Gee Dave, I hate to break it to you, but your sorta Pinside’s Kardashian. We’re all following you and clicking “like” (upvoting) your pics and adventures.

    Haha I did consider that.

Nice pics rd, but that Salton Sea seems a bit too lonely of a place for me to hang out there very long.
Hard to tell from the pics due to sunlight fading, but I believe the bird in those pics is a Great Blue Heron. We have a lot of those down here in Louisiana. They are good at catching fish, crawfish, snakes, frogs, etc.

Yep, looked like a heron of some sort.

He wouldn’t let me get too close, and the light was fading fast. Probably about 50cm tall I’d say, maybe a little shorter.

Had an enjoyable day exploring Palm Springs today.

Cool area! You can see what Salton Seas would be like today, if the lake hadn’t sucked the big one.

Palm Springs is famous for its modernist architecture from the 1950s and it’s everywhere, flat roof, butterfly roof, A roof ... cool to see.

This is the “Elvis Honeymoon House” .. Elvis leased the house for a year in 1966, and was there for his honeymoon, that’s enough to charge you $35 a head to look at the house.

They have a Star Walk in the Main Street ... I presume it’s of people who visited Palm Springs once or something. Marilyn Monroe has one, so does Adam West. Danni hadn’t heard of any of the other people.

Spent today at INDISC at the Museum of pinball in Banning, near Palm Springs.

Firstly, I just wanna say that this facilty has come along very nicely since I was last here 18 mths ago. Banning has the chance to become the USA headquarters for pinball, I reckon. It has everything here ... 500 pinballs, lots of carparking, lots of arcades, lots of toilets, great weather, air con, carpet tiles ... what else do you need?

I’ve been focusing mainly on the classics. I was up to 2nd early on, but I’m currently 7th which is pretty good. Hopefully my scores hold up for tomorrow ... top 24 qualify for finals.

Dunno how Danni has gone ... she’s been off doing her thing! I know she had the 2nd highest score on Taxi in A bank at one stage ...

    Eventful day at INDISC today!

I concentrated on the A classic qualifying, I really wanted to make the playoffs. Today’s qualifying ran 10am - 5.30.

I started the day around 7th after yesterday’s effort. But before long I was headed down, as all the “big names” came over to the classics from the Modern. I kept in the top 24 most of the day, at one stage I dropped down to about 27th and I needed to pull out some really strong games to get back up.

I finished 16th, out of 121 so I was pretty happy with that. Pretty brutal, lots of big name guys didn’t make the cut.

So into the playoffs we went.

I had to play David Riel (world #14), Zac Wolland (world #85) and Ben Clement, an Arizona guy who was a really good player.

First game, Riel chooses Star Light and Ben Clement steps up and smashes 1,300,000 the first ball!! The highest score in the whole qualifying was 1,350,000 .... so we all think “well, we’re playing for second place...”

So 3rd ball rolls around, Ben has got it up to 1,550,000, and Riel has got 1,310,000 as well! 2 of the highest scores of the weekend, in one game.

I had 550k up as I started the third ball. I got on a roll and started MB after MB. Ended up with 2,200,000! Highest of the weekend. Much to my surprise there was a big group of players gathered and watching and they all clapped at the end which was pretty fu**ing cool. I was pleased with the game as it had a lot of control and composure, which is something I’ve been working on.

Alas, that was the highlight. As happens in classics, sometimes the ball runs your way, sometimes it doesn’t. Next up was Supersonic and I barely touched the ball and got 0. It all came down to the last game on Aztec, which was brutal and I only managed third.

So it ended up: Ben 6, Zac 6, me 5, Riel 4.

So I ended up 17th overall.

Bit of a shame after the massive Star Light game, but overall pretty happy with it.
