Quoted from zaphX:

DI didn't move me at first but I'm seriously thinking about getting one.

Its dam good.... wonka and di are my top pins of all time

Quoted from Rager170:

I know but I am the type of person who absolutely hates changing it from the factory. I like to know that if I were to play this elsewhere, it would be under the same conditions. Granted, that will probably never happen but.... I also like to see how I compare to others with scores and changing the game makes that harder... Not that I ever think my scores are anything special, but knowing where others are at gives me a goal.

Quoted from Rager170:

And currently, I dont even have a post in the left side. I was told that stock setting with no post.

Quoted from Rager170:

hahaha, thats not what ive heard from this thread.

No game plays the same so don't compare to much ...plus no one knows what's others have really changed. You sld at least add the post on the left to the lowest hole...mine was on there when I bought it so I left it and am happy how it plays. Also put the pin at 7-7.2 between the flippers and that will help with pop drains.. I rarely get any. I still have many crap games buy then 1/10 or so will be really good. No point to get so frustrated that the pin loses it's fun factor especially when a few tweaks can drastically help this. Good luck on the wonka journey.

Quoted from Doctor6:

Where would you guys rank Wonka amongst the other JJP games, now that the honey moon period is over?

Wonka
Di
Potc
Hobbit
Woz
However all are super amazing and well above the competition imo and I just personally perfer the layouts and rules on wonka and di over the others which y they are my fav

A

Remember wonka is a tough pin and the pop bumpers are very dangerous. On the le the ball goes into them much less and you also get alot more chances for the skill shot / award scoop on the le when the Wonkavator catches a ball. That's just one thing the le has over the standard...the array of extra game controlled rgb flashers and lights are a great addition along with the extra spot light in that area. Add in the gorgeous art and powder coated armor and wireforms package with the invisaglass and shaker and it's one of the most beautiful pins I've owned. The headphone and external volume control is a nice touch too. The standard is a great value but if u think wonka may be a keeper (most have that bought one) I'd go for the full amazing package bc jts a really great one.

#5060 3 years ago

Common for ball trails from wire form exit to flippers... it's not wear just grime and dirt with small metal particles from the wire forms. The ramps get hit alot especially the center and left. They wipe clean very easily but if your worried put mylar down . Its happens less on powder coated wire forms but still gets dirty in that area. This is the most common place I wipe down on my games.

#5076 3 years ago
Quoted from rrosenhouse:

Just curious... On your Wonka, where does the ball end up after being rescued by the kickback? Does it go into the GUM targets? Spinner? Somewhere else?
Did you have to tweak the kickback settings to achieve the desired location?

It varies depending on the speed it enters the outlane. More often than not mine goes to spinner lane.

#5135 3 years ago
Quoted from GorillaBiscuits:

I certainly wouldn’t mind a Pirates where DI sits, but my bank account would!

Di is better imo.. and I have potcle next to it .... but wonka is the top imo.

#5136 3 years ago

I get double digit spinner hits also. The spinner bracket can be manipulated somewhat and if ajusted/bent correctly it really helps the spinner spin better. After a while the bracket gets pushed/bent upwards and the spinner don't spin as well and the ball doesn't hit it as solid eaither . So mess around with that ...

#5137 3 years ago

All jjp pins are amazing tho so whatever you choose will be ok. Also remember potc is difficult to find and if u do its usually around 12k for a le. Also while wonka and di share the same designer and some shot similarities ...I think they play differently enough that I'd be very happy having them as a 2 pin collection for years....heck they are really all I play anyhow in my collection lol.

Quoted from zaphX:

I broke a part, the captive ball cover 30-100028-04 pictured here:
It looks like it will be a while due to the move, which got me wondering if this part could be improved by someone with a CNC router.
I see two problems with this part:
1. The two "teeth" sticking out are thin (one of mine broke) and also do not extend down enough to prevent the guard from rotating out of position. I believe this could be improved by making the teeth thicker and longer, such that the wireform would hold the guard in position.
2. I've had stuck balls land on the top edge of this guard - if it were a little bit taller, I believe that would correct this.
Anyone else care to comment?
[quoted image]

Yea I'd be up for a improved one also.. mine broke a while ago. Since it broke I get more airballs out of that area too...so wld be nice for a better one..

#5179 3 years ago
Quoted from delt31:

Guess who's back?
Standard has to be the best value in Pinball.
So far my concerns of having DI and Wonka together and them feeling too similar are no longer there. Def feel different enough. I can't get enough Pat.

Yep my 2 favorite pins of all time with Wonka le edging out dile by just a little...mostly due to lighting and the 4 flipper layout.

#5196 3 years ago

Wonder if some are having sound issues? Mine sounds great without a polk but it does enhance it alot when on. The hobbit sounds the best of the jjp pins imo but overall jjp pins sound much better than any other company I have owned.

#5197 3 years ago
Quoted from delt31:

I can't recommend this enough. Without a sub, the sound is so thin. Prob the worst I've heard of all jjp when not using a sub. In general though there sound isn't as full as the others.
Polk 10 are on all my machines. Big upgrade. Forget updating internal sub or speakers - external I find is the best bang for your buck.
I also recommend tweaking the tv. Colors were washed out beforehand.

Any numbers you can list to set mine at? Mine looks good overall but di and potc do look sharper and more vivid.

#5198 3 years ago
Quoted from Noma2017:

Great to hear. Seriously considering pairing DILE with my Wonka CE without having played DILE.

I've owned most top pins and I wld be completely happy if dile and wonka le were my only 2 . I have some great others now but only wonka and di have been played over the past 6 months or so.

#5200 3 years ago
Quoted from romulusx:

That’s the problem with these two pins, you don’t want to play anything else!

Yep at this point I sld just sell everything else which I may actually do .. cld be.a nice down payment on land or new house..

#5205 3 years ago

Wonka is plenty deep and the game can be a butt kicker. I guess u cld say its similar to di but its probably even deeper due to needing to earn the golden tickets to get to the mini wizard
Modes which is difficult . I've had up to 3 tickets but it don't happen much lol. Most games are pretty short but 2 out of 10 I'll have some good things going. Amazing pin which plays so awesome .

#5206 3 years ago
Quoted from romulusx:

And a down payment on Toy Story!

Yes for sure

#5219 3 years ago
Quoted from jimbodeanny:

Interesting. I've never once thought the sound quality was bad on my Wonka. It doesn't sound tinny or lowfi at all to me. With all of the recent chatter here about adding an external sub, I had to fire up my LE and take a second listen, but my opinion still hasn't changed. Early on, before I owned my machine, I looked into possibly trying the Pinwoofer setup, but for $200+, I couldn't justify it, especially since it would be nothing more than an experiment to see if it really made much difference. Personally, I think the game sounds fantastic, very rich, crisp and full. Wonka is also a game (and theme) that I would never expect to pump out deeper bass tones. I mean, watch the movie and listen to the score/soundtrack -- it's mostly on the high end. I could be in the minority here, but to me the game sounds great.

Agreed also.. jjp pins all sound great and have the best stock sound out of all manufacturers from my experience.

#5224 3 years ago
Quoted from davisjl1979:

I agree. The hobbit and pirates both had great sound when I owned them. Dialed in sounds great. That’s why it is obvious to me that something is off with Wonka. It doesn’t sound like the other JJP games.
Maybe it’s just my game in particular.

I'm not sure but I'm happy with my wonka sound and notice no reall difference from dile and potcle next to it

#5226 3 years ago
Quoted from romulusx:

I did notice a difference right away, my DILE doesn’t have a sub. It’s the only pin I have that doesn’t because it’s good out of box

Wonder if there are board differences or something different with the speakers on some of the wonka pins?

#5262 3 years ago
Quoted from daveyvandy:

Having had to do the power reset on the CPU, I found this video helpful. It seems like on all JJP machines, you can use a paper clip on the exact same harness between a green and black wire, instead of poking around on the pins on the motherboard which vary depending on what motherboard was installed in your machine.

Great video... gonna miss butch...

#5264 3 years ago
Quoted from Rager170:

Curious.. why would you need to do this?

Watch the video.. he explains y it can happen.

#5272 3 years ago
Quoted from romulusx:

Am I the only one that wants to knee cap Kaneda everytime he talks shit about Wonka?

so dam annoying about everything.. not just wonka
..so much so I had to change my settings on fb so I don't c his crap anymore . For someone who doesn't even have a pin and seems to rarely play..sure has a lot of crap to say. Very annoying to say the least ...plus he's never ever wrong and has a awnser for everything lol. Can't believe so many people follow and believe his nonsense about pins and can't make their own opinions.

#5288 3 years ago
Quoted from leaffan67:

Hi All
I have been playing a lot of Wonka standard lately as I borrowed one. I really like the game, a lot. Shoots well and there is some genius in the rules. Seems like every game is different as the machine sends you in different directions and you have to adapt.
I asked earlier about any issues with the Wonkavator mech on the LE as this is not present on the Std. Seems to be no mechanical issues that anyone reported.
I am now wondering if the LE plays "better" than the standard due to the Wonkavator mech, or any other differences. Never played (or even seen!) an LE so i don't know if all the feeds are the same, etc. Very tempted to find me a late manufacture LE (to avoid any clearcoat issues allegedly with the early ones). Just want to know if there are any gameplay differences and whether they might even make it better!
stay safe!

Hi guys, my Gobstopper target is intermittent AF. Sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it never works, and sometimes it triggers in a frenzy of a thousand hits (without actually hitting it - usually when the lock is open and also can be triggered by tapping the flippers ie vibrations).
Any ideas? I don't think it's the microswitch because you can sometimes literally touch it with your finger and it still doesn't do what it's supposed to.
I've also got a noisy gobstopper but I think I can fix that.
This is a rental machine and I've noticed the last guy has tightened the spring on the bash thingy - obvs to get it to trigger less.
Rental guy has offered to send out a tech to fix it, but I'll see if I can do something about it via you guys first

Sld just b a switch adjustment...

Just pulled the trigger on a NIB Wonka LE. Stoked. Not sure when i'll get it, but excited. Is it good to go out of the box, or any mandatory upgrades needed? I'll probably do the LED in the backglass as it seems to look a lot nicer.

Nothing is mandatory really except maybe some mylar and cliffys in some places but there are alot of nice mods that really dress up the playfield and help enhance the world under glass look and feel. Here's mine with some stuff 20191207_170737 (resized).jpg20191207_170737 (resized).jpg

Game needs to be perfectly level to not get so many drains from pops. Not just between the flippers but also level at middle of playfield so make sure to check both places. If it still happens a fair amount put the back right leg up a few extra turns ....this will help ball go to left flipper tip most the time. Game is very sensitive to small differences much like the di theater.

I'm hoping to b try my game for awhile with the playfield magnets off. Any easy way to do this? I've scoured the settings and haven't found anything. I've also gone through the manual a bit to see if there is a simple connector that could be unplugged, but couldn't find anything. I could de-solder the wires. Might do this but was hoping for a more easily reversible option. Has anyone else found the magnets a bit annoying? (Not the kid multiball lane magnet)

I love the randomness of the 6 magnets . There sld b a setting for them I'd think but if not they sld have a plug to each set of 3 magnets .

Your right there is no setting like there is on dialed in .... weird. Hopefully the next code update one cld be added ? Have a off, minimum , normal, high and crazy. Anyhow I believe you cld unplug each set of 3 magnets pretty easily .

#5775 3 years ago
Quoted from Lrrr:

Looks like undoing these two connectors did the trick. Hopefully didn't disable anything else
[quoted image][quoted image]

Yea I figured it wasn't much but their really sld be a option in the menu like di. That way a person can set them like they want.

#5781 3 years ago
Quoted from Rager170:

I could have sworn that I saw a setting for this over the weekend when looking for something else.
Where are the magnets? I thought it was talking about the KID magnet or something.

There is a magnet and core at the far left(kid multiball)that can catch the ball. However there are 6 smaller magnets in between the 6 circles of light clusters....and depending on what the lights are doing the magnets are active.

hey guys,
I finally reached pure imagination on this game, albeit with the game settings on what i would consider "medium", but not easy.
anyways, I think this game is the best game ever, or at least top 3 of all time. Lawlor is the best designer IMO, and his pedigree is unmatched.
However, I was sorely disappointed in the final wizard mode. i feel like it was anti-climactic, and underwhelming. does anyone else feel this way? honestly, i think the super secret machine mode is the best wizard mode, with oompa loompa and office being tied for second.
I feel like there could have been so much more with the lights and music than what was presented at the final Pure imagination mode.
your thoughts.

Unfortunately many of us haven't seen most of what is in the code lol.. what I have seen over the past year tho I think is very good and well thought out.

Started playing Wonka and di a lot lately as my working season is slowly calming down and coming to a end. I think once all the dust settles from g@r hype Wonka and di will still stand out as amazing shooters with awesome flow. Yes the g@r package in general is amazing and special and cant wait to get one hopefully soon but wonka and di will still hold their own as they have amazing packages also. Great thing about jjp pins is everyone is so different and offers such a different experience from one another. Whenever I get my new home with a big basement gameroom I will have all the jjp pins bc they are all a great experience imo.

Realized today that my camera is not working. Likely never worked out of the box either because no high score photos are displayed from the prior owner. He bought it new and build date is Feb 2020. No big deal, I'll submit a help ticket for it. I tried plugging the camera into other USB ports, but camera is not detected in test mode.
I noticed it not working because it wasn't detecting motion and playing sounds during the day. I use my bar as a stand up desk for work and Dialed In will occasionally detect me and startle me when it plays an attract sound. Then I was like, hey, wonka is supposed to do that also.

Stupid question but its turned on in the settings correct?

I’ve been considering a used WW vs a stern Star Wars or tmnt. How much does the le add vs se when considering used prices? I really like the look of the le better, but aside from the the lock, is it worth going LE?

All jjp pins are amazing and steps above everything else made imo and they all play different and cld b a great collection on their own. I've had them all but sold rrwoz and smaug hobbit to get Wonka and potc and I bought dile nib bc I fell in love with it first time I seen and played it.
I pretty much only play my jjp pins and will probably sell off others to have a all jjp collection. Having dile and Wonkale together is no issue as they are different experiences. Also I believe I seen someone say di was 4 flipper game.... it's only a 3 .

#7142 3 years ago

Dile and wonkale are my favorite 2 pins ever. I hope I never have to chose lol. Both are top notch and I have so much fun everytime I play them.....even after years of ownership and thousands of games on each. Also having both in the same collection is not a issue as they play very differently and code/rules are set up very different also.

Quoted from Flipper_McGavin:

Did Jersey Jack stop production of Wonkas indefinitely? It doesn't feel like they built all 5,000 of the Limited editions. Every time something ends production, the sudden urge from others to want it kicks in.

All new pins from here on out.. no reason to go back. If u want a jjp older title u sld probably start looking as there are not many of any left nib. Plus they are so busy with g@r and getting new titles ready for release I just don't see them having the time ...at least for a long while . Y go back ? Just keep releasing awesome new pins that are amazing and that's all they need.

Guys, you all need to buy a four pack of LED lights with usb connector and light up the back of the Playfield. it is a must have mod. another poster on here did it, and i just did it today. game changer! I prefer blue lights in the back; it shines well off the blue PF. anyway, the ball is more trackable with that added lighting feature. I bought mine on amazon for 13 dollars. best lighting mod I've done yet.
18 months and 1300 games later, this game gets better and better. excited for Toy Story! How in the world will Lawlor outdo himself this time? my goodness, the possibilities!

U must have a se? The le has lots of extra rgb lights in the back ....a few big rgb flashers and a extra spot light also.

New code has some nice additions .Noticed a few different callouts and some different lighting effects also. So what do I need to add to my usb to get wifi ? Guess I will need a bluetooth dongle like di uses also.

Im loving the new code! This is easily my favorite JJP game. Its there best shooting and funnest coded game yet. What do you guys consider the perfect stack to setup if you could?

Agreed and I'm still on code 1.34..I also think dialed in feels like what a modern b/w pin wld be if they were still around.

#8813 2 years ago

Well dam.. I need to get a wifi dongle so I can get this new awesome code from the sounds it. And yes wonka and di are amazing pins and my top 2 ever ..... potc is also good but I love the way wonka and di play and the code is more easily understood.

Skill shot question... Running 1.38LE- When going for the super skill shot (holding left flipper) if the ball goes into the saucer from the plunge- why is that skill shot awarded?
Shouldn’t going for the super skill shot cancel out the 2 easier skill shots?? “You get nothing” would fit here.
It seems odd there is no penalty for going for the super skill shot....

Weird.. it must been changed or something bc it does exactly what u said it don't for me lol.. only thing is it don't say the quote everytime but more like once every 4-5 times or so...

Quoted from wonkavator:

Hi all! New to Pinside and a complete novice when it comes to modifying or repairing my machine. Purchased a CE of Wonka last year brand new and the switch to open/close the gobstopper hole (switch 31) stopped working. Purchased a new switch but have no idea how to install it. Know anyone in MA, NH or ME who does repair and knows JJ machines well? Nervous to have someone work on it that doesn't have knowledge of this game, willing to pay well for the right person to help fix it! Thanks in advance - love seeing all the other WONKA lovers here.

Wondering if the switch just needs ajusted and not replaced? I know it can pop out of ajustment sometimes and need a piece wedged in it to make it work correctly.

Was hoping the new code wld become official by now.. guess I'll have to get a wifi dongle and try beta

#9258 2 years ago

Great update.. great game got even better. This game is so underrated... however seems many people are starting to figure out how amazing it truly is.

Quoted from TonyScoots:

There’s something definitely not working right, I uploaded a video of the spinner action and I think there’s some kind of resistance especially against the leaf switch. It stops mid-stream

Just need to ajust the metal switch arm so it's not as tight when down . If u loosen the 2 switch screws the entire switch can ajust which will change the metal arm height

Quoted from yonizzell:

Bummer! Got my game set up and it wouldn’t start a game (searching for balls). Went into the switch matrix and 5 switches showed as bad. After a lot of troubleshooting, I discovered that if I disconnect the little circuit board to the saucer under the Wonka Vision, the switch errors go away and the game starts and plays fine. Anyone else had a problem with one of these sensor boards?
[quoted image]

Try cleaning it first as it gets dirty and can cause issues.

#9453 2 years ago
Quoted from yonizzell:

You are the man BigD! Cleaning fixed the issue. Normally on a Williams or Bally game that’s what I would think of first but for some reason I was thinking that sensor was some kind of an Eddie or magnetic sensor, so cleaning it never came to mind. I feel like a dummy, but I’m glad the game is functional! Thanks again!

Awesome..glad your back in action... it's such a great game... hope all is well with u

wow ULE’s UNLIMITED EDITIONS!!!
i wont buy i wont support a company that has playfield chipping issues and blames their customers. someone make a F U JJP thread

Quoted from insight75:

Can't be more than 5K made though right? I'm assuming they still had a few more to make?

Correct ..they didn't make all 5k le .they maybe made 1500( if they were lucky)so they are not making a unlimited le.. still a lot less made than they cld have....and only making a small run of 250 or so. From what I gather most distros altotmant is allready gone from this new run.. can't say I'm surprised...its a great game

They started including the right ramp air ball protector after the first run of standards and only a handful of le were missing it. U cld call and get one for free if it was missing . It will be on the new ones for sure.

Extra post can be added to the left with rubber if u use a certain type...

Thanks for the help. Where might one find that rubber?

#9703 2 years ago

Just really need to make sure the game is absolutely level from side to side I rarely get straight down the middle is from the pop bumpers

#9754 2 years ago
Quoted from bowtech:

Well, sure as shit while looking through the thread and see the broken cameras my mom's first play my camera broke at the base and his hand. I have glued it for now but would like to replace it. Any idea how to get a new one? I have sent JJ a couple of inquiries though their website in the last week and no response. Is there another place to get it or another way to reach someone?

Is your machine registered and are you filling out the correct support form on the website ? They always get back to me same day...usually within few hours.

Quoted from chaz009:

My plastic over the captive ball broke. I’ve only owned the game about a week. Is this a common issue? Is there a fix to prevent this from happening again?
Also, do you think my game is okay to play still? Not really sure what that piece of plastic was really doing anyways? You’d think it keeping the captive ball from popping out but the passage way is too narrow for a ball to fit through anyways.
I’ve contacted JJP for a replacement part already. I assume this should be a super easy fix? Take off nut, washer, broker piece, then replace? Silly question, I know, but I’ve assumed other jobs would be easy but they turned out to be much more involved that originally thought.

Common..and no big deal..keep on playing

Quoted from naf_llabnip:

Alligator clipped speaker wire to bottom cabinet speaker, ran wire to a cheapo Goodwill sub ($15 I think) that accepts speaker level inputs, and it sounds amazing now. I also was surprised at the lack of low frequencies with the original setup.

Yep powered subwoofer is a must for any pin in my home... such a amazing upgrade and cheap and easy to do

Quoted from pcprogrammer:

Yes, I've heard of that one but haven't found it yet.

Ive had it for years lol.. one day ill put it on

#9929 2 years ago
Quoted from pcprogrammer:

This is seriously the greatest pinball machine I've ever owned. Everyone in our house is playing it constantly everyday. You always want one more game. It's almost frustrating because I want 4 pins total and I can't decide on the 4th because nothing compares to the gameplay and code on this. I'd probably get a Pirates if they weren't so expensive so that's not an option. I'll have Star Trek Premium, Wonka LE, Cactus Canyon LE and... ???

G@r and di are also amazing or wait till jjp next release

#9931 2 years ago
Quoted from pcprogrammer:

Don't care for either enough to own, although gnr is beautiful! My short list now is Alien LE (would be a long wait), Hobbit LE, Mustang Premium (I know, weird choice but we like the gameplay and theme). Thought about Valhalla but changed my mind once we got Wonka.

Hobbit is amazing also
.its quite a experience and a must own for at least a bit.

Quoted from RobbyIRL5:

I've been away from my favorite game (Wonka) for awhile, came back to it and it's still in the #1 position (with GZ, IM, DP, and a few others in the neighborhood). That being said, since I played last and did a bunch of updates, did they get more aggressive with the playfield magnets? I feel like several times it aggressively took a ball that was headed towards a flipper and pulled it SDTM.

I believe so .. mine are wicked now much like di..

#9936 2 years ago
Quoted from bossk4hire:

Hopefully adding a Hobbit to compliment my wonka next Friday! Pumped for sure!

All jjp le pins are amazing and are all a different experience... wish i cld of kept them.all.but not enough room . Di and Wonka are my overall favorites but my new g@r is slowly catching up with them more i play it. Woz , hobbit and especially potc were great but i perfer the layout and rules of di Wonka and g@r

Quoted from Kenswift:

Love the game but I’m having another issue. When I plunge if it is landing just past the wonka vision, it’s somehow diverting into the wonkavator. Did it always do this? Not sure why I’m not thinking it did. Here’s a video. Any suggestions?

On plunge? That diverter sld not be open then. It must be stuck open or not closing all the way

Quoted from smalltownguy2:

Lifted my play field to begin a subwoofer install today, and found this screw. Anyone know where it might have come from? I did an initial inspection of the playfield but didn't really see any like this one. It has a star washer on it.
I did not look at the top side, just the bottom.

Hmm i found the same one.. near the subway/shooter lane vuk
