Quoted from amkoepfer:Just got off the phone with my drywall finisher. Hes a friend of the family, and hes charging 20 an hour to finish it. Any guesses on how long itll take to finish the em room? Im only doing that room for now, until i get the rest drywalled.
Easy 12 hours. Assuming 2-3 coats and some sanding. Heck just getting set up and cleaned up takes 1 hour per session.
9 hours or so so far. Texture on friday. Then hes moving on to the next part. Im trying to get drywall done in front of the finisher. Getting hectic but getting done! These pics are from yesterday. More has been done since
Joint tape. Not the mesh. And it is unfortunately not my work. I hired someone to do it. Its pretty quick when hes going so i have to get working faster to stay ahead of him
Looking great!
Curious about the size of the finished pillars. They look rather hefty. Was that a design decision? I presume you figured in the positions of your pinball machines, present and future so no issue with interference.
You could add some storage/display nooks into those.
They are definately hefty! Its to match the 2 posts together. They werent even with eachother so i built them out a bit to make them even. I think i can fit 3 machines in between them, and ill put artwork or something on them. Had to sacrifice a bit on how big they were just to make it look right!

Ahh, I see the dilemma. Good solution - I would never be able to unsee the asymmetry!
Same here. It would bother me to no end. The other post in the main room is 12x12 so a little smaller, but i needed electrical in there and im not a great framer! In my long stretch of the room i have a light that is centered with the em room all the way on the other side of the basement, but it makes it uncentered on that side. I didnt think of it until it was too late, and that will bother me until the day i die now!

I am terribly OCD on symmetry. We must be related!
Wish I could find a home with this much basement space in our area. That has basement Access via Garage...
The garage access sold the house for me. I must be obsessed. Ive now bought a house and car around my pinball addiction. I would have named my son outlane if my wife would have let me!
Quoted from heni1977:one quick ? did you use the drywall joint tape or the fiberglass mesh tape?
Professionals use cheap paper tape while DYI'ers, like myself, use the fiberglass mesh tape. I wouldn't have it any other way. I love working with that stuff.
.
Quoted from amkoepfer:Em room is textured. 270 dollars for finish and texture. Not too bad
you got a good deal
That room is gonna light up like a Xmas tree! Sweet. Staying tuned for more ems. Maybe a woodrail or two?
3 ems so far. My eventual goal is 6 or 7. I am getting a flipperless woodrail from a guy at work as well. Its getting there!
Drywall first, then paint and flooring. I had to move all games into the small area thats finished so i could do the rest of the drywall. I didnt want to paint first and then put them in there in case dust does get in and sticks to paint. It is more work since i already had the games down there before i started the project. Itll get there!
I have wed thurs and friday to work on it, im hoping to have the room that the games were originally sealed up in done with drywall. I have a water and gas line running in between the last joists with no blocking so i am not sure how i am going to get drywall blocking in place, but ill find a way.
This is really lookin' great, amkoepfer! Just stopped by to catch-up and check-out your progress since my last lurking. It's really come a long way!
Also wanted to send-out a great guy alert for amkoepfer. He delivered a part to me at the VFW show this past weekend (and evidently picked up a couple of EM's) at the VFW show, despite not knowing me from Adam. Thanks so much for taking your time to do that, amkoepfer! It was really nice meeting you in person.
All the best with finishing your basement. Looks like it's close!
Sincerely,
Ryan
Andy, Your basement looks huge compared to mine but it's not really as mine took 125 sheets and I have a small brick wall and stone wall. I think it might be from having so many rooms. Greetings from Kings Island. Jim Copeland
Ya, they are probably similar in size, im at 90 sheets hung so far, with probably 30 or 40 more to go, but some of that is inside closets and the bathroom
Quoted from amkoepfer:I started moving everything into the em room so i can seal that part up to finish the rest, and i couldnt help myself, i had to put the new games together. Thanks bob for aquarius and tom for sing along!
Quoted from SirScott:I fixed your picture for you:
Hilarious. ...it even has a lockdown bar now!
Quoted from amkoepfer:Done for the night
Nice work. You can DO IT!!!
Good thing you got that drywall jack! you would not be able to lift your arms for a year with all the drywall on that ceiling!!!
Nice. I still have to convince the wife, come up with floorplan, and figure out where to put my games while I do all this work!. Maybe I should just buy another house do renovations and move in....
