This is something I think a lot about because I really only have space for 5 pins. Unless I wanted to put another 6 in the garage year round (how do pins handle winter weather anyway?)
WoZ (already own)
Metallica Pro (ordering Q1 2017)
KISS Premium
Medieval Madness Remake
And I think at this point I save the 5th slot for a future release. Hoping Harry Potter someday. If I HAVE to pick a game right now, Getaway II for the 5th.
Quoted from robotron911:Roadshow
Ghostbusters LE
Indy 500
Alien
Monster Bash
You have played an Alien? How are the gameplay and flow?
This thread just proves how diverse our tastes are...there are so many different five-game lists!
But none better than mine, of course (in post 208 on page 5 of this thread).
Only have five spots anyway so this is easy for me, but I spent years trying to find what I liked best.
LOTR - great shots and deep rules. Love the toys and call outs. This game is the real deal.
Acdc Prem - another great shooter and I dig the fight to cash in big jackpots. I love the band also.
RCT - just fun for me to play. Fun Lawlor layout with quirky shots. Mine plays tougher than others I have played.
IM - plays like crack on a stick! Can't stop playing this fast flowing simple rule pin that is tough to beat. It is the best one more game game.
SMVE- long game times that I never get bored of. Shots flow great. A SR treat! Like the call outs and art of the VE after I did not really care for them at first.
Could see myself trading one out to get MET to see what it is all about even though I just don't get it right now. I may get an early 80's Bally also. They were on a roll at that time.
Added over 5 years ago:For those keeping track, I added a more current list later on.

That's 5 right?
If you change you question to " which 11 would you keep? " I could play.....just can't part w any of them ( including my 2 soon to be additions) at the moment ( my previous post was harsh...I'll fix them and love them again in short order)...

i would maybe sell jokerz and replace it with something else but the rest of my collection, i dont see myself selling any of them. firepower, im drawn to that old school pin love it. if i could make an even trade jokerz for a nice space shuttle i would think about it.

Nice Thread
WH20 - The first pin I bought 8 years ago and still one of my favorites. Even those who don't play pinball love the flow and fun of the machine. It's easy to get a ways into the machine, but reaching Vacation Planner is quite another thing and completing it provides a real sense of accomplishment.
TZ - There are so many shots and things to do combined with a timeless theme. Lost in the Zone is achievable, but depending upon how you have your machine configured not trivial and not something you will not get every game that's for sure, unlike Final Frontier that was just a little too achievable.
MM - My neighbor has a MMr and I have to say it is just a lot of fun and a nice shooting game. There are so many things to do and ways to play the machine. Although I'm not a very good player as for me a 150-200 million point game is a really good game unlike Bowen that indicated that is an average game.
Shadow - Shadow is one of those games that constantly draws you back for just one more try at the final battle. It's fast, at times merciless, and really challenges your skills. There is a reason it appears in many tournaments.
The fifth game is tough. I have a Dialed In LE on order and I'm hoping that it will deserve a spot on the list based upon the reviews and feedback I've seen from those that have played it. In my case, until I get Dialed In, my fifth is a toss up between SM and CFTBL. SM has the flow between shots while CFTBL forces real control. With the JT spacing on the flippers and many of the tight shots close to the flippers the machine regularly humbles me. The two ball multiball sounds easy right up to the point of having to search and find the girl just to get the jackpot and then continue to make non-trivial shots to get the super. I always feel like I've accomplished something when I get a super on CFTBL.
Good luck with the list!
I really like the look and what I've been reading about the Alien rule set. Once I've been able to play, I may replace Walking Dead with Alien.
Quoted from gliebig:I don't have 5 in my collection.
The question refers to a hypothetical dream collection.
I have space for 6... and currently with only 5 pins so with one slot left.
- One EM (rotating)
- One early SS (Centaur above all)
- One recent Stern (rotating among ST, TWD, Mustang, ACDC...)
- One recent pin from another manufacturer (rotating, among WOOLY, Nemo, Aliens, TBL, WoZ, Dialed in, ...)
- P3
Easy, I only have 4 pins (and only room for 4) - in order that I purchased:
Breakshot
Getaway
World Cup Soccer
Fish Tales
A good balance and mix, I think.
Searching for the 5th pin, but no idea where to put it! One of these is it:
Judge Dredd
Whirlwind
Earthshaker
Funhouse
Roadshow
Quoted from dkrubis:Forgot Mousin' Around.
I'd love to play a Mousin' Around. It looks like a fun game, but have never come across one!
Alien LE
Twilight Zone
Wizard of Oz
AC/DC Premium
Star Trek LE
As soon as ALLE arrives, I'll have 'em all!
I'd suggest mixing it up in the beginning similar to this:
1 - A fast ball Stern: IM, Tron, MET, or TWD
2 - A longer ball Stern: SM, ST, LOTR, etc
3 - A classic Bally/Williams: MM, AFM, MB, TZ, etc
4 - A newer manufacturer game: JJP, Spooky, Heighway, or DP (once they clear up the mess they're in)
5 - A rotating roughly $2-3K classic game that can be rotated quickly as your mood changes
You may find that you like one of the categories enough to double down. That would be me. I love fast ball Sterns and presently own IM, Tron, and TWD. GoT also fits that category for me, but I'm not a good player.

While I like your categorical approach, you mis-categorized MET as a short ball game. It's more along the lines of SM/ST in terms of ball times.
