Quoted from rotordave:Cromwell, again, is an historic mining town from the 1870s.
Some of the old buildings are still around in the historic end of town.
More of the historic buildings went under water when this end of town was flooded in the 1990s when the huge Clyde Dam was finished, and the Cromwell Gorge was flooded behind the dam.
The town centre was moved a few KM up the road to higher ground. The area seems to be thriving today, with lots of new houses and industrial areas since I was last there.

Quoted from rotordave:One of the biggest trees is a Kauri (NZ native) called Tane Mahuta. It is in Northland. They estimate it to be 1250-2500 years old. rd
