be loved by you vs. whatever amount of money he could have had for it.

My advice -- clean it up some and get it running. Don't worry about repainting it -- to nice of an original for that!

I just used them both up in the last two months.

Funny story! About 14 years ago (I was 25), my boss at the time was having a midlife crisis. I went into office to drop off some paperwork and had the most interesting conversation.

    Boss: JOEL!!!
    Me: Yes!
Boss: Have you ever heard of Indiana Jones?
    Me: **Stunned** Yeah,....why?
Boss: Those 2 have never heard of him.
**Points to the 2 clerks (ages 20 and 21) in the warehouse.**
Me: You gotta be kidding me.
Boss: No, I'm not! I know I'm getting old (31), but I'm that old.

For the next 5 minutes, I was lecturing the 2 on who Indiana Jones was. This includes the upcoming movie reboot at the time and the amazing pinball machine I've played back in 1993.

You know your old when you are deciding if you should eat the Wendy's frosty that you discovered in your car for a month.

I turned 61 today, and I realized you know you're old when you look forward to getting even older so that you can start stating your age in hexadecimal again.

(When I was 57 (base 10) I could say I was 39 (base 16), but at 58 saying you are 3A ruins it.
    When I get to 64 I'll be 40!)

Disclaimer: I realize this is silly.
