Just curious.....Seems to be a majority of newbies on pinside so I thought I would put up a poll for "How many Years have you been collecting Pinball machines".....

Please use the POLL, not looking for a huge long thread or people chiming in with "started collecting Video games, bla, bla, bla.... "

Just curious of how many here are old timers in the hobby ( 25 years for me )

#2 5 years ago

I just typed a post regarding my history in the hobby, then I read the original post again and decided to delete what I had written.

Quoted from Stu:

Ok, started a new poll, hope the mods Delete the previous thread......

#4 5 years ago

Only two years. First pin.. Firepower

#5 5 years ago

41 years now......I am getting old!, but not Pinball!

#6 5 years ago

Voted....10-20 years.

#7 5 years ago

22 years and I'm only 41... got my first pins as a gift from my dad for my first years at the university!

#8 5 years ago

Still a newbie but learning fast

#9 5 years ago

DAMN, i voted 1-5 years but completely forgot i won a Stern Wild Fyre at 14, so technically speaking scratch that vote and add one for 20-30 years

#10 5 years ago

There's no option for 30+ years (32 and counting for me), so I voted for the next closest, 20-30.

#11 5 years ago

I'm in year 8 or 9...

#12 5 years ago

it was around 20+ years ago I bought Road Kings and so ensued the avalanche of machines I own now. My only regret is not buying way more machines sooner. I should have started in the 80's not 90's lol
Cheers Stu!

A little more than two weeks now.

More than '4 score' there Odin.

#15 5 years ago

5 to 10 baby 10 and 5, no one here gets out alive.

#16 5 years ago

Bought my first game in December 1994, so I voted 10-to-20 years.
But next year I'll be in the 20-to-30 category.

#17 5 years ago

I agree that it seems to be mostly noobs on pinside. I am coming up on 9 years collecting.

#18 5 years ago
Quoted from Betelgeuse:

I agree that it seems to be mostly noobs on pinside.

Sometimes I wish I was a noob again. No joke. I miss a lot of that newbie excitement....
Lately it seems I've just become a cranky old phart.

#19 5 years ago

wow, lots of votes coming in....kewl, thanks guys.....

#20 5 years ago

Adding the first three categories together results in 68% being in the hobby for ten years or less. None of those people were in the hobby when B/W games were still being produced.

#21 5 years ago

It's fun searching names and seeing who was around back in the late 90s on rec.groups.pinball

#22 5 years ago

just about 1.5 years for me. I'm a noob!

been playing pinball forever, though.

#23 5 years ago

How about zero for zero machines?

#24 5 years ago

Surprised there aren't more 20-30 years folks like myself, maybe they didn't see the vote yet but I'm sure they are here.

#25 5 years ago

I'm in 14 years now.....but have really only been active for the last two or so.

#26 5 years ago

Sorry Stu, I could not vote in your poll

30+ years

#27 5 years ago

I bought my first machine (Fish Tales) exactly 5 years ago this month.

That means that I can vote in either 1-5 years or 5-10 years.

#28 5 years ago

Got my first game 16 years ago as a gift from my then girlfriend (now wife). I had started looking for a game a few years earlier but I still lived at my parents house and was told I couldn't have one there. Once I moved out, it was just weeks later that she scored me a game. I still have it. To this day I tell her all these games are her fault! She started it!

#29 5 years ago

LMFAO....Well Said!

Quoted from Gotpins:

all these games are her fault! She started it!

#30 5 years ago

Has it really been 16 years for me? Holy shit.

#31 5 years ago

started collecting Video games, blah, blah, blah....

Yep....we're here.

#33 5 years ago

1 year 4 months.

First game : NIB Tron Pro

While waiting for shipping I bought a Breakshot (traded one week later towards a Wheel of Fortune)

Quoted from Jeekayjay:

1 year 4 months. First game was a NIB Tron Pro. While waiting for shipping I bought a Breakshot (traded one week later towards a Wheel of Fortune).

None of which you have now. You already have 13 games on your previously owned list in just 16 months. Wow. That is so the opposite of me. I only buy games I intend to keep. I've had CFTBL for 20 years.

#35 5 years ago

Bought my first game ( Harlem Globetrotters ) on August 10th, 1996, so thats 18 years for me and I've owned 545 pins total ( not all at once ) and kept 72 of those. The HG would be the last game to leave when the time comes.

I've only been going at it hard the last 5+ years, and only personally owned for the last two and a half. Been addicted for about 30 years, though.

(I'm not counting the Bally Playboy my dad owned when I was 5 years old since I wasn't allowed to play it!)

#37 5 years ago
Quoted from radium:

started collecting Video games, blah, blah, blah....

i love these stories. just seems to speak to me about pinball's unique appeal.

#38 5 years ago

Got my first game back in 1983...so that's 31 years

Is it too late to add 31+ to the poll?

#39 5 years ago

WOW, 198 Votes so far.....kewl

#40 5 years ago

Voted 5-10 and early Pinsider

#41 5 years ago

Great poll. Got my first machine when I was fifteen. I'm thirty-four now. Only started amassing them at a feverish rate after I had a decent nest egg (with gameroom money set aside) and a place of my own...within the last six years or so.

5-10 here had to wait to get my "life" job before I started buying pins lol

#43 5 years ago

3 months owning and i'm about to buy my second! Last one before buying our house.

#44 5 years ago
Quoted from Dayhuff:

Same game,same month,but it was 2003.

Quoted from Dayhuff:The HG would be the last game to leave

I really wish I still had it.Hard to get one back like I had in Aus.

#45 5 years ago

I'd imagine more than a few of us didn't even realize that pin ownership was a possibility until recently. Just passed my 2 yr anniversary with Taxi.

#46 5 years ago

Well I started collecting video games...then moved on to pinball...oops...I mean blah,blah,blah....

Quoted from Hawk007:

#47 5 years ago

About 17 years, 500 pins (mostly DMDs). But I don't know half as much as some noobs think they know.

#48 5 years ago

Bought my first pin - Volcano - in 1997. I think I paid $200 for it in mint shape. Fun game.

#49 5 years ago

10 to 20 years for me! Got first Pin in 2000...but have been playing for way longer (met hubby in an arcade in the 80's)! Still have that pin but they are kinda like rabbits...they seem to multiply!! Once they are added, they seem to stay!! I don't buy em to flip em!! I buy em cause I want em and once I restore them it is hard for me to give them up!!
Long time RGPer before coming over here.

Phoebe

#50 5 years ago

In a few months it'll be 10 years that I've been collecting pins.

Quoted from Butterflygirl24:

Yep, same here. Seems like nearly all of us have migrated over here in the last few years....
