Honey Thai Oilers rocked. Anaheim Stadium concerts rocked. Our area literally had tons and tons of hash, thai weed, sensimillia. There was great pot in the 60s and 70s. There just wasn't alot of great growers to supply our whole country back then. A drug lord in Sonora hired Nor Cal growers to grow full blown Indica. Insane weed. Some of it would sell quicker and for more money wholesale than Thai weed. I was told the guy made 600 million, and yet how many people even smoked it. Everyone I know will tell you its awesome because they experienced it. But others can't believe it. Great seeds, great soil and climate, with a great grower and your going to end up with fantastic outdoor weed. But we have indoor nowadays.

That is probably due to Ann Margret rolling around a tidal wave of baked beans coming out of the TV.

I guess the 100-200 ticket prices are the cost of Napster into pandora and Spotify. The music model has changed and the only way to buy a jumbo jet is to go on the road and tour. If they can’t sell albums they sell overpriced vip experiences of acts who’s average age is 74.

The 70's were good. I saw AC/DC, Blackfoot, and Mother's Finest in Knoxville for $7.50. You smoked what you could get. Some redbud, some gold, and dirtweed.

It’s not a “soundtrack” it’s an album. The movie was made 6 years later and his its own “soundtrack” which is interesting if you want to hear jack Nicholson sing but generally of lower quality than the 1969 album.

You are taking one brief song completely out of context. Tommy is meant to be listened to from front to back, not one song at a time out of order in between commercials for esurance on YouTube.

Your discovery of an all time rock classic album that literally everybody but you knows about already is cute, but also kind of silly considering how famous and seminal the album is. No hyperbole it’s one of the most famous rock albums of all time, it’s not some cult classic nobody has ever heard of.

It’s charming that you think it’s “bizarre” but doesn’t seem like you are even attempting to take it seriously.

I saw these guys at Hollywood Casino in St Louis.My son got vip tickets and all the perks.It was a blast and honestly never would have paid to see them .They came full force with a great orchestra back up,probably 75 members.
It was a unexpected wonderful experience Rock On!

Personal opinion on some early rock albums/bands/movies for our young one:

1) The Who was a great band, Tommy was a meh movie but good album, you should listen to much Who
2) The Beatles was a great band, Sgt Pepper was a meh movie but great album, you should listen to much Beatles
3) Pink Floyd was a great band, The Wall was a kinda ok movie and is a great album, and you should listen to much Floyd

If you want to know what everyone was smoking, listen to the original 1969 Woodstock album and catch some of that footage.

In the Cinedome, they installed a huge speaker system that you could hear all the way to the street just for this movie.

Perhaps he had used this album cover to roll some doobies on.

so as a guy that did smoke in the 70's (mostly mexican, we could get a 4 finger lid for 10 bucks back then) - I relate this little story that I (surprisingly, considering) remember quite well.

One of our go-to's were what we called Sherman sticks - they were really cheap, even for back then, I think they were 50 cents? (I could get a hit of dragon blotter - for those that know what that is - for 2 bucks). They were basically some sort of english cigarette - I think in brown paper? and they had this weird chemical smell to them - but man, you took one or two hits of that thing, boom with a capital B - you (or at least I) was sitting down for a couple of hours. Now this from a guy that's done peyote, mushrooms, blotter, microdot, etc. This stuff was bad. But none of us - at least that I know of - knew what it was.

So fast forward, 25 years or so, and I'm working advertising sales and I've got a customer that owns a funeral home - and he's showing me around the place (thats another story) and I smell something familiar - I'm trying to place it - and damn - sure enough it's that same chemical smell from the shermans we used to smoke. I tell him the connection, and he tells me it's formaldehyde - that he has to keep it locked up special because the druggies in the neighborhood try to steal it.

I remember back in the day they used to say we were killing brain cells with all the drugs we were using - turns out, we were actually preserving them.

Blotter acid (Mr. Natural), window pane, barrel acid, microdot, haze, there was a lot out there. Did them all at one time or another but, I was primarily a Quaalude guy. Two 714's, a good doobie and I was primed to play pinball or pool.

I knew all those guys - we even had coke every once in a while, but it was super expensive. One of the experiments we tried was crushing up a purple microdot and mixing it with coke and snorting it. I wouldn't recommend it.

We saw a lot of stuff from outside of Texas - sensimilla (sp?) from California, Columbian (from Columbia?), Maui Wowee - thai stick (which was awesome), hash - and the concert scene in San Antonio in the mid and late 70's was just fantastic. I saw everyone from Nugent to Aerosmith to Montrose to Boston to Tull - everyone of those and a lot more, all for about 5 bucks a ticket. Was a great time to be a young guy.

I lived through those days. There was a lot of marijuana around. I'm not sure of all the types and various names for it.

I never smoked anything (cigarettes or otherwise) and never took any drugs. And never will. If I was hanging out with some of my car guy friends and one of them pulled out some marijuana I just said my goodbyes and left. I never lectured any of them about the evils of drugs. It just wasn't for me. And still isn't.

Back then I had a '69 SS396 Chevelle and my '64 Fender Stratocaster. Was a great time to be a young guy. (I still have the Strat.)

Ha, ha. My friend and I talked his mom into bringing us to see the Exorcist. Well we thought since it was rated R we thought...you know. We were 16 and Catholic. Boy...Big Mistake. Ha ha ha. Seeing that movie on a huge screen with the volume turned up to 11(see Spinal Tap) scared the living Beegeebee's out of us. I couldn't watch ANY movie that had "Devil, Evil, etc." for years. Funny thing, a few years later I'm out in California visiting my dad for the summer and one early morning I was in that half awake half dream state when the bed started moving and I thought I was being possessed. I couldn't move and was scared s&%#less. Then I fell back to sleep. When I got up later for breakfast my dad says to me, hey did you feel that earthquake this morning? Too funny how the brain works.

I was just back from Nam in 73 when they started!! I lived 3 blocks away from the coliseum on 66th ave!! Saw every concert on the Green!!
