Well I thought I would join the club, if that is alright. I picked up a project Xenon a few months ago and have started to look it over and trying to come up with a game plan to get it up and running and refurbished.

I will post some before pictures when I can, and try to keep everyone posted on my progress. This will be my 4th Bally game that I have torn apart and redone. I am considering doing a somewhat more up to date, and dramatic color change on the cabinet. Not a big fan of the black, so we'll see...

Anyway keep you posted and may need some help as I find things that do not work.

#169 5 years ago

I don't know I just went ahead and posted that to see what would happen

I don't know if there's some secret pledge or hand shake you have to do. Maybe just owning the game is good enough

#170 5 years ago

My game does not play yet I was going to take an mpu for my Flash Gordon and put it in my Xenon just to see if it would light up but I'm not sure if that would work. If anybody has on any thoughts on that let me know

#173 5 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

Don't hook up anything to the game until you verify that the power supply board is putting out the correct voltages

Sounds good. I am waiting on a new board from Marco the original had problems kept blowing the F2 fuse. I did some checks and the diodes were gone. Not sure what is up with that. So I'll keep you posted Thanks

#175 5 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

Would F2 blow if everything is unplugged from the board?

No leds and I'll check on the fuse and get back to you.

#176 5 years ago

With only J5 and J6 hooked up it blew when power is turned on.

#178 5 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

Replace the 4 diodes in the high voltage section of the board.

Yeah those are the ones I tested that came out as bad. My problem is... I am not very good at soldering boards like this. That's why I just decided to order another board.

I know what your thinking "learn how to do it" and I will at some point. Maybe when the new board comes I can use the old one as a guinea pig and see if I can change those out.

I sure appreciate the help, thanks!

#179 5 years ago

Is there something that could have caused those to go bad other than age that I can check for??

#181 5 years ago

Well I got my new board from Marco. Installed and no blown fuses. So that's a good thing. I only hooked up the 2 transformer leads, and voltages are as follows

Tp1 7.95
Tp2 156
Tp3 12.8
Tp4 6.8
Tp5 45.9

So I am thinking that all looks good?? Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

#183 5 years ago
Quoted from vid1900:

Now connect only the Solenoid Driver board, and check the voltages on that board.

Awesome I'll work on that tomorrow

Here's the manual

Hey thanks but I already have it copied so I have been going over it.

I’m also still in the lookout for a left sling plastics if there are any out there

If this is the one you want let me know.

Progress update...

I stuck an Alltek MPU in the game and it lights up. Got all the correct flashes on the MPU. So that's all good, and I am happy

Was able to do a coin door test with the button only once, and then it did not want to work after that. So I used the test button on the Mpu to continue the checks. Solenoids fired, all lights that were working flashed, 1 scoreboard does not work. And no sound at all. I checked both volume pots and the one on the door and I could get some humming as the lights flashed but no voice or music. Not happy about that.

Also could not get a game to start with Mpu set on freeplay or not. I could get games to show up on the credit/ball in play scoreboard but it will not start a game.

So a couple of questions...does the game use more than one ball, I have never played the game so I do not know. I thought maybe I did not have enough balls to start the game, so I put 2 in and still no start. Any thoughts?? Would like to at least get the game playing before I start tearing it all a part for paint and refurbishment.

And then on the music and voice..I am not even sure what to check on that. So any advice would be appreciated as well. Thanks!

Quoted from vid1900:

There is a button on the sound card, press it and it will run through all the

Ok Tried that nothing

Quoted from bobukcat:

Yes, it uses two balls.

Yup I figured that out. Actually I got the game to play. It's kind of funny but with no sound I did not realize that it was racking up points on the scoreboards or even started for that matter. I was so busy looking at other things that I never looked up to see that it was scoring.

A lot of the pin connectors need replaced. which I think was part of the reason why it would not start. As far as the sound...I'll keep looking.

Is the switch closed or getting stuck ?

Well I was able to verify that the game will play...so the tear down begins. Definitely needs some attention.

I'll keep you posted. I will have a couple of project playfields for sale if anyone is interested

Made some progress on my game in the past couple of days. Cleaned the bottom of cabinet, repaired the bad and busted area in the back cabinet fiberboard or whatever they call it.

Cleaned up the coin box plate and replace some of the wood for that, and cleaned up the transformer/rectifier plate. Looks better than it did. I'll post more as I get to it.

Tim

Decided to start a new post on the makeover of my Xenon, rather than clog this one up. If you are interested here is the link:

Make sure both balls are in the trough. Game will not start without them. Sometimes the switches in the ball trough need adjusting as well.

#319 4 years ago

Have the plug in connectors at the mpu been worked on after the Alltec board was installed? If not I would look into replacing those.

Quoted from InfiniteLives:

Connectors are all good

They were changed out??

How many flashes of the Greenlight are you getting off your mpu
