Wouldn't it be better to have some info on the website, like past shows or something more then check back in December?

    #9 5 years ago

I don't disagree, but there are a ton of changes that need to be made on the site especially since we have moved the show to a new area. We are hopeful to have the site up and running before December 15, 2018, however, in the meantime we will be providing little tidbits and leaks about the show up and to the start of ticket sales on December 15. Stay tuned!!!!

When will hotel discounts be announced?

    #11 5 years ago

In negotiations, these will be posted on site when ready to go. Two things I can guarantee you they will be closer to event and they will be cheaper then the Chateau. Planning to have 2 preferred hotels so there should be plenty of space for everyone who is coming out of town.

We are getting close to opening up tickets sales to the masses for YEGPIN 2019 - Edmonton Pinball and Arcade Expo. This year's show is in a brand new location Millennium Place in Sherwood Park. The dates will be April 26 - 28, 2019. And now we are ready to announce the ticket packages that will be available for purchase on December 15, 2018 @ noon MST.

Before I do, I just wanted to let you know that we did do a small survey to get feedback from last year and they were so many positives so I thank you all for your support of the show. However, we have made some small changes to our VIP packages that hope will fit for all people who want them. So without further ado this is what the packages will look like this year.

Ultimate VIP Pass - $150: (Some people want all the goods, okay we now have a package for you).

All VIP passes (Ultimate/VIP) will be limited to 125 orders in total. Sorry that is the maximum we can sell as our tournaments and VIP party can only handle so many people.

NEW this year!!!!: Our tournaments will be capped at 200 entrants. Those who pre-purchase a pass (Ultimate/VIP/Weekend pass) or volunteer for YEGPIN this year then will have first priority for registration for YEGPIN Canadian Pinball Championships or Classic Tournament. Sorry but the tournament pinball community has grown so much and in order to put on a good tournament for everyone we have to cap the entrants this year so please do not hesitate to purchase your VIP pass, volunteer or donate a machine this year if you want to guarantee access to these signature tournaments.

You will still have access to the Knockout Cancer Pinball Tournament and High Stakes Pinball Tournament as those will be events you will register for upon your entry into the show, those events will be capped at 80 players. No pre-registration for those tournaments is available. Note: If you purchase a VIP pass you will be able to register for those tournaments early as you get 1 hour early access with your ticket.

As detailed above, there will be 4 IFPA sanctioned pinball tournaments on this weekend (I know how the heck are we going to get them all in!!!). Stay tuned we will be leaking information on all of these tournaments in the coming weeks. All of the information will be on the website as soon as it is promoted. We are hoping by the end of the month to have it ready with all show info, tournament, lodging and ticketing information.

Estimating that there will be around 125 pinball and 75 arcade machines available to play at the event. This will make this YEGPIN as the biggest show we have ever put on!!!! Tickets will also be sold at the door for those who just want to stop by and play the many machine titles in the free play/vendor areas. Tickets are $20 Friday, $25 Saturday and $20 Sunday, those that are 12 or under get in FREE with a paid adult admission.

There are so many cool things to announce over the next month in half so I won't divulge everything right now. Just wanted you all to mark down December 15th on your calendar as the VIP tickets for this event could go quickly this year!!!

    Awesome new venue - congrats!

    Improvement tip for next year...

Last year, when first entering show, there was almost an entire row of arcade games that either didn't have credits or couldn’t be played for some reason. I watched many families come in and go from game to game to game with bewilderment and then frustration. Kids not having fun.

So my tip is simply that if a game cannot be played, turn it off as it ends up being a negative experience having it in the room where as having it off is just neutral. Next, if someone is not regularly watching the games and adding credits or staff/helpers can’t add credits, then also just turn the game off or don’t even bring to show. Last year I woukd go back and hour later and then another hour after that and nothing changed. Told helpers/staff and nothing as well. Love yegpin and want it to be more and more successful so just passing on my viewpoint to make it better.

    #38 5 years ago

Yep appreciate the feedback, we are doing our best this year to only accept classic arcades that have a free play setting on them to help with this. At the same time we hate to deny collectors to bring their machines that they donate but it is really a struggle for us to keep adding credits to arcades so we have been upfront with our collectors this year to try to install free play mechs in their machines.

    Quoted from spinal:

OK that’s great to hear! Thanks for understanding that unplayable games or games that allow only some credits and then sit unplayable for long periods of time don’t add anything to the show. And EM pinballs are generally easy to make freeplay so not sure why those have been previously allowed. By unplayable I should also add pinballs that are totally trashed and generally not working with many mechs broken (this is not how we should represent our awesome hobby to the piblic).

Main point is that there is no reason to allow unplayable games. Denying collectors from bringing in these games is a sign of acknowledging that the ***entire point*** of having a show like this is that they are playable (for collectors too!).

Of course I’m not talking at all about games that breakdown during show - that’s unavoidable).

And this is simple to implement, simply test games when first set up at show and if they are unplayable, ask the collector to take them off the floor and perks go too.

To grow a show to the general public, the perspective of the public should come first and so games must be playable. And we should really question why some collectors would even want to defend bringing games that the public can’t enjoy. So don’t hate denying them like you say, we all know the many obvious reasons they are fine with it.

(sorry that I’m sounding ranty, I’m just one of those guys that care a lot about the public perception of this hobby so it can grow - again, love the show and looking forward to seeing the kids having fun again this year including my little one).

As a reminder ticket sales for YEGPIN will commence on December 15, 2018 at noon MST for Ultimate VIP, VIP and Weekend Passes for the event.

This year there is a small change in that only people that have purchased a Ultimate VIP ticket, VIP ticket, volunteer for the show or donate a machine can register for the Canadian Pinball Championships (CPC) or Classic Pinball Tournament.

For CPC and Classics there are 4 skill divisions for the playoff rounds. Main, B, Novice and Women's so these tournaments are for every skill level!!! There will be cash prizes and/or trophies and plaques for each division.

Note: There will be limited registration availability for the Knockout Cancer Pinball Tournament, Pro Pinball Tournament and Little Flippin Tournament during event days in case if you miss out on a VIP ticket.

So more than ever if you are thinking about playing in our signature pinball tournaments you will want to purchase one of our VIP passes for the weekend. Again, we would love to have unlimited registration for our pinball tournaments but with now over 300 people that participate in pinball tournaments all over Alberta we simply cannot meet demand.

The website will be promoted right at noon on December 15, 2018 so don't miss your chance at getting in on the action. On website launch we will also have our preferred hotels rates so make sure you book those quickly as we have only reserved 25 room at each venue.

Thanks for your support and hope to see you all at the event!!!!
