I did read your blog. My plan is a bit simpler as I am only supporting a USB serial connection to a PC/RPi etc.
I just tried out my WPC USB printer interface board. It appears to be working!!! It connects to a PC/MAC/RPi as a usb serial port at 9600 baud. Below is the captured output from TeraTerm:

Yes by board has everything needed. But its output is a usb cable that when plugged into a PC/MAC/RPi it acts like a serial port connection. It is not possible to plug this board into an RS-232 serial printer.

Hmm. How do you initiate a printout in attract mode when using a parallel printer?
OK I've switched to the serial interface of my board. I can successfully print from the printer menu. But I can't seem to initiate a print during attract mode by pressing <CR> in the terminal. Can someone run a couple of tests for me?
printer settings:
serial, 9600, pause every page=no, dtr=ignore, auto-print=all data,
When you press enter on the terminal during attract, when does the data start printing?

I have a working prototype of my USB WPC printer board. I wanted to see if there is enough interest in doing a run of these boards. Price would be $79 plus tax (CA only), shipping, and paypal fees.
The board plugs into the dot matrix controller. It has a micro usb cable that when plugged in to a PC/MAC looks like a FTDI232 serial port.

I have now determined that #1 is not correct. If you enable "auto-print" in the printer settings, then if you open the coin door and enter the service menu, you can press "Carriage Return" to start the printout without having to navigate into the print menu. But as far as I can tell, "Carriage Return" does not initiate a printout during attract.

The boards are finally here!
Price is $79 + $2(paypal fee) + $7.95(USPS priority small box) + (CA tax, if applicable). I've only tested it in my TZ and STTNG, but it should work in any of the WPC pinballs that supported the original WPC Printer Board (16-9464). Install requires the attachment of one wire to the +5V supply. All other connections come through the ribbon cable.
I built 20 of them and about half are spoken for. So there are about 10 available for the folks not already accounted for on this thread... If there is enough demand, I will do a second run.
