Ya, drove to the beach, the whole time thinking of how to solve the problem at hand. I think i figured it out for when i work on it again tomorrow evening

Talk about distracted driving.
Drywall guy is starting to finish the tv area and the workroom and closet today. I gotta hurry up and finish, hes catching up to me!
Thats the tv area, taped and first coat on. Hopefully it will be done and textured monday so i can start painting in there to move everything back in. (If i get the rest of the drywall done that is)
I should hopefully be able to get a bit done tonight and a decent amount done tomorrow. Every piece going up now sucks.
I was just thinking about this, the walls and ceiling have knockdown on them, what does that do to installing the cabinets? Should i keep the area where the cabinets are going free of texture, the whole kitchen section smoothe, or is it possible to install them over the knockdown?
Why so much textured surface? Do you like it that much? To each there own but most people do not like textured walls.
Looking good!!!
My drywallers just finished hanging yesterday and the finishers start on Friday.
Have you decided on flooring options yet? I'm hung up on if I want to go with a sub floor or not. It would run me $4,000+ just for the sub floor.
Its a lighter knockdown on the walls, not heavy or anything, just enough to hide drywall mistakes mostly. That and i didnt really think it through! Floor eill be tile and carpet. No subfloor, just leveled and padding
Quoted from amkoepfer:Spyder, your room is looking great!
Thanks! It's a long road, but it's really starting to take shape. My dad and I have done everything (except drywall). We've been working on weekends since October. I'm hoping to have the main areas up and running in the next few months.
Ive been following your build, youre definatepy doing a more high end build than me, but either way it takes forever!
Quoted from amkoepfer:No subfloor, just leveled and padding
For carpet padding may I suggest Memory Foam. It acts as a vapor and is anitmicrobal. I have the 3/8 inch under my black light carpet and I love it, soft but firm and my games (on sliders) dent it a bit but it comes right back. Stool leg dents come right back too.
Those are old. After i started drywalling and realizing how much i had to fix due to drunk framing, i decided to stop drinking while i work. Ill just play catch up when its done!
I thought i had a picture of all the cans i collected from down there, but i guess not. I know there was at least 4 big garbage bags full, and a lot of empty cases. Alcohol and power tools turn a basement into a funhouse if you look to close and carry around a square and a level with you
Slowly plugging away. I got electrocuted pretty good today. Always a good idea to not install an outlet while the power is on! Monday i will hopefully get the rest of the kitchen area done, then focus on the bathroom
Quoted from amkoepfer:I got electrocuted pretty good today.
NOT a good idea.......you gotta finish what you started. I hope you weren't on a ladder.
Quoted from amkoepfer:Just a nice jolt that made my arms tingle for a few minutes
It's fun isn't it?
I was drilling through a stud and tagged a 110v line on the other side with the drill. It definitely hurt, that's for sure.
Very fun! Unfortunately im working night shift the next 3 nights so no work will get done until monday. Im really hoping to get drywall finished monday or tuesday so i can start working on cleanup and prep for paint!
I have a sprayer, im going to try it out with the primer/ceiling paint, if it doesnt work great i have a power roller as well
Quoted from amkoepfer:I was on a bucket. Just a nice jolt that made my arms tingle for a few minutes
I learned a similar lesson regarding messing with one particular fuse on Solar Ride while it's plugged in. Managed to touch myself to one of the contacts on the transformer right next to it. Now I unplug it first.
The last electrical thing I did (dimmer switches in rec and console rooms), was done with the power very firmly turned off, and double checked with a multimeter to verify the lines were cold.

Good idea. I usually do turn them off and check with a voltage detector, but i have 7 or 8 outlets high up on the wall that are actually from upstairs circuits and i dont have them labeled yet. Seemed like a pain to go thru every breaker to turn it off! When im done though, every outlet will have the breaker number for main or subpanel clearly maked inside the outlet cover
Only drywall left is in the bathroom. Still have to build a wall in there, insulate, tear up floor, etc. But im nearing the end of my drywalling! 138 sheets so far
Well my plan was to work all night and get the bathroom done. Unfortunately i cant do anything else without lumber. Everything i have is all twisted or bowed. I dont know of any all night lumber stores so i guess im done for the night.

Well who says it has to be open.

That's a lot of drywall to lug around. My guys went through 128 sheets, but 68 of them were 12 - 16' sheets.
Looking good! Have you started thinking about flooring?
Quoted from amkoepfer:True, but if im in jail itll never get done!
'If' ya get caught.
Im going to get the tile in place in the bathroom, kitchen, and bar, carpet the rest but itll probably have to wait a little while since im so over budget on the build
Quoted from amkoepfer:itll probably have to wait a little while since im so over budget on the build
I'm running out of money too.
Every time I turn around it's $700 here, $1,200 there. I don't think I can drive through Home Depot's parking lot without spending $200.
Quoted from amkoepfer:I got electrocuted pretty good today
Zappa! I have been there, always makes your balls tingle just a little!

I ran into the same problem with my garage addition and complete garage finish permits, gas permits, electric permits, insulation permits. Took forever to get finalized.
Quoted from amkoepfer:What are permits????
Your house burn down because of faulty wiring your insurance company and the city will ask to see your records of the permit. If you no got or the city have no record of a permit being pulled you could be in a shit load of trouble and your insurance company may not cover your loss then. That's what I've been told.
True. But it was a finished basement when we bought the house. Weird. I know the pics on the internet of the house for sale dont show it, but ya, it was already done!!!
Drywall guy is finishing the tv area today, going to start the kitchen part tomorrow and the bathroom as soon as i get it done. Probably monday
Quoted from MustangPaul:Your house burn down because of faulty wiring your insurance company and the city will ask to see your records of the permit.
Actually, that is incorrect. I talked to two different agents from different agencies, they both told me that there is no way an insurance company can deny a claim because permits weren't pulled. To quote one agent, "Insurance covers stupid".
I didn't pull permits, but I did pay a licensed electrician and a licensed plumber to stop by and inspect my work. I also had the electrician make the final connections in the breaker box.
They really just want you to pull permits so they can reassess your house and jack up your property taxes. Eff them.

It looks great. My drywall guy is doing the finish sanding today and will be all done this afternoon. I picked up 10g of PVA primer from Sherwin Williams on the recommendation of my brother in law who is a painter by trade. I guess I'll be paining this weekend.

Well so much for my source.
Ill be painting as well this weekend. My guy has another week before hes done with one section, but i can paint two thirds of it and move the games to paint the em room. On a recommendation from my drywaller to save money i picked up ceiling paint to use as a primer, but i think im going to go with a real primer instead. Once i get the tv area painted ill install the baseboard and electric, put everything in there and seal it while i paint the rest. Sure wish i didnt have to wait on carpet!!
