This is for a Firepower II. I don't really know what to look for, but it looks to me like it got extremely hot at some point. The back looks like it crinkled up aluminum foil in some spots and there are some definite charred spots. Sorry the pics aren't the best. I found a board on rottendog, but it doesn't look exactly like this one. Is this one repairable possibly? If not, where should I look for a replacement if the rottendog one won't work?

THANKS!!!

ok, so apparently you can't delete pics you accidentally post so kudos to the first person to guess where I went on vacation this past summer

That looks better than the one in my Barracora. What is it doing/not doing?

I don't even really know where to start on this thing. I got it for $50. The lights come on on the playfield, but I really don't get much past that. I was taking each board off and checking them out one at a time and I must say I got a bit discouraged when I got to this one. I haven't got to the power supply yet. That Barracora must be pretty bad

That's all normal. Nothing odd there at all.
Repair is straightforward.

Thanks for the advice I'll move on to the next board then

From your description, the game isn't booting. Does the 7-segment LED on the MPU do anything at power up?

I would do the power supply first. Make sure all voltages are good and connectors are tight before doing any other boards.

looks like someone reflowed some pins, but it doesn't look damaged or crossing traces (they could have cleaned out the flux). The aluminum foil looking backplane in the back is normal, every pcb that old is going to do that.

Mpu's can be hard to diagnose, it could be a bad rom, bad relay, bad cap, bad diode (though diodes are easy to check with even a basic MM).

*Edit: just realized you have a driver board, not an MPU. I would go through diagnostics and test the solenoids. If you aren't even getting to diagnostics, as others have said, check input voltages from the powerboard first, then then CPU.

That's pretty typical and very serviceable. Have no fear!

That board looks fine and very repairable. The interconnect probably needs replaced and i always replace the carbon 2w 27ohm lamp resistors with 5w cement ones.

Header pins are a pain on this era of williams boards. The male pins on the interconnector of the MPU are always cracked.d

That board just looks dirty from the normal heat generating parts. Heck, I'd almost call it mint condition.

Well since you have it out (even if it isn't the problem), it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and run through the components with a DMM. All those resistors cook the board. I've had to replace bad lamp circuit resistors as barakandl said because they were bad.
That interconnect connector looks to be lightly toasted. replace it.
If you can get ahold of the pinrepair guide, it gives good instructions on testing out all the various components. Can really save you some time once you get good voltage and get the mpu booting.

Thanks for all the advice. I have a Fluke now, so as soon as I get a chance, I'm gonna start checking out the boards again. Also, to Chris, the LED was showing 9 at first. I don't know what I did to change it, but it's not showing anything now. I think that it might have had something to do with the coin door or one of the RAM chips.
