I separated mine when I painted them. Razor/Xacto slices it like butter. There are air bubbles in there though depending on your figure, gotta watch out.

Mutton: would love to see pics of the separated claws! Was thinking about this as well but wasn't sure how it'd turn out.

Sorry, didn't see this. Here's some pics I have available, not sure you can really tell they are separated all that much really as the blades are formed straight and parallel.
