Buenos Dias. Juan Valdez was a spooky character, we always wished they would make a movie with him starring.

In the 60s, I was working at a fast food shop, looked out the window in time to see this drive by. I know that they are still being made so it might not an age thing, but the one I saw has been the first and only first and only one I have ever seen.

Yeah it was the Yuban/ Valdez commercials we looked for, along with the malt liquor I can't remember right now (The guy setting in a pool on a floating lounge chair and they played the cool music and a barmaid swam out with two bottles on a tray?) Rheingold?

I always commented on the poor acting in that commercial. The Chinese woman was a bit premature with her reaction, when the woman discovers that her "secret" was actually a box of Calgon detergent.

I know the days before plastic. Plastic flowers were just starting to come on. And I was at a Holiday Inn in 1966 when a plastic glass was dropped and then bounced; My parents were impressed with that.

Our phone number in the early 60s...CR-2 2731
CR stood for "Crestwood". Don't know what that meant. I think it was the local exchange, staffed with operators.
If you wanted to call long distance, you dialed "0" and told the operator the number. Expensive, so we hardly ever did it.
Here's an old phone we got at a local thrift store. Just a name and 4 numbers. Did they use 7 digits? SOM-4252 maybe...

Who remembers when Aunt Jemima only had pancake mix, and they decided to have her hawk syrup as well?

Aunt Jemima pancakes without her syrup
Are like the spring without the fall
There's only one thing worse in this whole universe

Late 1960's I had a Micky Mouse Fork and Minnie Mouse spoon from a gas station promotion. I threw them in the glove box. If I was out and about and ran into food someplace, I was all set.

No idea what ever happened to them through the years.

    Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Correct. It was a detergent additive, not a detergent.

Yeah, she raised her eyebrows just a bit too quickly. My criticism was always that I thought a Chinese laundry would buy their Calgon in bulk, not a small retail box. Or install a water softener!

Here's the three-slot payphone that I have in my gameroom:

    Payphone 2 (resized).jpgPayphone 1 (resized).jpg

That phone number is actually my current phone number.

I have a couple of other old-time phones that I still use in my house. A candlestick, a Western Electric 202, and a Dreyfus phone (like you saw on "I Love Lucy"). All of them work perfectly.
