    It’s official!!!!

YEGPIN: 2020 Pinball and Arcade Expo will take place May 1-3, 2020 at the Millennium Place in Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada

-This is our 5th year anniversary of the expo, it is the only show in Alberta, but one of the biggest and best shows in Canada!!!
-We had just over 175 machines at the facility last year and have space to have over 200 pinball and arcade games in the new facility.
-6 pinball tournaments, 5 IFPA sanctioned events including our premier events the Canadian Pinball Championship and Women's Canadian Pinball Championship.
-Full streaming of the main, womens, classics, high stakes, and youth pinball tournaments.
-New and improved professional tournament setup with bleachers for competitors and spectators.
-Last year we gave just under $24,000 in cash and prizes making this one of most lucrative tournaments in the country.
-YEGPIN draws over 1,500 competitors, collectors, families and general enthusiasts of classic pinball and arcade games!!!
-Huge support from national and local pinball and arcade vendors and many sponsors that help support the event!
-Help support the show by bringing a pinball machine and win new pinball machine at the show!
-A full licensed area with a huge selection of beverages for the entire weekend.
-Modern, air conditioned recreational center, family friendly with a state of the art swimming pool facilities, fitness center, indoor track, food court area, etc
-Excellent accommodation and rates and many choices of restaurants within blocks of the main facility.

More details are coming, we just wanted to give everyone a heads up early as our dates have changed from last year.

Pre-Ticket sales for VIP and Weekend Passes will be on December 15, 2019. Lookout for a re-launch of our website in the coming months.

This was our plan last year we just forgot to hit the record button. It took a ton of work just to get the stream going as we were not able to utilize the wireless rig due to the interference in the facility. Aeonblack did an incredible job getting it together just so that we could get the stream going, we then forgot to hit the record button due to all the technical difficulties and craziness and the rest is history. We will have more time to plan and now know the limitations of facility so we will be better prepared and might have even a few more surprises for those who are watching in person .

So the plan is to record and stream:

Friday - CPC (Canadian Pinball Championships) - Night Qualifying Day 1
Saurday - Pro Pinball Championship Playoffs - Semi Finals (if necessary), Finals
Saturday - Classics Playoffs - Quarter Finals, Semi's and Finals
Little Flippin Pinball Tournament (LFPT) Playoffs - Finals
CPC - Round of 24, Quarter Finals, Semi's and Finals
    WCPC - Finals

Provided we have the volunteers the event the following tournaments will be fully commentated with some of the best sights and sounds from top level competitors.

    Quoted from spinal:

One suggestion I have for 2020 is to record for youtube the entire competitive stream (or at least finals).
This year I was so looking forward to watching after the show ended but found out afterward it wasn’t considered.
We are so proud to have such a high level of competitors attend and recording on youtube is also a great advertising for YEGPIN to grow the show.
Either way, it’s a fantastic show but I think there is no reason why YEGPIN can’t become one of the greatest competitions in North America and moving toward pro-level, recorded competitive streaming in the future (like Pinburgh) will be key.

We don't really approach our sponsors till the fall, once we know who is confirmed we will let you know.

    Quoted from nightsearcher:

Is Nitro still going to be a main sponsor? I sure hope so, they have been Awesome to Western Canada in the past. Or will Absolute Pinball step in??

Holy cow that machine was in pretty rough shape, looks awesome you did an excellent job on that restore!!! Would love to see that at the show and put it a Classics tournament bank!!!

    Quoted from dabomb1:

For sure. Just don't know which pins. I finished the Super Sonic I got off you 2 years ago. Put a lot of work into it.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I just want to bring this to light, that Clarion will not be a preferred hotel for YEGPIN this year. We had many complaints about the hotel and worse off we had a sponsorship agreement that they re-nagged on at the last minute and cost our show over $600. I understand the convenience for people and totally understand if people go that route. I am just letting you all know the reason why we are not affiliated nor ever will be with that organization.

    Quoted from blowback1976:

Room booked at the Clarion, loved the tunnel of death connecting the venues.

    #42 4 years ago

It states in the first post or feel free to visit our website www.yegpin.com, that the event is going to be held once again at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park, hope you are able to make it out.

For those that would be interested to visit Arkadium Retro Arcade that week, you will be disappointed in that YEGPIN has made a sponsorship deal with Arkadium Retro Arcade to use around 65 machines to support our event so the facility will be closed all that week.

    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Cool that the show is still going on! Is it being held at the same location as last year, the new Arkadium or somewhere else?

    #43 4 years ago

I want to clarify the post above about the announcement of Nitro Pinball not attending the show this year. I didn't want to make a spectacle out of this but it seems that our announcement may have been taken out of context by various groups.

I want to reinforce that Nitro Pinball has been a huge supporter of pinball across Canada for many years and has been a excellent partner for the past number of years at our show in particular. This was is in no way a statement from our group to put a negative light on the organization, they continue to be a great vendor for the pinball community and have our support for all of the good things that are doing for pinball.

The decision was a very difficult one for our organization as we have a vision and mandate to promote pinball and make sure our show is as inclusive as possible to everyone that attends. There were actions and responses this past year by Nitro Pinball that went against this mandate and it was determined by our membership that it was serious enough that a subset or certain groups would be affected by their inclusion of the event this year. We are not a political party with an agenda here, we are simple pinball and arcade enthusiasts just trying to increase awareness into the hobby, promote competition pinball and put on a great show for as many as people as possible to attend.

In my opinion and mine alone that the actions this past year don't warrant a life sentence here and my hope that all of as a community we can move on now. I hope that the Nitro is given a chance to be back at shows (if they choose) and that maybe this is a catalyst to finally end the negativity around a situation that happened a number of months ago. There have been true consequences for what I would call indiscretions and poor judgement and now it is time move on. The organization has paid the price between all of the negative comments in forums and exclusion from sponsoring certain events. I believe it is now time for all of us to get back to what we are all here to do and this enjoy this great hobby of ours.

I am removing all references to whom is not going to be at the show, in respect to a vendor that has treated us with nothing but kindness over the years. It seems that a subset of people have been using it as a platform to continue to shed a negative light on the situation and that was never our intent or the reason for posting it in the first place. The reason we announced this was out of respect for the people that come to our show every year validation that Nitro was not going to be at the show this year, that is all!!!

Thanks again for all of the massive support I have personally have received since our announcement and I hope to see you all the show later next year!!!

Only two days until ticket sales for the YEGPIN - 2020 Pinball and Arcade Expo held at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park, Alberta. We have been recently been given confirmation that the YEGPIN - Canadian Pinball Championships will be on the Stern Pro Circuit for next year. This is incredible news as our tournament will be the only tournament in Canada with this designation. Expect to see more top players come out from all over Canada and North America. What this also means there might be even more uptake on the VIP passes for this year, so please don't miss out on them and if you want the full package to the show then make sure you get your tickets early. Pretty impressive that after 5 years our small local show and tournament is now considered one of the top 20 in North America.

That is correct, we extended out the women’s and Pro Pinball Tournament due to demand of those tournaments so if you want the party experience Friday night is your night. Saturday can party but won’t be full music and stuff like the VIP party.

    Quoted from toasterman04:

Work booked off cant wait!! Wife notified she has the kids herself all weekend. Gotta remember when there to get a sermon at St. Petes!!
Is there no Retro arcade VIP party on the Saturday?

The short answer is yes, the long answer is we try to maintain the following slope ratings on all of our games as follows:

    Modern: 7.5 - 8.0
    Solid States: 7.0 - 7.5
    EM: 6.5 - 7.0

There are occasions where it makes sense to physically increase the height of the machine. Games with too short of legs that cannot be increased or machines that need further help to meet our standards. All of this is in an effort to give a consistent play across machines. Increase the slope can make the machine harder or easier depending on the specific title. More of a concern for hardness would be the sensitive slings, reducing of multiball ball save timers, no ball saves, changing of flippers to lightning flippers and open or advanced outlanes.

    Enjoy!!!!

    Quoted from yellowghost:

Is that same tournement with 2x6s under the legs to make the games more enjoyable to play?

    Some updates on the show:

    - We are almost 90% sold for YEGPIN VIP tickets, only have 18 left (6 Hardcore & 12 Ultimate VIP tickets).

    https://www.yegpin.com/product-category/all_items/

    - There are currently 169 competitors (VIP, Full-Time Volunteers, Donors) registered for the Canadian Pinball Championships and Classics Tournament.

    https://www.yegpin.com/tournament-participants/

    - We have 92 pinball machines and 28 arcade games so far donated for the weekend and we still have another three months to acquire many more!!!! If you would like to bring a game to the event please use the following link:

    https://www.yegpin.com/bring-a-game/

    - We have received a number of great donations of goods from pinball companies and local companies for our silent auction prizes

    - We have our art finalized and are close to printing all of the shirts, hoodies, passes, lanyards and other goodies for the show.

    Please note:

    #82 4 years ago

The great thing about YEGPIN tournaments is that they are truly for all skill levels so it doesn't matter if you think you suck you can actually have a chance for the playoffs in your skill level.

We have trophies, plaques and cash for each division (Main, B and Novice) for the Canadian Pinball Championship and Classics Pinball Tournament.

    To answer your question:

In the Main, the top 24 overall qualify. Then we take the next best 8 that have an IFPA ranking of 1000 or higher for B Division, then we take the next four that have an IFPA ranking of 2500 or higher for Novice. There is no restrictions in that if you play really well you can qualify for the main, however, you have extra chances to qualify for trophies, plaques and cash if you qualify in the lower divisions instead.

In the Classics, it is the same except that the top 16 advance (unless we reach over 160 participants which we may very well do).

    Quoted from northerndude:

""Top 16 scores will qualify for main draw. The next 4 scores will qualify for B Division (must be at least 1000 or greater in IFPA ranking to qualify). The next 4 will qualify for Novice Division (must be at least 2500 or greater in IFPA ranking to qualify)""

We have updated the website again thanks to a collector and vendor community for supporting this event the lineup for the show is simply outstanding so far.

If you are on the fence to donate don't hesitate bring your machine to the show and share it with the community for the weekend!!!

A reminder that we are one of the only show that offers the collector community a chance to win your very own pinball machine valued at close to $8000!!! It is also a great way to get into the show for free!!!

As of right now there are a total of 132 entries to win the NIB pinball machine that will be announced on the Friday night.

    You get:

1 entry for a EM/Solid State pinball machine
    2 entries for a Modern/LCD pinball machine
3 entries for Premium or LE pinball machines

1 extra entry is you deliver and pickup your machine
1 extra entry if we use it in any of our pinball tournaments.

So for certain machines you can get up to 5 entries per machine!!!!

If you would like to donate your machine for the event please use the following form.

Tickets sales have been fast and furious over the past couple of days, there are only 10 VIP tickets in total left for this event, there are a total of 189 people registered (VIP's, Volunteers and Donors) for the Canadian Pinball Championship and Classic Pinball Tournament which I believe would make this the biggest tournament ever held in Canada. Be a part of Canadian pinball history and ensure you get your VIP ticket for the show!!!

Once these VIP tickets are sold out there will be no more, however, you will still be able to purchase a weekend pass online or day tickets at the door.

Unfortunately due to lack of demand for our posters we will not be printing them this year. We will have excess supply of previous years one for purchase thou.

    Quoted from Twilight1:

Those posters look awesome. I’m hoping I can buy one this year.

    #121 4 years ago

First of all it is really nice to see the enthusiasm for the event and nice to see that some people do value the extras we do like the authentic prints from our artist each year. It is unfortunate that we have had low uptake on these prints as I believe they are fantastic quality and value. I will see what I can do, to do a small run of these but no promises. We have a lot to accomplish before the show and this is not the highest on our priority list.

    #123 4 years ago

This is one of the many reasons on why I love running YEGPIN, so many great collectors that love to bring the best in their collections to grow the hobby.

    You sir are awesome!!!!

    Quoted from Westbury:

Is anyone bringing a Rick and Morty? i'd be open to bring mine since i'll be in town for the Rage concert!

    #133 4 years ago

Our posters have arrived so you will start seeing them around town.

Also here is a sneak peak on the lanyard and passes if you bought a VIP pass.

I think we really knocked it our of the park this year.

I can put some up at the casino, Pinbar, and others for you guys.
    Just send them down.

All of these acts must have known YEGPIN was going on and wanted to work it into their schedule lol...

    Quoted from jesperpark:

Are all these concerts here because of Yegpin? I would claim that's the reason
Maybe I don't pay attention enough, but seems busier than normal for concerts in Edmonton

I think we all have concerns right now, I have a meeting next week with Millennium Place to discuss what all of the other events are doing right now. Do they have concerns and do they have sanitizer stations and stuff setup as extra precautions. We can’t ignore what is going on in the outside world right now and we will do everything we can to pull the show off. When we know you will know but we are trying to do everything possible to put on the show. We have everything ready to order and will be ready to go as long as the facility allows us to hold it.

    #169 4 years ago

My role is to keep you all informed. Our province has just issued the following statement.

    New public health restrictions

Alberta is asking organizers to cancel any events that have more than 250 attendees. This includes large sporting events, conferences and community events. It does not extend to places of worship, grocery stores, airports or shopping centres. Any event that has more than 50 attendees and expects to have international participants, or involves critical infrastructure staff, seniors, or other high-risk populations should also be cancelled.
Events that do not meet these criteria can proceed, but risk mitigation must be in place, such as sanitizer stations and distancing between attendees.
At this time, schools and daycares can remain open but steps should be taken to ensure that no more than 250 individuals are in the same room at any given time. Travel outside of the country is not being recommended at this time. Given the rapid global spread of the virus, it is no longer possible to assess health risks for the duration of the trip.

There will be an official announcement from us next week on the status of the show.

There is no timetable will more than likely depend on the seriousness of the situation and if the city can get this under control.

    Quoted from toasterman04:

Does it state how long the ban is for?

    #177 4 years ago

“As of March 14, all Strathcona County indoor recreation facilities are closed to the public until April 14, 2020. This proactive measure supports Alberta Health’s priority to limit larger social gatherings in our community. For more information, visit strathcona.ca/covid19”

Our facility that hosts the event is now closed indefinitely. Again we should have an announcement by the end of the week on the status of the show this year.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to announce that the YEGPIN: 2020 Pinball and Arcade Expo scheduled for May 1-3, 2020 is officially cancelled.

This decision has weighed on the minds of team for several weeks now.

We held out as long as we could but have now succumbed to the fact that we simply cannot proceed with the show this year for the following reasons:

    · The World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 virus a global pandemic;

    · The Government of Alberta has declared a public health emergency in the province;

    · The venue has closed its doors indefinitely, with no open or future date availability;

    · Our event insurance wasn’t going to be covered in the event of any COVID-19 liability;

    · We not could ensure the protection, safety and security of our volunteers and guests on the scheduled dates of the event

We cannot put into words how devastating this announcement is to our team, volunteers, donors, vendors, sponsors, VIP's and the general public that have supported us and helped shaped our show to what it is today.

YEGPIN is a nine month commitment for our executive team and I want to personally thank them for all of the sacrifices throughout the year as their commitment never wavered in making sure that we delivered another world class show for our participants.

Unfortunately, with this announcement comes significant cost to our show, we will be immediately refunding all purchases for VIP and weekend passes please be patient with this process as we will be individually emailing all participants. Thankfully, the Die Hard Pinball League has be prudent as a non-profit society and has the reserve funding to be able to withstand our losses for this year’s show.

Thank you for reaching out in regards to helping out, but our preference not hold commitments for 2021 and we will be processing a refund for those whom have purchased tickets. For those that would like to contribute or support the event further those options will be stated in the email you receive and we appreciate your support.

We have never been about Go Fund Me campaigns, we have always done things on our own, have been self funded, used homegrown resources all of these years and that will never change!!! All that we ask is that you consider coming back to a future show and continue to support location pinball and arcade in your local cities as they will need it more than ever to survive!!!

As for a future event, we are uncommitted right now, but it is our intent to try to push forward in some capacity and deliver another world class show in the future. We want to thank all of you that have reached out to us, all of you that have had kind words and have had sympathy for our situation.

We apologize for the inconvenience, to all of those that committed from across the province, across Canada and internationally to come and visit our show and hope this does not detour you from coming back again.

    Thanks again for your support,

We were lucky in that we are able to stop the presses on most of our stuff which has helped in reducing our losses. We do have a ton of advertising postcards and posters that are essentially useless to us now. I was thinking I would include them in the VIP Ultimate packages in future if we have an event as a keepsake for the show that never happened, but we will see.

    Quoted from sixtyfourbits:

Very understandable. A big thank-you to everyone who has already put in so much hard work towards this event.
I'm not sure how far things have gotten, but if you have already printed flyers/posters, lanyards, etc. I would be interested in buying one of each to still help support the yegpin group and help them recoup a bit of costs. If these things haven't been produced yet though, please disregard.

Today is truly a sad day for me personally and all of the organizers, volunteers, vendors, donors and sponsors of YEGPIN. Reality has finally sunk in and all of the work that we put in to put on a world class pinball and arcade show was lost this year. Today we should be getting ready to open the doors and showing the public how great our hobby is. We should be promoting how awesome and fun competition pinball is, we should be seeing old friends, and making connections with new ones and most of all we should be celebrating how great it is to be a part of the hobby.

I am totally gutted for our entire community and this is going to sting for a long time. Just wanted you all to know that I am right there with you all and hope that the world is in a much different place come this time next year. Thanks to everyone who was patient with all of the refunds, we have always tried to do things the right way and hopefully that was the experience for you. I can tell you that we do have plans for next year, but nothing will be formally announced until we are 100% sure the world is ready for these kind of events again.

Take care everyone, stay safe, and lets all hope we can all put this behind us.

Better yet we all finished in a tie with the best player in the world Raymond Davidson. Personally thou I would have rather been beat.

    Quoted from Dee-Bow:

Did I finish in a tie with Derek at yegpin 2020?! If this is technically correct..can i buy it on next year's t-shirt!?!
