Quoted from RC_like_the_cola:

Any inside info on the sound package?

All custom from David Thiel. Every character will have their own tune. Largest sound pack to date.

pmWolf said:I'm not quite figuring out the Transformers hate. I just got one yesterday, and it seems fine to me.
Is it missing something critical that I don't know about?
Pete
Over promised under delivered.

Non pinheads don't know what was promised, hence it is a great game. The people that were watching closely were promised a lot and yes, it under delivered. Still a great game IMHO.

mnpinball said:Same pf and rules in LE's, just cab art, 2 color trims and backglass art differences I'm hearing.
But yeah, I hear ya. I would like one LE version.
Prefer to have left/right cab art different, represent all X-Men on the BG and call it a day.
So, is it confirmed all good guy art vs all bad guy art? I thought the decepticon and autobot TF's were terrible having only 1 set of characters. The same damn art on both sides. When it is all said and done the combo will over value the others IMO.

It is confirmed. But.... no one knows what it looks like at this point. I chose the combo TFs LE over all the others because I wanted both factions represented. I agree that all the characters should be on the art. One in the foreground and the other in the background.
Stern is done with Chrome trim from what I know. It is cheaper to powdercoat the trim.

#142 11 years ago

Its looking like the cab art/translight is going to be layed out just like TFs Pro and TFs Designer Series.
Not what I was hoping for.

Grr. They need a version with all the toys but both good and bad guys on the art. This is such a simple concept, it amazes me they can't see it. Don't they hear the comments about how we hated the TF single faction cabs. Argh.

I had an Autobot on order but as soon as I saw all three models I changed mine to a standard LE with both factions. To me you can't just have one side. What is the point of that?

#152 11 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

Jason do you have any idea if stern plan of selling decals for future pins? The thought of simply good LE and bad LE sucks balls IMO but....
I'm thinking buy whichever one I like best and just grab some extra decals of the other faction and bam best of both worlds good vs bad art baby

Yes you can buy the decals and make the cab however you like.

Hopefully it's good. TF and BDK are too examples of bad theme music so I hope it's on the good side.
What? TF's music is fantastic. David Thiel really knows how to compose tracks that fit the characters personalities.

David Thiel does amazing work! Nuff said.

#289 11 years ago

Guessing end of day Friday for pics. Why do today what they can put off till Friday.

#293 11 years ago
Quoted from levcrush:

I heard it should be similar to past LEs. Namely, the LEs should be in the $6k range. In fact, I've already sent a deposit for my Xmen LE! Now time for pics!

I've already sent my deposit in for Avengers. You guys need to keep up.

#354 11 years ago

I love Borg games. He is my favorite designer going back to GnR. Everyone has their favorite designer for their own reasons.
I'd be more concerned with Avengers at this point than Xmen.

Xmen is going to be something special I think.

#365 11 years ago

Since Avengers LE is rumored to be a Super LE just like AC/DC it will be close to if not over $7K. Ughh.

#371 11 years ago
Quoted from bigdaddy07:

jackal2001 said:Since Avengers LE is rumored to be a Super LE just like AC/DC it will be close to if not over $7K.
If its LCD, make that 8k. That's why the X-men is appealing to me, it may just be the last NIB I can or will actually afford. Though for a kickin RE pin, I may have to stretch the budget some.

Why do you think LCD means more expensive? LCD technology is very cheap now. Now if they were going to put an OLED screen that would be something different.

Somebody tell me if this thing will play fast, really fast??

Ya, I got mine yesterday and it plays super fast.

#430 11 years ago
Quoted from goatdan:

I'm excited about that with WoZ. I know an op who bought 10 of them. That's 10 more than all of the Trons, ACDCs and Transformers combined sold to the operators around here.

Wow, I bet all the retirement homes are going to be thrilled with getting those pins. - Sorry bad sense of humor I have.

Seriously, are you in on this one?

Of course I'm getting one. It is from Borg! My favorite designer.
Going for the Borg Trifecta. Tron LE, IM, X-Men LE.

#454 11 years ago

Yep. Count on nothing when it comes to seeing pics.

#469 11 years ago

Heros or villians. Figure just like tfs designer editions.

#471 11 years ago

Pro will be the combo type only from what I hear.

#478 11 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

jackal2001 said:Pro will be the combo type only from what I hear.
That kinda bums me out...when you have a "Vs." concept, I'd like both factions represented...that's why I preferred the Combo TF over the Auto/Dec versions. I hope each side is still represented on the 2 different versions. Heroes version - focus on the X-Men with Magneto and some bad guys in the background...and vice versa. I wouldn't want to put the Pro translite on the LE....but, I guess we'll see what these things look like soon enough!

Yep, Yep, Yep.

#498 11 years ago
Quoted from gambit3113:

We have been hearing "pics by the end of the week" for literally 4 weeks now. There is no reason to think they are coming soon.

The industry standard is to say "in two weeks".

GAP said:This should be borgs best. All comes down to code. Makes I'm loo I'M look like a zizzle
It is definitely looking promising. Glad the new guys are getting a crack at the rules. And I'm sure Lyman could polish it up if needed.

IM is a great pin expecially when you have a shaker in it and a speaker kit. Doesn't matter though as I'll have both.

Lyman isn't going to polish anything as he isn't working on the code to begin with. What he should be doing is after AC/DC is finished is getting back to finishing up Tron.

It's possible for Lyman to polish any game. He is a Stern employee. I don't believe Tron was his game to begin with, but jumped in to help. You can tell it was never his game from how shallow it is rule wise.

Uban screwed the pooch on Tron and Lyman had to redo/finish it. That is why he is going back to work on it some more.

Quoted from TomGWI:

mnpinball said:Latest word is Stern was waiting on the LE backglasses.
That's the delay, once all is together and finalized all will be revealed. Don't see any reason that after labor day we should finally see the completed package. Art work will blow you away is what I'm hearing. Patience everyone. It will be worth it.
Hey Jason, are the LE mirrored backglasses or just Translites.

Thats what I want to know. The way it sounded from Borg (people may want to switch them out to get good and bad guys on them) they would all be translights. Don't know who would switch out a real glass for a translight.

#597 11 years ago
Quoted from Frax:

... dumping some older pins at good prices if current machines keep rocking!

Keep dreaming. The way the market is older pins just keep going up in price. Buy sooner than later.

#600 11 years ago

Ya and condition is everything. I want my stuff looking brand spanking new. If your the type that just likes to get "players" pins that is ok too. I'm just thinking more along the lines of collector quality pins.

#604 11 years ago
Quoted from pmWolf:

RobT said:How about a friendly wager? I'll be you a hundred bucks that X-Men is Stern's next pin and that Borg is the designer. And that there will be two LE versions and a Pro.

No kidding. I'm also happy to make this bet with anyone that is willing!
Pete

Na it is MIB. The 3rd movie just came out so it has to be that.

#613 11 years ago
Quoted from levcrush:

I know it's impossible to know for sure but what is the consensus from those in-the-know....will we have pictures this week or the week of June 4th?

I said it before. Never count on dates for pictures to be released. They never stick to them.

#615 11 years ago
Quoted from Shapeshifter:

What are the differences between the two LE's??

Translight, Trim Color, Cabinet Art. Don't know if the side rails will be laser cut or not like AC/DC.

I weep for anyone that hasn't been following this thread all along.
How long would it take to read all 800+ posts?
I'm still hopeful that we'll see pics this week...but it is starting to look unlikely. Also, when they release pics, will it be of just the Pro, or will they spill pics on all three models? (Pro, LE-Good, LE-A*Hole)
Pete

I believe they are going to spill the entire pot of beans at once.

#882 11 years ago

HOT DANG!!!

Center ball lock with Avatar type spikes, looks to hold all four balls.

#893 11 years ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

jackal2001 said:Center ball lock with Avatar type spikes, looks to hold all four balls.
Hm, I wonder how that will work...cuz on Avatar, one ball in causes the spikes to shoot up and lock it. Will this have a captive ball element to it, or is it just a physical lock/release? Hmmm. Interesting!

Other balls may lock in from the back.

#898 11 years ago
Quoted from mnpinball:

Steve Ritchie is the King of flow but John Borg is the Mechanical Master
This game is to have the most ball interaction toys to date for a Stern pin.
This will be a game kept in collectors hands, prices will rise like TRON LE. No premiums.
No pop ups or spinning magnet in Pro. I can keep hyping but you know it's all true

The rule of thumb is to hype it up after you get it. Not before.

#903 11 years ago
Quoted from SDobek:

mnpinball said:No pop ups or spinning magnet in Pro. I can keep hyping but you know it's all true
If this is the case, they really need to make more LE's than 300x2. Those things are going to be sold out before one even rolls off the line with all the hype this is getting.

I hear WOZs are still available.

#931 11 years ago
Quoted from system11:

c3trey said:What's going on in the drawings where it shows inserts that would seem to be underneath the ramp entrances? I can't visualize what that's about.
Say hello to plastic ramps. Tron has the same thing.

No one stated this was going to have metal ramps. Just because it is in the promo video doesn't mean the pin will.

#935 11 years ago

I wondered if that was the case. The ramp in the video is clearly homemade, so I figured it's possible that they use metal in the design process until the ramps can be molded.

Yep.

#1122 11 years ago
Quoted from TigerLaw:

treborlicec said:I think with the comic book style art, we will get back to the old hand draw sexy girl on back glasses era. At least for one pin, anyway.
Agreed. As we discussed earlier in the thread, I think stern is realizing we dont like the artwork to consist of pics of actors...that is big time lame.

It will be back to the movies for Avengers so we'll see if actors will be on the pin.

OK so lets stop with all the "I can't believe they would do this or that and I think it will be this, etc."

Avengers is next by Gomez.

#1143 11 years ago
Quoted from J85M:

jackal2001 said:OK so lets stop with all the "I can't believe they would do this or that and I think it will be this, etc."
Avengers is next by Gomez.
If it is in fact going to happen I've got two worries on it, firstly it's Gomez and for me personally he's disappointed me hugely with his last couple games at stern (I still don't class LOTR his game as its such a large group effort & the software and rules make it the great pin it is more than anything) & secondly how long has he really had to develop it doesn't feel long enough especially of its going to be the first pin using sterns new board set/system. Unless the new system and avengers is why he bailed on TF? Really do hope if Gomez is doing avengers he rights all his wrongs on TF and blows us away, I'd fear for anyone who drops the ball on an Avengers pin, the masses will be out with pitchforks and torches.

No one said it was going to be on the new board set. That probably won't happen until Mid to Late 2013.

#1243 11 years ago

No premiums will be announced after the announcement of what is going to be made. Stern had a lot of threats toward them for pulling that with Avatar LE. It won't happen again.

#1328 11 years ago

Last I heard was "by the end of the week". that was said last night.

#1374 11 years ago

What does it matter what was subbed for the toy. The fact is you can add a shaker yourself and you can't cut into the pf to add a toy. (And yes I know what toy was subbed).

#1378 11 years ago
Quoted from LITZ:

jackal2001 said:What does it matter what was subbed for the toy.
Because usually you can find these toys for $5 at Wal-Mart.

There are no Wal-Mart toys on this game. All custom. Been said since day one.

#1383 11 years ago
Quoted from mnpinball:

LITZ said:jackal2001 said:What does it matter what was subbed for the toy.

Not a $150 Dave Link custom molded Nightcrawler troll mech, wiring and programming you can't !
I'd rather have 2 of these in the game instead of one
There are no store bought toys in this pin, it's all custom !

I knew that secret was going to last less than a minute.

#1443 11 years ago

I'm glad it has a backglass as I don't have a pin with one yet. I'll take the toys over a shaker any day as we can add those ourselves.

Like I said in my earlier post, pics to come by the end of the week. I don't know who said they would be out last night at midnight.

#1480 11 years ago
Quoted from mnpinball:

Just got message from Stern the LE run is sold out.

Same was said for TFs and now rumors are they didn't even produce all of them.

#1552 11 years ago

Someone (that has my cell) give me a text when they actually post some info or pics.

#1590 11 years ago

Magnetos cape is blue on the side of the cab and then purple on the translight on the pro. On the LE, purple. Toy is blue.
Make it easy. Get the wolverine LE and you don't have to worry about the cape color matching anything on the artwork. LOL

#1855 11 years ago

For all the guys saying "I can't believe you guys are talking about buying/swaping trim, toys, etc.". This has been going on forever. Jesus, just look at Tron. People are paying $5000+ for a NIB Pro now. They are buying Orange Trim, version 2.1 Arcade toy, EL wire, other toys and such. Hell, my Tron LE was cheaper than what they are getting a Pro for now.

Stern is done with chrome because it is expensive and they had problems with it. So no people can decide what color trim they want because most likely every LE from TFs on will have powder coating on it.

It all comes down with what you want to do with "your" game and how you want to personalize it. Mod ON!

I am not in the habbit of asking friends about monies and such. So i cant answer to that. Call mike and ask if Musket and Salgado got there games today if you dont believe me.
You asked if anyone had gotten theres from Mike and i told you.

Yes I have my game and have been playing it. Seems to have some software bugs where the balls come out of the magneto lock and sometimes the magnet doesn't catch them. I need to go over the pin tomorrow but it has been a long day and time for bed. 208917_325996024161855_1655668032_n.jpg208917_325996024161855_1655668032_n.jpg

#3652 11 years ago

Was doing some LED swaps and noticed the backboard is transparent. Not solid wood like we are used to. There are 6 flashers on the back side of the backboard.

Also noticed that the spotlight that shines on Magneto is a 161 lamp and not a standard LED. When I put a standard LED in, it didn't even work.

Speakers from FF will need to be updated with a new wiring connection. It doesn't connect via z-clip anymore. He is working on it.

Installed a mantis (tron) scoop hole protector but it needed some modification. I sent Kerry the info with pics and hopefully he will have something out shortly.

There is a mylar strip in front of the scoop (like Tron) that is really invisible. You can't find it unless you run your fingernail over the edge of it.

#3654 11 years ago

Damn, I already have a FF sub sitting here waiting for my XM.

Right flippers are firing backwards. push the button in a little and the upper flipper fires first. Should be the bottom flipper first.

#3671 11 years ago

Just so I wasn't going crazy, I tested SM and Tron. They are correct.
Xmen is backwards.

#3676 11 years ago

I'm not going to take video. I'm tired of seeing, "Thanks, you just saved me $6K" posts.
The Dots are far superior to anything else ever done by Stern. The music for all the different modes is fantastic.
Right now with early code there are some bugs to be worked out. Ball times are very very short. Game is really really fast. I only have about 20 games on mine so far as I was waxing, protecting, installing stuff yesterday.

#3678 11 years ago

There is a lot of stuff to be added in the next code release in a few weeks according to David Thiel. There is stuff missing from the code as it is now. Kind of like what happened when Tron came out. You get into a mode but don't know how many shots are left to complete the mode.
Hitting wolverine doesn't have any sound effects yet so everyone thinks hits are not registering.

They will get all this worked out.

#3712 11 years ago
Quoted from playernumber4:

Neither of my right side flippers will fire separate no matter how lightly I hit the button. I wonder how it is designed to work?

You'll need to adjust the leaf switch then.

Anyone else starting to see the PF dimpling, like all over? This is by far the worst out of all my Sterns.

#3717 11 years ago

My IM shows some dimples, but my Dec 2010 SM doesn't have one dimple. PF is perfect.
My Tron LE is really good too.

#3721 11 years ago
Quoted from mnpinball:

SM not 1 dimple, LOL c'mon.

I swear, not one dimple.

#3730 11 years ago

That is like saying a few layers of paint is going to protect a car if you toss a pinball on it. Come on guys, its just wood. Clear isn't going to protect shit.
Just depends on how hard the wood is. I guess some samples are harder than others.

#3803 11 years ago

I'm curing my clear coat with a heat gun. How do I fix all the sunken inserts now????

#3841 11 years ago
Quoted from Wamprat:

That's another problem, I really only want MARVEL pins in the collection.
SM will be back again to join IM and I was hoping that Avengers would be before anything else but I am stoked X-MEN has come along too. IM and SM are cool cuase there is no LE with extra gameplay features but the new ones...LE=totally different game.
I might just have to pull the trigger on XM and hope that Avengers isn't going to be made for awhile...and I mean quite awhile .

LOL, Avengers will be out in Oct. to make Expo. Better sell a kidney.

#3881 11 years ago

There was a big meeting at Stern yesterday to discuss code, including issues. A code update will be out in another week or so followed by more code down the road.

#3947 11 years ago

#4153 11 years ago
Quoted from paul_8788:

I was wondering this too, as I swear the first couple games I played there was no banging from the magnet. If anyone who has no banging can provide a screenshot of the spinning disc motor shaft alignment that would be great, I would like to know how it is supposed to look, then it can probably be adjusted. I also have an email into Stern to get official information about what "normal" is.
I believe I read earlier in this thread that they temporarily stopped production on the LEs because of a Q/C issue with a part, wondering if that was the motor...

You can't adjust it. See my pictures in the issues thread. The banging will get worse as I think the gear will start to move on its axle. It is only pressed on. If it starts out with a 1/16" gap, the magnet will keep pulling it up and down until the gear starts to move further and further away from where it was supposed to be. You would have to take everything apart, and I mean everything and try to press the gear back on. If you don't have a press, you might break it. Just my two cents.

#4155 11 years ago
Quoted from muttonboy:

There is slop in the shaft due to the gear, but the banging I get is actually not from that. The magnet sits loose around the shaft and doesn't spin, directly under the disc. It just floats there independent of everything else. When it energizes in one direction it flies up, then it energizes in the other direction and flies back down. It does push the disc up and down, so the play in the shaft can definitely be a problem when the magnet is pushing it up, but all the noise and banging I'm getting is from the magnet itself flopping around in there.

I have no banging and I didn't do anything with the magnet coil. If you leave the PF down on its rails on the end of the cab, put your hand on the disc and engage the magnet. My magnet doesn't bounce and I didn't try and secure it. The banging is caused by the magnet pulling the disc assembly up and it slams back down. Once I did my hot glue fix, don't recommend doing it that way, there is no noise at all when engaging the magnet in test mode.

#4158 11 years ago
Quoted from muttonboy:

Pretty sure we have different problems then. I tested it with the playfield up, and took it completely apart yesterday. and manually made the banging noise by hand rattling the magnet around. The shaft makes more of a rattle. The magnet moving makes the entire machine shake, even when the disc isn't spinning, and the disc does not move up and down at all most of the time while the machine is shaking.

When you have the PF in the Upright position, gravity isn't holding the magnet down. yes you can move it by hand but when the PF is down, it shouldn't make any noise.
Put the PF back down completely, like ready for play. Go in test mode and test the magnet with your other hand firmly pressing down on the disc.

Quoted from sd_tom:

so jackal, to summarize, you think it's all about the gear moving on the shaft right or i'm missing something? (just trying to figure out what I want to focus on when i get mine) So the hot glue is taking place of what probably needed to be done was to score the shaft with an awl or something above and below so the gear doesn't move. That about it? (without a machine in front of me, I'm having a hard time visualizing these problems ).

Look in the issues thread at the bottom of the first page. You can see the big gap. yes you can put some kind of split coller in there to take up the room. Good luck finding something that will work.

The shaft probably needs a hole drilled through the center and a roll pin installed so the gear doesn't come loose and start moving down the shaft. I'm only guessing this is why no one heard it before and as time goes on, it gets louder due to it slowly moving.

The magnet shutting off is a heat related issue. The magnet has some kind of sensor somewhere and it shuts off when too hot. At least that is what I was told. They are going to try pulsing the magnet less.

#4546 11 years ago

I was down a Michael's (Flipper Fidelity) house today helping with the Wolverine backbox kit. The kits look awesome! The Magneto looks way better in person than on the video. We couldn't think of much with the wolverine backglass but I think it turned out great. There is way too much going on in the glass. All in all it turned out great and the blues really pop in Wolverine!
I was really impressed with the AC/DC LTBR too. That was really meant for a LED panel.

We actually had the xmen logo pulse but the left corner was being lit by the other leds and it looked like 1/2 was lit while the other 1/2 was fading. It didn't look right
Also didn't want color changers going through his claws.

Absolutely.
No difference at all.

Take all exta stuff like the coinbox, balls, tilt, anything that can rattle. I had rattling from somewhere during the shaker going off and it was the balls in the trough.

Also with the shaker motor cover off. Pull up and push down on the motor itself. You may feel it click/move about a 1/8". If it does this you can tighten the top cross bolt some more for the bracket. This will snug the motor in the bracket.

It truely baffles my why Tron get's so much respect... it's only got about 4 modes to speak of and is as shallow as Paris Hilton... TF is way more complex and engrosing... I've had both LEs, still have TF, but had to move Tron on because it was just too shallow... Is it the colour changing ramp lights, 3D backglass and spinning balls from the disk that mesmerise people into believing the game is good... Maybe I missed something, but 'till I find out, I'll remain totally baffled...

I went the other way. TFs LE is gone and Tron LE is staying. Even though TFs is a good game, I can't get anywhere in it. Lack of reward makes me not want to play it.
Getting a mini-wizard mode in IM or Tron makes me feel like I accomplished something and keeps me coming back to play to get to the wizard mode.
Not being able to get past Optimus Prime or having to complete every mode is near impossible. It seems like you need to be a Pro player just to get somewhere in it. Not to mention that shots don't stick in the allspark cube lane is even more frustrating.

Rumored Tron Update.
Rumored Transformers Update.
Uh AC/DC is way behind. Still need another update due out.
X-Men updates still needed.

New Avengers game out by Expo in Oct.

Do you honestly think they will fix/update code on Tron and Transformers? They are so far behind as it is. I don't think they will get done.

#5828 11 years ago

interesting to see the captive ball there in the whitewood like we were told about. I think the magnet was the better way to go but that damn wolverine magnet pisses me off sometimes by taking the ball and throwing it right down the outlane.

#5862 11 years ago
Quoted from rotordave:

Right-o. Yesterday, I was getting so frustrated with miss hits bouncing off the ramp posts and going down the sides (particularly down the left drain) I was about to chuck the machine off the balcony. So I decided to try something.
I took the rubber ring off the left post. Hardly earth shattering ... but boy did it make a difference. Now if you hit the post, the ball comes right back at the flippers rather than going god-knows-where (drains, magnet-->drains, magnet-->SDTM) Any failed Cyclops shots also fall down towards the flippers, rather than down the left lane. I will put a Cliffy colour sleeve on here eventually.
I also closed the outlane posts right down, and thats made a big difference too. You can shake the ball back up now, you couldn't before. Also gives you some leeway with nudging.
I hardly ever modify my games play wise .... my Ironman is exactly as it came out of the box. But something needed to be done!
Had 4 games with the above mods. Best score on totally factory 3 ball settings (the only change is to free play) is 45m. Had all the Xmen lit solid except Iceman who was flashing. Had 3 flashing Villains, almost got Juggernaut, had his helmet off but just ran out of time. Dohhh.
Dave

Just replace the posts and put the cliffy sleeves on them. Make it just like any other pin. Balls don't go shooting down the drain then.

I'm confused. How can the forks in the Magneto lock "shoot like a spear" and hit the glass? Aren't the two forks connected under the PF?
I've had the screw tying the forks to the coil come off 4 times now! I have to find the end cap and spring in the cabinet when this happens. I've got to get some loctite too as I'm sure it will happen again.

I'm confused as I never had this happen.

#6226 11 years ago

The only issue I have with the ball lock is everytime I shoot a ball in the lock when lock isn't lit, the forks release and the ball comes and goes sdtm. If 2 balls are in there the second ball hits the right flipper but the first still goes sdtm. It is like the prongs are releasing wierd or someting or the ball is directed to go that way. The PF is even a little higher on the left side to try and avoid this.

#6234 11 years ago
Quoted from DugFreez:

I had the ball releasing SDTM when I "leveled" my machine with my digital level. Then I realized that the bubble on the level was way off from the digital reading. Then I re-leveled it using the bubble and all is better.
I have noticed that balls seem to react differently if there is only 1 ball releasing or several. Even when I was having SDTM problems it was usually only when it was holding and releasing 1 ball.

I only have a level with a bubble in it. I'm also putting the level directly on the pf and not the glass.

#6237 11 years ago

The first ball, if only one ball is in the lock, seems to veer direclty from being released from the prongs. If the prongs are already down, the ball seems to hit the right flipper. Seems like the prongs are causing the ball to move to the left a bit for some reason.
Doesn't have anything to do with the disc.
If you put 2 balls in the lock and release the lock, you will see the first ball go sdtm and then second ball hit the right flipper.

#6251 11 years ago
Quoted from DugFreez:

Did you check your prongs for tightness? I know I had one a little bit loose and when I pulled the coil and prongs out of the bracket from under the playfield...you could tell the loose one wasn't lined up straight like it should be when it is tight. Maybe one sitting a bit differently from the other is putting a weird roll on the first ball (that would be resting against them).

Didn't check them yet. I'll get around to that sometime.

Quoted from Kiwipinhead:

What do you guy's think of this?

I tried mylar over the magnet core just like I have on IM and SM. Xmen mylar on the magnet core gets chewed to hell no matter what and no matter how level the core is with the pf. I gave up trying to protect it. Hell my magnet core has ball dimples in it.

Frisket. http://www.dickblick.com/products/grafix-all-purpose-frisket-film/
I've never tried it for that. Guess it would work just the same depending on thickness.

I've tried to use fake mylar on top of the wolverine magnet, one solid piece, and it keeps getting chewed up. If you go around the magnet, like a donut shape with a hole in the center, it will work fine.

Just got my full plastics protector kit installed from Pinbits. Had to remove both ramps and magneto but they are pretty easy to remove. While I was at it I replaced that post by Rogue with a standard post/rubber as well.

I was testing after I got everything back together and completed Brotherhood. Whooaa the shaker goes off constantly for what feels like 30 seconds. It was awesome!!! I wish I could have seen what was going on the DMD.

#6947 11 years ago
Quoted from RobT:

The shaker is a lot stronger in X-Men than Tron it seems. I do have to use tape on the glass on both of them to prevent the rattling, but most of the rattling is from the bass, not the shaker, at least in my case with Tron.

Yep I've only had a problem with rattling glass on Tron and that was due to the subwoofer. I put some felt strips on the glass channel to make it tight. It is thin, black, self adhesive and can be found at craft stores on single sheets.

#6958 11 years ago
Quoted from muttonboy:

All my damage was at the top and on the beveled edge, I have no idea how the mantis protector protects that, doesn't it sit inside below the beveled edge?

No idea how you are getting damage on the top edge of the pf into the artwork. The mantis does sit below the beveled edge. With extra nailpolish clear on that edge and the mantis installed, I've never had any damage to either my Tron or Xmen.

It is not the clearcoat. It is the soft wood.
Even the magnet core has divets from the ball.

#6968 11 years ago

Everyone I talked to has about the same dimpling with this specific pin. My TFs didn't have any dimpling at all. My SM has almost zero as well. IM has some. Tron has only a few.
This is by far the worst out of all 5 NIB Sterns I purchased.

Stern stated this as Normal. They say they tested them against BDK, IM, and some others and they tested the same.

#6987 11 years ago

I'm saying this game gets crazy airballs and you are not going to stop the divots no matter what. If it is dimpling the metal magnet core, you can be sure that the pf is going to divot up.

I did a test in an area below the flippers and just held the ball about 2-3" above the pf and dropped it. Yep it put a divot into the pf. Live with them and enjoy the game.

Was just playing an AFM with a new mirco pf installed and that game was getting crazy airballs as well. Divots in the pf also. Steel ball and wood surface... ball wins every time.

#6992 11 years ago

Isn't that on stern though to get them cleared ahead enough in the schedule so they have time to harden if that's really the deal? Or, barring that a warning included that game should sit idle for xx for optimum hardness. If they do neither, and if it's really about hardening time, aren't they negligent?

So you are saying now that mine has been 2 months old from the time it was cleared, now I shouldn't get any more dimples in the pf? Well you are wrong!

#7076 11 years ago

I consider 1.2 software on the LE to be version 1.0... same as the pro. The software that shipped on the LE should have been considered alpha as the scoring didn't even work properly.

Consider Xmen code to be in its infancy right now. Hopefully they will continue to work on it for a long time.

I had a thought the other day about code and games in general. So now that it has been almost 2 years since S.R./Lyman combo designed, produced, and now coding AC/DC, why would anyone buy machines from any other designer??? It seems that S.R. can dump as much time needed into a game until he sees fit that it is complete, where as other games get the... time to move on to the next one treatment.
I personally don't care for AC/DC as the music would get old to me. If S.R. does come out with Star Trek and it gets the same time and attention as AC/DC, then it will be a huge success.

Its time for Stern to give the same treatment to XMen now that AC/DC is getting. Work on it until it is completed. Stop pulling the plug on coding just to work on something new coming off the assembly line.

#7106 11 years ago

Take the screw out and put the proper one in that is needed. try to clean up the area as best as possible and if needed mix wood glue with sawdust and fill in the area.
I would be pissed but not sure if they are going to do anything about it. QC seems to be going downhill fast.

Use pinballlife mylar magnet protectors as in IM??

I tried some fake mylar on the magnet cores after spending hours trying to get the core level with the pf. It didn't matter. They mylar, even 2 layers, gets chewed up fast on that core for some reason. I guess all the back and forth over the core chews it up a lot faster than the cores on my IM or SM.
I gave up and removed the mylar from the core on XMen.

Lets just say Super spinner or Super pops was Never intended for the pro. But because the pro was missing two extra toys i convinced Lonnie to ad it. He thanked me in a email for motivating him to add these features that he never intended to add. I posted said email and it got a lot of heat including Lonnie calling me at home to bitch at me.
I have since smoothed over my relationship with certain Stern employees but TF is very much still a open wound due to other reasons i need not share. Its a great game and i am glad George and friends finally want to change the biggest thing holding a otherwise good game back.
I think its great Gary decided to address this issue and say something. I can only hope in the future a little humility on there part will follow. There is a long and bitter relationship between stern and many collectors. For the longest time we where the bottom of the barrel to him and he made it publicly known that we where.
I think Jody's influence in the company is getting some PR things done. While some of us might not like Jody or his FB antics it is indeed a fact that he is good for Stern and is bringing them into the future with updates and treating us like humans.
TF was my first NIB since 24 and i still dont regret that.....i do regret getting TF over Tron though.

And if the Pro and LEs have the exact same software features, there is no reason to buy an LE. This is why stern hasn't even made all the LEs yet. The whole reason to purchase an LE is to get software and features that only are LE specific.... unless the plan is to stop making LEs and just make one Pro model.

I've had my magneto for about 2 months now. 3 times out of the 100's of games I have on it,the flippers die right in the middle of a game? The ball drains & it's fine again? Anyone else experienced this?

Common problem with the 'ball jam opto' in the ball trough. The problematic opto is on the back side of the trough from the players perspective. Go into switch test mode and with a plastic screwdriver, push on the though connector for that opto and see if it triggers the switch. Remove and reflow solder if needed. Or just request a new opto board from stern.

Very common problem on Tron LEs.
