The switch is installed backwards. That arm on the pawl is supposed to open the switch when th plunger pulls down.

Well, at least you wired it up right.

Edit:
Just realized, that doesn't look like the right switch.
There should be three blades. two long blades (only one with a contact point) and the long one with a contact point should have a plastic stand-off between the two longest blades:
