Im putting a CPR whirlwind playfield together right now. I have noticed that most of the dimples under the playfield are worthless, I've been using a lot of trace paper and the old playfield to position things so they work properly. Is this anyone else's experience?

Quoted from mollyspub:

is this common with CPR playfields ?

Not sure, this is my first one. Its always good to check but some of these are just terrible. That being said the playfield is beautiful and its more of an inconvenience than anything.

Im thinking about 3d printing a template for the slingshots that will make positioning at least the arm perfectly pretty fool proof. If they are off even a little they will hit and dig into the playfield. I find it difficult to position the parts while they are just floating thats why I use the trace paper to at least put the parts in the same place relative to the playfield openings (Ramp lifter, saucer eject, slingshots, ball trough eject...) but admittedly i screwed up and used the dimples for one sling. I only mention how far they are off because I have done swaps on a NOS playfield from williams, two IPB's, a micro, two sterns and this one CPR and this is by a huge margin the worst one I have done. But I am only talking about the dimples, I can't say anything bad about the rest of the playfield. Just another learning experience and now that I have stopped relying on the dimples its been going great.
