has anyone had an issue on the LE with the spinning disk not spinning that well. It was barely spinning the balls, if at all during the start of a multiball. they would just stick on the pad and spin like half an inch and fall off. I took it apart cleaned it, but it's not much better. Cleaned up some metal and carbon debris, checked all the gears.... it looks like everything is rotating fine. I'm not sure if it has more to do with the commutator looking magnet in the center.

It's getting power, I went ahead and bought that portion of the mech again to compare. Mainly wanting to know why this specific one is having issue. The thing that sucks is you can't buy the individual portions of that part of the mech, you have to buy the whole thing .

That's why made me get the pro, fewer moving parts and things to break.

My machine came with the Wolverine bash toy already replaced by the Newton Ball mod. I also got the bash toy with the machine but didn't want to cut it up to make it fit on top of the newton ball. I ended up getting this from amazon:

amazon (resized).pngamazon (resized).png
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PXVH155

I had to cut the base off to make it fit, and I just put hotglue on top of the newton ball square, and a dab of glue behind the statue to affix it to the pop-bumper top (mine's broken anyway)

Here he is with the glass off:
wolvie1 (resized).jpgwolvie1 (resized).jpg

And with the glass on:
wolvie2 (resized).jpgwolvie2 (resized).jpg

Bonus being that I love the Sentinel, so his hand , even if its cut off, still adds another sentinel element to the game.

I am already looking at Magneto replacements.

I get it, but it is kind of cool seeing the balls fly off that thing in different directions at the start of an MB.

The LE is loaded. What’s on the pro?

It's just the magnet, without the spinning disc part.

Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

The disc doesn't spin, so on magneto multiball the balls spread and fall towards the flippers. I think the LE disc is neat and would be the only LE feature I'd want on my pro. The Iceman ramp moving has zero appeal to me, and the Night Crawler trolls look like they would really mess with flow.

I think I found the magneto Im going to use ...if it fits: https://www.amazon.com/Diamond-Select-Toys-Marvel-Magneto/dp/B003F2YXBW/

Ad says 7" tall so I think I may have to cut into the base a bit.

You can put him in without the base. The spiral on the plastic under the stock Magneto plastic figure is cool and looks awesome.

#12008 3 years ago

Totally agree, one of the reasons I want a smaller figure is so those plastics can be seen. If I do get it I'll probably cut the base down a lot , it should help secure him and the Colossus hand is a nice touch. There was another magneto posted previously and it's a pretty great fit, so that maybe the the one that goes into this machine too.

A sentinel in the back right corner (where the sentinel plastic is) would be amazing but pretty much all of them are massive and or crazy expensive.

Why don’t you like the moving ramp? It’s cool and adds a bit of a challenge. Actually adds to game flow when used. It’s under used in my opinion. Same with Night Crawlers. There’s two mini modes when there’s used, and because they’re the primary objective when in play, they don’t impact flow at all. In rare cases a ball can get trapped behind the left one, and you need to wait for a coil cycle.

I can’t imagine the game without these features. Otherwise the game would seem GoT like barren in terms of lack of features. Hopefully the pro still has the cyclops spinner?

#12010 3 years ago

I love my LE but the iceman ramp sucks and I only turn it on for tournaments to make the game harder. I hate how it blocks your vision when in use and I hate how it moves sometimes and drops your ball sdtm.

#12011 3 years ago

I'm kinda sad Squizz downvoted my mini wolverine I was super happy with the way it turned out

Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

Puffdanny pretty much nails it:

I do think its neat that the shot can potentially put the ball on the left flipper instead of always on the right but it just seems so clunky.I didn't know the NCs only pop up during specific modes but I just don't think you lose much by not having them.

Game is far from barren and is probably one of the best value Pros ever released.

The Pro does have 2 things going for it the LEs dont:
Subjectively the best art package and much cheaper/easier to change out the villain light colors by the flippers

#12012 3 years ago

Moving Iceman ramp rules.

Watching people shoot it when they shouldn’t and their ball flies off the end is priceless.

Xmen is one of the few Stern games where I prefer the LE (or premium) to the Pro.

90% of them, the Pro is the better shooter/game. Xmen pro is still very cool (I played one last weekend) but I like the LE “accoutrements”.

Hey, just my opinion.

Yup...for me too. I can't imagine XM without the LE features. Spinning Magneto is probably my all time favorite gimmick and the start of that multiball is still one of my favorite moments in pinball after all these years. The Nightcrawlers are not intrusive since they are used so rarely, and I love them terribly. Both can be backhanded, which makes me very happy. The color changing GI gives every mode a unique feel of their own. The Iceman ramp is probably my least favorite of the added features, but I do still like it. It adds more chaos to an already chaotic game, and I love that. If you drain from shooting it at the wrong time, that's on you...not the game's fault.

This isn't meant as a rip on the pro. I'm sure it's still a great game, and the art is very nice (though I think Wolverine is the cream of the crop, all 3 packages are amazing). It's just that for me, the added gimmicks really elevate the LE to a different level.

#12015 3 years ago

Someone above said that the pro was loaded almost as much as Met. How? 3 flippers and 2 magnets? What moves on the pro? Besides the spinner.

Believe me, if I could add the spinning magneto disc to my pro I would cant say the same for the other 2 things
I ordered some blue superbands for the flippers and some replacement flipper buttons, but I couldnt find pink LEDs for the pop bumpers like someone suggested.

Both Cointaker and Comet offer pink LED’s. You just reminded me that I still need to buy those myself.

I prefer the play of rubber vs synthetic. I installed blue rubber on my flipper bats and they are still going strong after 8 years and thousands of plays. They look great too, somethng to consider

If I dont like them, they'll just get shifted over to LW3 and I'll get blue rubbers instead.

I added FatPanda 's audio mix and it makes the game a ton better. Next up a shaker motor and maybe save up for the upgraded speakers

Joined in September with a Wolverine LE. What a fun game, love the shots and the modes. The game is packed with stuff to do. They don’t make Sterns like this one anymore. Prior to buying this, my only experience with X-Men was a Disney World on a busted and dirty machine.

I bought the game pretty well modded already. My favorite is the Pinduino ramp kit, very cool light show, but I’m slowly adding more personal touches to it:

-Royal Blue and Black t-molding to make it look more like a modern Stern. I always felt like the chrome t-molding was out of place on almost every game from this era.

-Silver coin reject/return bezels

Tonight I switched the main flipper rubbers from Titan blue to Titan purple. Felt like the purple blended in better with the surrounding plastics and Playfield colors. The 3rd flipper by Phoenix was already changed to orange by the previous owner and looks good so I left it. May swap to green in the future if I get bored.

More to come!

Is anyone here running a pin2dmd display with a colored file on their x-men pin? I see that one exists, but am just curious of the quality of it before I order a pin2dmd display for it. Thanks!

CB3 did an amazing job but the game isnt 100% done. I prefer his color choices to what colordmd did but their colorization is 100% done and his is closer to 90%

Thanks Malenko , I appreciate your response. Could you elaborate on what roughly 10% is not finished? Depending what it is I’m still tempted to go that route. I saw a few gifs of his work on xmen, they looked quiet well done.

Super flattered that tigerpin found that post thumbs down worthy! This whole Pin2DMD vs ColorDMD is fucking stupid.

So from his docs it looks like The attract mode doesnt have the xmen logo done, the scores are single color (pin2DMD doesnt support dynamic content on Sam hardware AFAIK) , Danger Room mode is undone, Dark Phoenix mode is undone, Magneto Multiball is partially done, WeaponX Multiball mode is undone, Hellfire and Brother Hood modes are undone, and Xavier mode is partially done.

Other than cost, the main things holding me back from buying a color DMD is that only the LCD is available for Xmen, and I really don't like the way the Sentinels were colored

Art is subjective and I get that, but I think CB3's colors are more accurate to the Jim Lee era of Xmen. This could easily be updated by the colorDMD people but they never fixed the hitch hikers hair color in Getaway so, doubt its worth it to them.

Thanks for answering my question, I really appreciate it. I did order a pin2dmd to put into xmen, but it sounds like there’s a fair bit left undone. I too prefer CB3s color choices, but it might drive me a bit nuts if it keeps switching between colored and not. I might just put the pin2dmd into South Park and invest in a colordmd for xmen.
I’m currently using both pin2dmds and colordmds, and I think both are great. A big Thank-you to the community of people that are colouring the files for us, regardless which platform you’re colouring for. You guys are the real mvps.

Of course, it is subjective. But in person when I am not taking a super close up picture of the LEDs, it looks really good. I personally prefer the LED vs LCD but that topic has been hashed through many times. I have Hulk Avengers, Spiderman and STTNG using colorDMD LCD, and LOTR, X-Men Magneto, Flintstones, WCS, GB, and STLE on colordmd LED.

I have SM on super XL dots and both Avengers and STTNG on the scan mode.

Hey folks. So I just got my xmen pro home and set up. I looked everything over before starting it up. I played it for an hour, and then noticed a faint white smoke under the playfield. So I turned the game off immediately and unplugged it. I removed the glass and lifted the playfield. There was no smell. None of the coils felt hot. The magneto magnet did though. Has anyone encountered this before with their xmen?

Edit: After chatting with a few friends and reading a few threads on here, I think my next move is to raise the playfield up, and then power the pin on. With the playfield up, if a coil is locking on, I should be able to see/hear it better. I'll try that later today.

So I checked under the playfield again. I powered the pin up with the playfield up. I lowered it and played for half an hour. Annnnd.... nothing. No smoke, no hot coils, no coils stuck on, no humming, etc.
The only thing I did, and I’m not sure if it was the culprit or not, was I removed the Xavier kick up mech, and inspected the switch, and then reattached to the playfield. I had noticed yesterday that sometimes it didn’t register very well. After I adjusted it, it registered great every time. So I’m thinking maybe it’s switch got stuck down causing the coil to heat up and smoke a bit? The smoke was coming from the back of the playfield. But this is all just a theory really.
So I’ll give it some more playing sessions, and see how it goes. If it comes back, I’ll update here again.

Edited: I had questions about running a led colordmd in a xmen, but I ended up ordering a lcd instead. I know most people prefer the leds, but I quite like the look of the lcd colordmds.

Just another update. When I played a few games this afternoon, the Xavier shot worked perfectly. When I played a few more this evening, the Xavier shot didn’t really work at all. It would go in, then sit there until the ball search kicked in, then it would kick up and count it as a storm shot.
Any ideas? Sensitive switch? When I had it out the other day the switch seemed in good shape.

Sounds like a standard switch adjustment or a broken wire

Just to follow up with this again. It ended up being a combination of a diode broken leg on the trough switch, and the Xavier switch needing re-shaped. Works great now.

This is probably more of a general pinball question but posting it here since it's on my X-Men... is my playfield warped? I had it sitting in a room for about 5 months where it was probably a little uneven but nothing drastic. I knew it needed to be adjusted but wanted to wait for it to be moved to it's final resting place before really dialing it in. Well, I finally moved it and now have been trying to get it level but after much adjustment I find that the pitch near the top of the playfield is 7.0, the middle is 6.5, and down by the flippers is 6.0... ?? Any advice? This is my first pin so consider me a noob. I'm using the pinguy app on my phone for leveling. Thanks in advance.

I finally got to the Danger Room mode..... hit the middle "magneto" shot and the ball released SDTM , whomp whomp.

I did add a piece of polished stainless steel that goes along the right drain, from the apron all the way up to the 3rd flipper.
It brightens up the lighting under the plastics and just looks really neat along the drain.

Its kind of tough to take pictures of , it kind of just blends in, which was the point. I figured seeing "special" mirrored would be the easiest way to show it.

I’m staying in the game. XMEN is experiencing a renaissance in my household.

What’s the best color DMD option?

#12049 3 years ago

Anyone have a fix for the LED constantly getting knocked out of spot lights? The LED in the spotlight over the right sling gets knocked out all the time, and Ive had the Magneto LED pop out once or twice from air ball deflections from hitting the big magneto.

Quoted from TheFamilyArcade:

ColorDMD, as its the only option. LED or LCD is a matter of preference, Im fond of LED myself.

Pin2DMD has a new firmware to support SAM/SPIKE so I might pick up where CB3 left off and color some more scenes for him.

Quoted from Malenko:

Anyone have a fix for the LED constantly getting knocked out of spot lights? The LED in the spotlight over the right sling gets knocked out all the time, and Ive had the Magneto LED pop out once or twice from air ball deflections from hitting the big magneto.

I usually wrap a layer or two of electrical tape around the base of the bulb (under the wires of course). That gives it enough thickness to hold in place. Otherwise a drop of hot glue, a glue dot, or similar removable adhesive should do the trick.
