Quoted from jarozi:

I have noticed that at times my nightcrawlers act inconsistently as well at boot up but generally work as they should during a game. Since it's not a consistent pattern I assumed it was something to do with a switch registering when it shouldn't. Those things kick like a mule and bounce the whole playfield so I figured it was that action that caused things to go wonky and/or not reset properly. Further to that theory is that every time I start a game with the NC's in the up position the subsequent dropping of the mechs flips some switch and scores me exactly 1,110 points before I ever plunge the ball. No idea what switch it is.
But what doesn't jive between your situation and mine is that the problem apparently goes away with a code refresh. I haven't noticed that, but I haven't looked for it either.

It could be your Wolverine switch mine was too sensitive from the factory. Mine would score that same amount at startup. I just gapped the Wolverine switch a little and the problem is resolved.
