I'm trying to resurrect a 1983 Bally X's & O's that sat for a while before I got it and would appreciate any advice on what to look for next as I'm getting stuck with my limited knowledge. Original mpu had minor corrision and all I got on power up was GI lights and displays occasionally showing garbled numbers. What I've done so far is replace the line cord (original had ground prong removed) and added a new MPU and Driver board from nvram.weebly. Also replaced one female connector because the original wouldn't fit on the new mpu.

Since adding the new mpu the displays came back fine and the game will boot into attract mode and I can go through the tests. All coils fire and I don't see any stuck switches in test. If I press the start button the knocker fires once and it will subtract a credit and seems to go into a game but I don't get game sounds and the ball is never ejected to the shooter lane. If I remove the ball from the trough by hand it causes the game to reset so that's as far as I'm able to get. Also I've had the game reset when just activating the flippers so it seems more than one thing is causing it to reset. In addition I've found that when in a game, activating either the slam tilt switch or tilt bob causes a pop bumper to fire. Side note, on power up the lower pop bumper pulls in once like it's being activated, not sure what is causing that.

I've found a few cut capacitors on stand up targets I'll start replacing next but not sure if that will help much with these issues. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

Are my eyes deceiving me that you have the 8 game select DIP switches (above the 40 pin chip with the silver label) on the MPU board all set to Off? If yes, those switches tell the MPU board what game you are trying to run and need to be set accordingly, i.e. for X's and O's:
DSW1 -------------------- DSW8
On, On, Off, Off, Off, Off, Off, Off

Quoted from Quench:

You just saved the day! Wow I can't believe I didn't notice that, I incorrectly assumed that the board was already set up for this game when I ordered. I just changed those dip switches and it made all the difference. Sounds, lights, most everything seems to be working now. After lots of wild goose chasing I can now play a game! I was so glad to see all these problems magically disappear after making those dip switch changes. Wish I could up vote your post more than once, thank you so much for the help. Finally going to get this game shopped out after it has sat here for almost a year. Very grateful for your help, thanks for the reply!
