Quoted from mdelorenzo:

Why do you think the game sucks?

He doesn't like it because the shot are tight and the Wolverine character gets in his way. Making the game to hard for him.

Oh yah....and he also sold it at a fire sale price. Loosing mucho money.

He has been a miserable hater ever since.

Quoted from eggbert52:

Most X-Men owners are like crazy radicals so most likely you'll never get the opinion you're looking for. Their "game" will never amount to a METLE or TRON.
The code could include a porn star coming to my door wanting to hang out all night for free. The game would still suck. Hence the reason you aren't seeing LEs above $5,200 unless the seller was dumb enough to put another $500 in mods to the game.
Look X-Men loyalists we get it, you love the game. But "most" of you are arbitrary little slugs looking to take pot shots on every single thread that points out that X-Men really isn't a very good game.
Time for you little kiddies to move on and get a better game. Unless you didn't mind your brother insulting your first ugly girlfriend then by all means keep the game.

Lesson learned.

Do not buy a expensive game unless you have played it first.

XMEN is the better game, but both these machines are missing the magic. They just don't have it.

Xmen is really hard,& Avengers really sucks. That is all.

We do a lot of things on Pinside. One thing we don't do? Insult another member directly.

Ok....how should I insult you indirectly? People that may or may not have egg in their name end up in a lot of xmen thread going on about how much the game sucks, sure do have a lot of time to waste on a game they claim to hate. Its sad when people just can't admit that they are unable to play a game well, because the game is above their skill level.....Oh well.

As a Magneto owner, I agree the game is missing some magic. That does not mean it is bad, but it is not stellar. I don't subscribe to the philosophy that every game I own is "the best game ever"

X MenLE is a decent game, and I enjoy playing it from time to time, but Stern games like ACDC Premium, Iron Man, and Metallica Master of Puppets are more captivating, generating more YES! I GOT IT! moments.

I find X Men LE intriguing to play and enjoy the shot patterns and the goals, particularly trying to get as many heroes started/collected before going into Magneto multiball. I like the changing lighting effects, and really am not as annoyed by the character sounds as some people seem to be. I like the Villain objectives.

The biggest thing to me is that there are no explosive crescendos in the game or anything that gets my adrenaline racing. It is sort of a monotone story.

As I stated in the X Men sound thread, it will be interesting to see how that pans out.

I didn't post on this question since I know nothing of the X-Men game but since people are posting their thoughts on one or the other, I thought I would give my $.02 on AVLE.

First, I and my wife absolutely love the Avengers series of movies, so the theme really calls out to us. When we are playing, she will play AVLE all night. Hard shots or not, she manages to thoroughly enjoy playing it and she is getting pretty good at it considering 6 months ago, she hit both flippers whenever the ball came close to them. Last night, she collected 5 of 6 Avengers on one game and was really pumped (and crushed when she couldn't quite collect BW). With the game set on easy, any level player can enjoy it and get multiball play.

Seeing as both games are close in price, both have lovers and haters on here, maybe you should consider theme as the deciding factor???

Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

AVLE now is IM in 2010. Only there are 600 fewer Avengers le's. In a few years it will be a hot game. In today's pinball climate, if you trip outta the gate your just screwed, and that's what happened with AVLE. But the game is very good and will earn the respect it deserves in time.

Haha...let it go, man....look, we like the game more than most people do - but it's never gonna get IM respect or demand. Neither is X-Men for that matter. Both are flawed in this way or that way. Much fun can be had - but those little irksome things are just there, ya know? A few little nitpicky things can keep a game from having that "classic magic".

Good LORD you're <edited> - did you even READ my entire post? The hell?!
I said VERY clearly that I hope someone who has played a lot of Avengers could weigh in and give their opinion!
E: And I even apologized in advance for my lack of knowledge on the game. I simply gave a few little anecdotes that I've either read or experienced. Hell, the ONLY suggestion I gave that was AGAINST Avengers was that if he wanted a deeper game, he should consider X-Men.

Dude, you devalued the game by a solid grand while admitting you don't really know what you're talking about in the same breath. Did you expect a pat on the ass and an "'Atta boy!"?

Perhaps a slight exaggeration on my part...It can go the other way, sure....but seriously, people HATED IM in 2010...and look at it now. There are 500 fewer AV LE's and the Avengers theme is pretty damn solid. If the same amount of newbs enter the hobby in the next few years as have since 2010...and if they like the theme and make up three own minds, well, I think alot of these people will like Avengers. The question is will they ever get to play it in good shape. IM was everywhere on route so was eventually able to convert people. People are going to have to play Avengers LE's in homes and at shows, which'll certainly impact exposure.

Good point, I don't have any pinsiders in my area code with an Avengers, there was not one at Allentown either so I may never get my hands on one.

I have to reiterate that some have said, IMO XMLE is a good game, not great. It's like Fantasy football, there are maybe 15-20 guys anyone in their right mind would love to own, but there are also plenty of *solid* players to fill out the rosters, XMLE is like the second or third round pick not the best but not bad.

Oh man, we need a fantasy pinball draft thread.... I will take hardbody with my first round selection

Quoted from pinballcorpse:

Spelling LOKI from the lower 4 lanes lights the locks for LOKI multiball. So keep hitting the left loop over and over and over, changing the letters as needed when the ball drops into the right return lane and work toward the locks. After a lock, when a ball is ejected into the shooter lane, short plunge, allow the ball to feed the right inlane and go back to work on the left loop. Good players can do this over and over as there is nothing but controlled shots.
To my knowledge, on the LE there is a crossover ramp so the technique is not exactly the same, but if there is a way to get the ball back on the right flipper easily, then it is a similar procedure.

Loki MB is fairly difficult to beat and not particularly high scoring at all....if this is your strategy on Avengers I'll slice you to ribbons.

MM is Peyton Manning they're both older than dirt but good.

Quoted from Rarehero:

I don't think X-Men is deep, either. It has a shitload of modes

I don't know what you would be looking for to consider a game deep, and I don't know what version of code you have played, but I think X-men is very, very, deep.

Varied Modes - lots (check) (you mentioned that, but you did not mention how the modes are really varied)
Wizard modes (check)
Lots of multiballs (check)
Combos (check)
Hidden objectives, and characters (check)

IMO, X-men has its faults, but code depth is not one of them.
