    Quoted from rotordave:

In 1989, the superbly moustachioed cricket umpire, Peter Plumley-Walker was found floating in the falls, dead, bound at the hands and feet

Old mate Peter Plumley-Walker is back in the news today - 30 years after he was hoofed over the falls! The country is still obsessed with this case, even after all these years.

    Hi rd,

Saw this on The Vintage News on Facebook.
Shipping Ford Model T's to NZ back in the day.
Just had to mount the wheels, set up the windscreen and hood, and add gas.

The wooden shipping crates were valuable, and got re-used for a variety of purposes.

Sounds like they shipped almost complete.

We had a car assembly industry here until the 80s. Parts came in in crates, and were assembled here. This would have been done originally to avoid the high import taxes. But after 84/85 those taxes were replaced with a VAT style tax so whole cars were imported, and the industry disappeared.

The parts crates were sort after - there was a huge outfit in Otahuhu that used to sell them. Good for storing stuff in, out in the back yard.

In a Ford of Canada history book I have. It states that Model T's and some Model A's were partially assembled in Canada and shipped to NZ and Australia. This kept the assembly plant operating during the winter in Canada. In those days winter car sales were almost nil.

I was probably about to fall asleep when I posted last night, and didn't properly attach the pic.
So I just edited my post no. 202 above to now include the crated Model T pic. Sorry, my bad.

Further to Darcy's post, the info beside the pic from Vintage News site I believe did mention something about many crated Model T's going to NZ came from or though Canada.

That is a cool pic. Bolt on the wheels and away she goes!

Seems like pretty ambitious plans by NZ to plant a huge amount of trees.

Yep - we have to offset the carbon emissions created by 10,000,000 farting cows.

Cows farts are methane. Exploding cows anyone?

America has 30 million cows farting so maybe they can plant 3 billion trees somewhere. Preferably somewhere where they won’t catch on fire.
