Just looking for some advice from anybody who has one of these toppers or wiring experts. I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to wiring things in. I just got the awesome Extreme Pinball topper for BSD:

http://www.xtremepinball.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=182

Most mods I've gotten up until this point have some sort of connector on and then instructions on how to install, however this one has zip instructions and the end of the wiring looks like this:

All I've been told is that it needs to be 'wired into the main board' and requires a '12v power supply'. I was hoping somebody could give me any advice on how to wire this in and get it working! Or point me towards any guides/help threads if this has come up before.

Thanks!

Not much to go on. did you try contacting Extremepinball for at least some guidance or picture of suggested hook-up?

I have done that as well, the reply I got was:

Not done alot of them myself. you have 2 options. a) 12v mains powered supply that you can turn off and on. or b) tie it into a 12v supply points on your mainboards. I would suggest looking online to get the schematics on the boards to see where there is a 12v positive and negative tap on those boards. often its even written on the board.

So not much help to me. I've seen games with this installed so other people must have done it

See if J116/J117 are occupied .... there you find 12v and ground.
Get a molex connector and plug it on one of those.

When desperate .... put alligator clips on, and leech of test-points 12v and Ground. (first J116/J117 is preffered)

J116 is occupied by the colour DMD I think but I will have a look at J117. I will give it a go!

So after speaking to a more knowledgeable friend and in an odd coincidence he suggested a way to get this into the game which would make it easy. I accidentally got an order from him which was wrong for some LED strip mods, both this topper and the LED strips he sent me run off 12V and the LED strip mods he provides comes with a connector.

Upshot of it is I may be able to splice the connector he sent me in error with the wires from this topper which will connect to J117 and allow for easy removal/plug in to the game. I will likely not get round to doing this until the weekend but will post an update if it works, I'm hopeful though!

Sounds like a solid plan!
This will work, good luck

I'm marking this as solved, this is for the benefit of anyone else who orders one of these toppers. You will need a connector for J117 for this to work. One like this that allows you to put the original connector back in as well.

Step 1: Find out which wires are + and - on the topper (A 9v smoke alarm battery is fine to test this, just touch the wires onto the battery, it will only work on way round and the battery is marked + and - so you know which wire is which). Then get one of these little connector boxes and connect the wires:

Red is + and black is -. If it doesn't work just swap one set of the wires around. Next plug into J117 and if you have done it right, voila, working topper!

FYI the wires are also small enough to run through the grill no problems:

Hopefully this helps somebody in the future if they are hunting for this!

Hey everyone,
Easy way to install this topper is by getting a Williams power tap for J117. Easily plugs into the board, no hacks required. I put a couple photos to show you it in action. I purchased mine from DK Pinball, well worth the cost!
