Quoted from PtownPin:

My guess is there is no way they sold 5000 units, but rumor has it they stopped production on Wonka's so I wouldn't hold my breath on getting one anytime soon. That doesn't mean at some point they won't do another run, but its anyones guess. Their pretty busy pumping out GNR's and they have their next title I assume they want to launch this year...

I reached out to a dealer just to see about any availability (either NIB or used). The answer was, of course, no, but he told me that he thought JJP was planning on making more WW and probably around end of year. I don't know how likely that is, but just wanted to share what I was told.

Quoted from big-c66:

Are they going to produce more willi wonka I seen a place that is a real dealer and it says contact for deposit n they just updated their page

Is this the for sale ad by classic game rooms? If you click on that link it says "Games begin shipping October 2020" so it's probably not true. If you go to their website, it says they have some LEs in stock, which is also suspect. If you contact them, let us know what they say because I would be interested as well. A year or so ago I had contacted them regarding another game that they had listed as available only to be told otherwise. YMMV.

Just put a deposit down. And the wait begins....

Quoted from pcprogrammer:Is this airball deflector something from JJP or aftermarket? Anyone come up with a better solution to stop it from happening to begin with.

I'm wondering if the later Wonka builds shipped with the right ramp shield installed at factory. Or if the new builds will. I don't see anyone else carrying these other than pinball universe and not sure if they ship to the states.

#9684 2 years ago

Are there any suggestions for protectors for the game? I have a couple switch protectors that I plan to use under the ramp drops and I ordered a set of plastic protectors, too. Anything else recommended?

Quoted from insight75:

Good to hear deliveries have started. I haven't heard anything yet. Real curious about how many will be made in this run.

I believe an earlier post in this thread said it would be a run of 250 LEs.

Well, I, for one, am excited to get my NIB Wonka!! I wonder when they'll start shipping. I'm hoping soon...

Has anyone gotten an LE from CoinTaker from this latest run? I have one pre-ordered and was trying to figure out when to expect it. Seems like quite a few other places have already gotten their allotment and shipped them.

I did not order from Cointaker, but I am also still waiting on mine. My distributer reached out a couple weeks ago and said to expect it some time mid-to-end November. Fingers-crossed!

Quoted from arcyallen:

Can anyone report back on any issues they've had with the LE re-run? I'm just digging into Wonka for the first time and I know JJP and Stern had playfield issues for a couple of years. Can I safely assume those issues are ironed out?
And speaking of issues, looking at the key posts it seems there are only two or so issues that are common out of the box. Is this really true? I'm used to seeing a laundry list to address. Rick and Morty's list will make your head spin...

No issues here after having just got it 3 days ago. Has about 100 games played so far. Out of the box and before first play, I added switch slot protectors and replaced the black washers under the slings with clear ones. I put mylar rings down first then the clear washers actually. Also added a mylar ring around kid magnet. Game is a blast!

Is the auto-launch bracket supposed to sit as low as this? I'm wondering if it is positioned too low because the washer and e-clip holding the spring onto the shooter rod keep contacting the back edge of the bracket when plunging the ball and I don't believe that should be happening.

Quoted from LTG:

Inside the cabinet loosen the three screws holding the plunger assembly and lower it a tiny bit and retighten the screws.
LTG : )

Quoted from insight75:

This is a fairly common issue I've seen on a lot of different machines that you have to make some minor adjustments to the plunger assembly. Always good to loosen up and align so the tip is in the middle of the ball and to ensure no obstructions.

Thanks LTG and @insight75. I had to mess around with the assembly for a while but finally got it so that there is no interference.

Quoted from RobbyIRL5:

So apparently I've lost my mind. Got a couple of pictures of the new LE's, and its the same as the CE, although haven't had anybody complain about the same issue. Maybe they made that switch arm longer. I'm not sure what I thought I saw.
Anybody with a new LE have the issue with the switch arm/roller coming over the target bracket on top?

None yet (knock on wood)

Quoted from Rager170:

there are 3 - 5? of them under the playfield around the circular dot clusters(they dont do much). Then you have the kid multiball.

The magnets on mine can sling that ball around pretty crazily. There have been occasions where the ball has reversed direction 180 degrees. Odd to see but rare. Typically, the magnets mess with my ability to anticipate when and where the ball will hit on the flippers. I do feel like they do a lot, though, when they're activated.

#10473 2 years ago
Quoted from zaphX:

Those magnets cause lots of unexpected ball yanks. You'll see them in multiballs mostly.

Yep, during the multiballs. Maybe I'm looking up the playfield a bit more and notice it more that way. Probably when there are only 2 bouncing around and I can afford to look away from the flippers for a moment longer. But I have seen the ball take some wacky direction reversals and changes. Just another fun element of the game!

Quoted from PlayPin:

Happened to glance up and see the scene where Charlie Bucket finds a silver dollar in the street drain while I was playing. Not sure what I did? Wondering if this has something to do with the lost Golden ticket? Not really sure what I did when I get a golden ticket yet. With enough play I suppose I will figure out how to purposefully go after them.

I believe that Charlie video plays when you get the special award. I have that set as an extra ball on my machine. I don't recall if that is the default setting or not, though, so what it does may be different for you.

Btw, I am a 3rd owner of an SE Wonka and saw the camera indicator / red light was out. Tried many ways to fix it, but ultimately realized it had been wired wrong from the factory presumably. Pulled a wire out and put it the right spot and now it works. Curious if mine was the only one.

Hmm... I'll have to start paying more attention because I haven't noticed the light working on my machine. I wonder if I have a similar issue. Unless it's very subtle, I think I would have noticed it turning on and off by now.

Apparently my Wonka has a screw manufacturing plant under the glass. I've found a total of four screws rolling down the playfield.

Same here. I know of some others done have an issue either.

I have both on as well. However, I had to move the rubber down slightly on one of the posts or else the ball would get stuck.

Quoted from Thot:

hi bros, i don't find anywhere information about gobstoppers on the center of the screnn, start game with 2, there is 5 slot for them but what is those significations?

To get one of the 5 golden tickets, you need to collect 5 gobstoppers. The default setting is to spot 2 at the beginning but that can be adjusted. A gobstopper is collected during gobstopper multiball...shoot the ramps X times and then the gobstopper hole opens up, hit that hole and get a gobstopper jackpot and a gobstopper will be collected and added to the screen. Repeat until you get all 5 to get the golden ticket. I believe the # of ramp shots increases for each gobstopper multiball started.

It hasn't been fixed on my later build. The playfield, however, seems to be holding up well! Beautiful, actually.

I don't recall if it was in this thread or elsewhere, but I had read that JJP games should be turned off with the power toggle switch and not via a smart plug. Something about shutting it down by a smart plug may cause it to not boot up next time. Is this true? @pghpinballrescue, do you know anything about that?

#11468 1 year ago
Quoted from allsportdvd:

2 out of every 3 times I lock a ball in the Gobstopper the ball when it pops back into the shooter lane bounces off the metal rail on the right and into the outlane thereby draining my ball.
Is there a setting to turn down the power of the coil on that vuk or another solution?

It bounces over the ~1.5" guiderail on the left? Wow! That is one heck of a kick out. There's got to be a setting to adjust that. I'd look for that first before trying anything else. Otherwise, maybe stick some foam on the right rail to deaden the impact a bit. Nothing too thick that interferes with the ball traveling up and down the lane, though.

#11473 1 year ago
Quoted from PghPinballRescue:

A smart plug will make absolutely no difference.
You could rip the plug out of the wall, use the power switch, or a smart switch.
They all do the same thing...disconnect the power to the machine abruptly.
I believe the issue you are referring to is when the computer's battery dies, it will cause bootup issues, but there are many articles on how to jump start the PC.
I'm wondering if someone had a dead battery and they blamed it on the smart plug, and it just became a "thing" since then.
I can tell you that I have many many customers who has all of their machines plugged into smart plugs and they get a kick out of "Hey Alexa, turn on Willy Wonka" and just hat machine turns on. Or "Hey Alexa, turn on the game room" and all the machines turn on.

Quoted from Rager170:

Agreed. It would be different if the Machine performed some sort of safe shutdown with coding but it doesnt. It just shuts off.

Good to know. I have my other games set up on smart plugs but was hesitant to do that on JJP games. I will now! Thanks!

I had to buy a new spring for mine.. But my alignment of my wonka shooter lane is never able to line up. Holes for the rod werent put in properly. Not an issue at this point with a bunch of tweaking but is annoying.

I had an alignment issue with stock shooter rod as well. The rod was hitting the auto-launch mechanism during every manual plunge. I had to angle the rod downward to correct, but it took several attempts before getting to that solution.

The Golden Ticket Summary is awesome! Last night I was able to get 4 golden tickets for the first time. I concentrated on the kid multiball and took zaphX advice to make sure I got the kid jackpots. Since that was my first time getting the Kid golden ticket, I was hoping for some clarification on a couple things. A kid jackpot can only be awarded for those kids that are active at the time, i.e. previously collected, right? Also, to get the kid jackpot award, do you only have to hit the corresponding shot once, e.g. shoot left ramp once to get Veruca jackpot?

#11964 1 year ago

I had another 4 golden ticket game last night and got to the Most Secret Machine mode (I think that is what it was called). I was not expecting it but, man, what a fun mode! I felt like a little kid when it started! That Wonkavator golden ticket #5 is tough to get (at least it is for me) so I'm glad JJP designed this Most Secret Machine mode as it may be as far as I ever progress. I'll keep trying, though!!

Wow I'm super pleased that this Gate mod has struck a chord with so many of you! I'm doing my best to keep up with the orders and looking forward to you early adopters' feedback! THANKS!

Just installed that gate mod today. I feel like it blends into the game well and doesn't mess with the aesthetics. Plus it was easy to install. I played a few games and it definitely reduced the number of drains. I think I did get one out of the pops that went SDTM during a multiball. Overall...it is a nice, inventive solution to a problem that many of us have had. Thanks Travahontas

I am having an issue with Wonkavator where super lock is lit, the ball diverts appropriately, gets kicked up to the Wonkavator but then is immediately released.

The ball typically is diverted to the upper left flipper most of the time right after release, thankfully, and I can make the shot again. But it can take a few tries before the ball will eventually lock. This doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes it does lock on the first attempt. And it occurs regardless if it is ball lock 1, 2, or 3. Any thoughts on what is going on or what to check?

#12353 1 year ago
Quoted from jackd104:

Check the solenoid that controls the white plastic plunger which holds/releases the balls, and check that the four screws securing the coil,s bracket are in place and tight.

Quoted from arcyallen:

I had this exact same problem. I looked hard at it, took a few pieces apart to make sure it was all correct, and reassembled it.
Of course, it's worked since. Because the steps I took above seem to fix 80% of my oddball issues
I will add, check your optos in that trough. Several people here said they've had issues with those.

Nothing loose that I noticed. Optos are registering fine and ball release coil fires correctly. I reseated some cables and played a few games. Still have the issue but seemed less often than before. Makes me wonder if there is something going wrong with that data cable or a poor connection to the board. I need to spend more time looking at it.

I had to reposition this plastic over the captive ball since it had shifted. I've heard this piece tends to break easily. What purpose does it serve? Does it prevent an air ball from getting hung up on top of that captive ball mech?

I was working towards the kid golden ticket. I had 6 out of the 7 jackpots collected and only needed to get the super jackpot. That's just the kid shot, right? I got another kid multiball going (just 1 kid, Charlie) and during that multiball, I hit that kid shot. I was expecting that to be it and I that I would be awarded that golden ticket, but it did not. Is there more that I needed to do, like hit the captive ball afterwards or something like that? Or is the super jackpot more than just a single kid shot?

#12433 1 year ago
Quoted from jackd104:

For the golden ticket you need to get at least one regular jackpot from each kid, the super jackpot, and the double kid jackpot. You can do it across different multiball instances. You can see your progress by holding left flipper then cycling to the golden ticket status screen.

Yep, I was looking at my progress and had 6 out of the necessary 7 jackpots, was just missing the super jackpot. Maybe I should ask, how is the super jackpot collected in the kid multiball?

#12435 1 year ago
Quoted from zaphX:

Qualify it first by making the kid jackpots for whatever kids you started KidMB with, then shoot it when it's flashing.

Ahhh...makes sense. Thanks

Quoted from ray3127:

I put the Cliffy on around the kid multiball magnet (carbon fiber washer), and from time to time it traps the ball directly on top of the magnet.
Nudging sometimes frees it up, but I have to be pretty forceful and sometimes tilt.
When ball search engages/disengages the magnet, the ball comes loose. But that takes a while.
Whether nudging or waiting for ball search, the flow/timing of the game is interrupted.
Any fixes other than taking the Cliffy off?

If you are going to leave the cliffy on, consider increasing the pitch a bit and try to tackle the ball hang-up that way. Otherwise, I'm not sure.

Did anyone install the coil cooling fans ? I've been having long plays lately with a lot of multi balls and at some points I feel it gets really difficult to get the balls up the ramps. Not sure if it's me and my bad skills or if my coils get too hot, but wondering if it would help.

Quoted from arcyallen:

First off, I've never noticed fade on any pin so either I'm an idiot, or it doesn't exist. Please don't tell me which you think is true
Have you bumped up the flipper power at all? Bumping up two notches makes it feel like you injected it with steroids.

Quoted from zaphX:

Hey frens,
This time I need the tech help. I'm in covid isolation (thanks, Texas Covid Festival!) and my wife reports that Wonka upstairs is not locking wonkavator balls when super lock is lit.
Indeed I observed the same behavior the last time I played, before I got sick.
Does anyone know what to look for on this one?
- Blocked or dirty opto?
- Diverter failing to engage, maybe it lost a wire?
I have to admit being ignorant to what makes this part of the game work.

Sorry to hear that you're down with covid. The one and only time I got it was after a business trip to Dallas. Dang Texans!!

Does it keep kicking the ball up and then immediately release it? And may do it several times before it eventually locks? If so, I've had this same issue. I cleaned the optos and looked for loose components but no resolution found. It's an odd issue because it is correctly diverting and kicking the ball up and it correctly senses that the ball is in the Wonkavator, but it incorrectly releases it.

It may be tied to a bad opto. I wonder if one of the optos is getting tripped more than once as the ball goes by and maybe that tricks the system into believing more than one ball has been locked so it releases one. I haven't tested that theory yet. It happens so intermittently that it might be hard to nail down. I may just end up replacing all the optos and see if that fixes everything because I'm not sure what else to look at at this point.

Quoted from zaphX:

Does your game have the airball plastic on top of the right wireform?

Yes, it does have that. I didn't see when the ball fatally struck the oompa loompa so not sure how it occurred. I even have ulekstore mod to help protect that area. My guess is an odd bounce going up the left ramp.

I can't hit the spinner from the upper left flipper even if my life depended on it. Most of the shots seem to hit the tip of the upper right flipper.
I've tried everything but it just seems like the geometry is off?
Any tips? I'm not a great player but it seems like a shot I should be able to make and watching gameplay vids people seem to make it easily.

Quoted from arcyallen:

I was having a similar issue with my Rollercoaster Tycoon. Here's what I recommend: Try making that shot TOO early, so that it immediately fails to launch. Then start making it later and later until the ball actually makes it to the other side of the playfield. If it's still low, something needs to be adjusted. For me, I was just making the shot too late despite being 100% confident the flipper wasn't functioning properly.
Always beware 100% confidence!

Yep, it is definitely a shot you want to take earlier (higher up on the flipper) than what you think. Once you find out, though, it will become fairly routine to make.

any Ideas. Just played a game the other night and all the flippers seemed weak. I have hard time making the top ramp from upper right flipper, including the other 2 ramps from bottom flippers. That's never happened before and I've only played this game about 15 times with no issues

Maybe check power cord to see if fully inserted and not loose. Or possibly the power supply is going out...not enough getting to the flippers?

A bad coil stop or coil sleeve can sap power, too. Would be strange to have that happen to all flippers at same time, though.

Just throwing suggestions out there.

So is it bad to turn flippers up to 26?

Probably helps with less rejects from the ramps, particularly that left one which has a tendency to go sdtm. But it's at the risk of ball hops and causing damage. Oompa loompa cameraman is a vulnerable area. Mine has broke and I know so have others.

I’m at 24 for left flipper and 23 for right now will see how that goes. Also pitch was 6.9. Took it down to 6.6. Still fast and spinner shot feels better now. Making shots in multiballs a bit easier now. Great fun game!

This game is awesome. Highly underrated IMO.

Jeez played this game two days ago. Played at Red stone gothenburg sweden (fantastic place with lots of high end games)
Here i was thinking hobbit is jjp´s best and i honestly dont like anything by lawlor. (until now)
This pin is great or maybe even the greatest.
Instantly fell in love with it. Played three games or so and got two golden tickets. played wonkas office without realizing it. LOL
(there seems to be a lot to doo)
None for sale in europe, so is there any chance you think it will be vaulted in the future?
(seems to me both ts4 and gf are duds?)

You never know, but I haven't heard any rumors that more will be made and I doubt there will be. There was already a 2nd run of these a couple years ago.

What mods are popular? Back in the club and hoping to add a few. Thinking a wonkavator, Gob stopper shooter rod and side art? I like the factory upgrade as well. Looks like Lermods, mezel and modfather have the best options.

All those mods are nice. I think something to protect against ball strikes to the camera area would be good. Some have had the Oompa busted off, myself included. Ulekstore sells a pile of chocolates bars to guard that area. There is another, more expensive protector but I've forgotten who sells it.

Gosh, too tight even for mirrors? Pinball Life now offers a dope set of adhesive mirrors for Stern cabinets. I say "dope" because, with that adhesive, they lie oh-so flat, which helps with clearance. Unfortunately, I don't see them offered for B/W/JJP cabinets.

This site has mirror blades that would fit and can be held with double-sided tape https://www.pinballdecals.com/MirrorBladesPage.html . I have these in an AFMr. I did not get mirror blades for Wonka, though, because of the tightness. I went with art blades instead and use blade protectors when raising/lowering the pf

Hmm. Another vote: "No." Got it.
I love the mirrors in AFMrLE. Perfect playfield for mirrors!
And please tell me which art blades swayed you.

I prefer mirrors over art but I went with the factory walls look for Wonka... https://cointaker.com/products/willy-wonka-gameblades. It looks like Lermods didn't have an issue with their mirror blades so perhaps there is more room than I originally thought.

Anyone have a fix for the pin wiggling loose over time above the gobstopper hole mechanism? Will try to post a picture when I fix it again tomorrow. About 3rd time in several months since owning the game.

Yes. I reached out to JJP and they sent a new piano hinge assembly to swap in. I haven't had an issue since.

Post Rubber or No Post Rubber?
I discovered there isn't room for a 7/16 OD post rubber on each of the two posts on the left side of the left inlane. With two in place, the ball can't pass between the two posts and down into the left-side inlane. This has me wondering: did Lawlor intend for the middle post to have NO rubber? What are all of you doing about this? I searched high/low in my rubber trapper and found the smallest post rubbers I could find and they are still big enough to block that lane.

Mine was getting trapped as well in that leftmost inlane. I ended up moving the rubber on the post next to the outlane a bit lower. That post is in the lower position, too (closest to player). It still provides some bounce back but ball makes it through the leftmost inlane just fine now.

Isnt the gate mod a one way gate? Meaning shooting up into it would allow it to flip back and still make the shot you mentioned?

Yes, it is one way and doesn't take away from that shot at all.

#13506 4 months ago
Quoted from PoMC:

OK, thanks for the clarification. When I looked at the video on a computer monitor, I could see more clearly. The gate doesn’t cover the entire orbit entrance.
I’ll be ordering one. I don’t think it would be considered cheating because a lot of games have a smaller version of this gate on orbits to provide a cleaner feed. Medieval madness, for example.

I think you'll like this mod. Makes the game a bit less frustrating. Looks factory, too.

Quoted from PoMC:

Travahontas Graciously sent me his Wonka pop bumpers gate mod. I received it right before I went on vacation and was able to install it last night. Install was easy to follow with the excellent instructions provided.
This gate/ball diverter mod diverts balls exiting from the pops area and forces them to exit along the metal ball rail. This certainly eliminated the cheap SDTM drains I was getting. This is a fun mod for less experienced players to enjoy more of the game and for anyone trying to get further than they have before.
If you have your game set to 5 balls, install this mod and set back to 3 balls.
I played one game with the gate installed and came within 200K of my Grand Champion score of 56.8 million. Set a bunch of other high scores and killed it during Most Secret Machine with 7 balls hit into the Gobstopper. I didn't reach Pure Imagination though like I did with my GC game.
I did miss the unpredictability of the random ball exits from the pops, as well as the speed the balls would normally exit during multiballs.
The mod does exactly what it is intended to do. Well done!

You will probably still get a SDTM once in a while. The unpredictability is still there, just less so in my experience. It is a very good mod for this game.

You’re probably right Wonka will need body armor for sure!
Grand kids want to see the new Wonka movie has anyone on here seen this and what do you think?

We saw it. It's OK...more musical than I had expected. I think your grandkids will enjoy it. Timothy Chalamet is definitely a better Wonka than Johnny Depp.

The Wonkavator golden ticket remains the hardest one for me to get. I'm still chasing that elusive 5 golden ticket game!

Quoted from Pizzaman13:

Screen is washing out, happens a lot during multiball. May happen other times but don’t look up that often when ball is in play. Most of the time the screen is in full vibrant color. Thoughts?

Were you in the Wonkatania Mania mode? That mode makes the screen look washed out. I'd describe it as psychedlic-looking.

ULEKstore’s candy bar mod that goes in front of the camera is said to help. I haven't had a problem with having the right ramp covered from the start.

I can attest to the Ulek chocolate bar mod. My oompa was taken out once before but has been standing upright ever since installing the mod.

As others have said, I've had no problems or air balls with the right ramp either.
